As ever, thanks for focusing on the mistakes and fixes, that's where the real learning comes from. Hope you can do some close up shots of those points when it's finished to show how well it blends when it's all painted.
I've always spent way too long refining spots that are going to be hidden or painted over anyway.

If you ever do another one, for marking out for the rear door handle, cover the handle in masking tape and paint it with a bit of whatever paint you've got kicking about, then stick the panel onto the door so you print the shape of the handle onto it. I did this when I ply lined my last van and it worked fairly well

Chuffed you found the scribing and templates difficult and the results still weren’t perfect- very honest. ( they are all bloomin time consuming!)There isn’t a straight or plumb line anywhere on a camper.
I’m nowhere near as experienced as you guys nor do I have as much kit but i found a cardboard template then a hardboard intermediate template of the same shape made a big difference when I did my transit lining didn’t seem like overkill at all, and there was lots of adjustment in the hardboard!
Great content - thanks for the great range of projects 👍🏻

i know how you feel on the scribing, cutting and repeat front as ive just covered my stair case in oak. looks good but has taken an age to do. when using cardboard to template stuff i find using that brown cardboard does not work very well but if you use it to fill in the bulk of the panel and then use thinner cardboard (cereal boxes etc) around the edges it works much better

  • @TomsTimmervan

very nicely done, making my van was a bit more work than making cabins, sheds etc. and not because it is more wood, its just scribing roughly, scribing detail etc. For the level problem, I always dit put a block underneath my level to get it straight and have the underside of the block as a marking point when it is truely level. thanks for sharing the process

Coming on nice bud. It's not easy and can be time consuming this sort of panelling. Not done a van but a fair few boats which present similar issues. If you have a laser level where you can lock off the self levelling pendulum, it'll help a fair bit lining things up plum to the floor.

Resourceful, as always! I believe your templating woes were due to using knackered old cardboard boxes! Fresh sheets (from a packaging supplier) or, sometimes, kraft paper from a roll, make life easier. Doors, especially, are easiest using thick clear plastic sheeting so you can see exactly where handles/holes are underneath it and mark them with a sharpie.
