  • This week, I finally landed a position as an ICU RN, my dream job! Although I took the longer route to get there, the grind was well worth it!!! ICU was always the goal coming out of nursing school, but without experience it is very difficult to land a job there right away. This is how I did it.
If anyone has tips for a morning person on how to transition to a night shift schedule, please leave a comment below or send me a message via Instagram @cmoneyrn Any advice is appreciated 🙏🏽 Who knows? I might just share your feedback in a future video...

Hey there, I just found your channel, new sub here! Congrats on your new position, How have you been liking it? How's orientation? Any good ICU learning lessons so far? I have been a nurse for 1yr I did 6 months on cardiac IMC, then went straight into thre cath lab. I don't think i could ever go back to the floor, the lab is too much fun!
My tips for night shift: black out blinds AND black out curtains, a fan, a white noise machine, valerian root tea and melatonin, ear plugs, really good temperature regulation and a do not disturb sign if your living with other people Haha!

NewbieRN thank you so much for the night shift advice! I still got to orient to the floor so I’ll be starting on days for a bit. Orientation has been pretty good so far. Currently going over chest tubes and ekgs in ICU class. That’s awesome that you got to go straight to cath lab from imc. I transferred out of a cardiac imc and got to experience pulling lines (a little taste of cath lab experience). Appreciate you subscribing to the channel 🙏🏽

Best of luck to your position in the ICU! I just worked my last night shift in the ICU, I will be moving to days this upcoming week.
My tips would be make your room as dark as possible and use a white noise machine or even a fan to block the noise outside. Drink water on your shift. I found matcha to be a better source of caffeine over coffee.

Great tip Angelica! Will definitely look into darkening the room more and investing in a white noise machine. Also, how long did you have to work nights before switching to days?

CMoneyRN I was hired as a new grad on June 2019 orienting on days, I went to night shift around September 2019 (I’ve been on nights since then). If you have anymore questions let me know! :)
