The picture of the "East Beast" is obviously the Jersey Devil, the most iconic east coast monster! 😈👹 Can't beat the price on this thing either, considering what you get for it! :-)
While I can hear the sv-1b influence, this synth is definitely "Smoother." I really like my sv-1b so to everyone on the fence about using this synth as a launch pad, I think you could do way worse.
Can I do anything significant with the patchbays of the EB/WP as stand-alone instruments? Or are the patch jacks simply for connecting with other gear?
Hi Dino Goldie. Amazing sonic variations can be had just by patching cables from the East Beast to itself. Making new connections breaks their default connection, allowing you to basically rewire both the audio and the control paths. Of course, connecting the East Beast with other Eurorack modules takes it even farther. -_Daniel_
Picked one of these up last night and for what little time I had to spend with it - It seems really cool and sounds great. I have it patched to my Crave to explore around with for a few days (to start with) One question that I have regarding this video - When you’re playing the seq/arp with the Keystep, I assume this works because you’re using the internal clock/seq of the EB. My Keystep gets clock from a DB Impact via sync > EB via Midi. If I were to clock in to the EB from the DBI and then clock out to the KS would I be able to use the EB seq the way it was meant? I’ll experiment later but maybe I’m off base all together and missing something simple.
Why doesn’t Pittsburg Modular release the Voltage Lab with the case etc as a standard product. Ppl would buy it It was kick starter only If u find one ppl want $2200 or more for them .. but they then go make stuff like this I guess more ppl willing to pay for some mood mother 32 sorta thing that’s much less expensive than a somewhat esoteric modular
The Voltage Lab 2 will be out along with some other really great Pittsburgh Modular instruments. The East Beast is the first in series with Cre8 along with the Pittsburgh stuff. These things take time along with the realities of production these days. Trust, it'll be worth the wait.
I am waiting for a Voltage Lab as well. Word on a street is a version 2 is on its way, hopefully sometime this year. I think the chip shortage has been kicking everyone's butt in the modular world.
Well I bought the East Beast. And I have a Keystep 37. And I've been through both manuals trying to figure out why nothing happens when I connect the Keystep's midi out to the East Beast's midi in. The only thing I seem to be able to contrrol is the clock. that works (keystep clock driving East Beast clock) but press a key...nothing. I don't know if other people are having the same problem but it's making me rethink whether I want to spend money on the West Pest now....
Hi there. I am using exactly the same combination: Keystep Pro with East Beast via Midi. I have the following problem: East Beast plays only very high pitched notes. With Keystep Pro I can transpose it down only two octaves, which means, it turns up to be in the midle-range. But I can't play the really deep notes. What is the mistake I am doing? I couldn't find any settings which allows me to adjust. Thanks for help
I'm looking to try semi modular. My top are this, the West Pest, the crave and Cr8audio's Nifty bundle. I'm broke, I'm cheap, $300 is my budget I want it to be a learning tool and to see if I want to go further into semi/modular. If anyone has any insight or advice it would be greatly appreciated. It's got to have some sort of sequencer, really prefer analog and hate using a computer/DAW. I have a Korg Volca Sample2, a Behringer VS pro mini, a couple of Monotrons and an Akai MPK mini play, and a long time ago had a Volca keys. Thanks!
If I were to buy an EB/WP as a gateway into the modular money pit, what would be the next step? What would be the next two or three modules to add to either an EB or WP?
I am totally not interested in modular. I am totally not interested in modular. I am not interested in modular. I am not interested in ... What does this thing cost?...
Hi TheGreatPanicker. I'd connect the audio output of the East Beast to the audio input of the guitar pedal. Just be sure to keep the volume of the synth below 75% to prevent clipping. (Pedals vary, so use your ears to check for unwanted distortion.) -_Daniel_
Anyone use this with a Keystep Pro? Having tuning issues - mainly I'm having to set the KSP max 2x octaves down to match middle C on my other synths and turn the fine tune on the EB all the way to the right which is the closest I can get to C. Then I have tune my other synths to the EB. Any advice?
I wonder what Cre8audio really is, it's always the same dudes from Pittsburg Modular who's presenting and selling the Cre8audio stuff. Is it the same company but with a different logo? And why do they do it like that? Is it like the budget version of Pittsburghs ideas?
Hi T. Alfred Dahlen. Cre8audio and Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers are two different companies, but they have been partnering to share resources. You can expect a lot more products from the combined teams. -_Daniel_
I have a big problem with this machine and i hope someone can help me. The arpeggiator/sequencer section seems doesn't function when i try to activate it. When i use it as a keyboard (combination of green button E button) i can hear sounds while when i activate the combination a second time i cannot hear nothing. The same if i activate the arpeggiator with (green button and E button) in all the combinations i cannot hear nothing. I don't know what to do cause i cannot use it as it is.
Hi dmorris909. The East Beast is a Eurorack module that can interface with any other module that follows the Eurorack standards (such as the Behringer Neutron). Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
I always enjoy a Daniel Fisher synth demo, his job seems so fun 😅 This thing looks so cool! I'm quite impressed with the price too
10:11 What a pleasant collaborative moment. Great demo, probably the best I have seen on the product so far.
Everytime I watch the bit where big D is saying the beast is wearing pants it cracks me up
Nice to see Keir Starmer doing something worthwhile for a change .

Might of found another piece for the ever growing synth collection
Oh my goodness great sounds coming out of that tiny box !
I picked up the east beast and it's awesome. I'm definitely going to grab the west pest.

Love your work richard....
It sounds absolutely tremendous!
Love the sound and Graphics
This thing sounds really nice.
Very good idiosyncratic acid sounds
Looking forward to it! 👍
Great vid! Thank you!
I'm interested!!!
concept idea - limited run version called "he appears to be wearing pants"

Love it instantly
Has anybody tried cramming the EB and WP together into the Nifty case?
Sounds good. An integrated delay would make it very good
Thanks !!!

Still trying to figure out mine it's been over a year is there a trick to this? Practice and patience I imagine
Sorry if it was mentioned and I didn’t hear, but when does this thing ship?
So I assume you could have two of these in a NiftyCase? What else would be needed? A mixer module and that's pretty much it?
Hi Elvis. A simple mixer would work just fine. -_Daniel_

Jason Newsted has a very cool synth 👍 👍
New to electronic music, so where is the cable coming from the output of the device going? Just a speaker?
You need an audio interface

Patching the Keystep's pitch out to the East Beast's pitch in does nothing either by the way. Do I have a defective East Beast?

Hold the “tap tempo” button and tap oct +/- to shift octaves
Release the beast or release the pest?

Good demo, but the synth volume seems quite low compared to the voices, which is nothing doing the East Beast any favours
Is this good device when you already own a mv-1 verselab and novation 49sl mk3 usb controller?
More is better
How would you connect a guitar effects pedal to this?
Hi TheGreatPanicker. I'd connect the audio output of the East Beast to the audio input of the guitar pedal. Just be sure to keep the volume of the synth below 75% to prevent clipping. (Pedals vary, so use your ears to check for unwanted distortion.) -_Daniel_

A full resistor capacitor chip. Sounds very technical lol

I would
Love these little boxes to have had usb midi for use with a daw.
