My dad loved this music. Every time I listen to this song it gives me chills and make me miss my dad so much 🥺
Your dad had great taste in music, for sure
😔😔😔
i am the dad I hope my daughters will tell this story about me....
😞
I bought this cassette when I was a junior in high school. I'm still listening to it. I have the cd in my car now and I've been listening for about a month now over and over. Makes me slip away even if for a moment from all the garbage in the world now. Great song.
Amazing 👏👏👏
yeah same its a nice collection and good for road trips.
First CD I ever bought in 9th grade OVER 30 years ago!!! Still have it, still amazing!!👏
Lucky son of a gun, you grew up when bands had to have talent.
40 years and many versions later just found this think it could be the best!!
I was in high school when this was released. It took a while for me to get the sax lines, but it was worth it. I won the talent show playing this song.

Wow! This is amazing. Thank you for sharing
Awesome.
Well done.
My old man used to play Direstraits to me as an infant. Always a comfort, i now play ‘Your Latest Trick’ followed by ‘Why Worry?’ and numerous others to my son born on New Year’s Day. Knopfler is a genius.
The first 1:23 is the best intro I’ve ever heard, that piano is phenomenal, it brings tears to my eyes 🥲
Not to mention the Sax, pure genius!
@@slmscgshe's gone from metroland
Absolutely brilliant saxophone. Sure he was holding in a smile when the audience picked up on the tune at 1:30
It is not the best sax ever played in this tune.......
@@Samuriele Maybe not but as the last person said it is absolutely brilliant. Up there with the best in my opinion.
Youre right, but what is the name of him
It still stands… best sax ever 🤘🏻
Yes he was smir!
25 years ago, since listening to this masterpiece started my love to Dire Straits
Mine started when i was listening to a random rock playlost on spotify, and then it started, Sultans of Swing and a this point i feld in love with their song...
@@moritzhillegaart1270 Nevertheless, Dire Straits comes and stays for ever inside you.
Doesn't get any better than this. And the pure joy in their eyes, playing together. Worldclass 👌
This ladies and gentlemen, was called music, played with real instruments by gifted musicians, who would have thunk it.
Charles Middleton dude relax I love this kind of music but it still takes talent to make modern music and rap
@@Charlie-le7xg how ? The modern music and electric shit o it requires you to pick one beat and then repeat for few minutes until you get bored. This music require you to compose melody, meaningful lyrics and much more. Show me one artist who can play live as good as Mark does. And keep the audience interested.
Nah, singers, dancers, rappers; they're the "Artists"! I'm not sure what these people playing instruments do; some kinda technical thing isn't it. They're kinda like Plumbers aren't they?
Nimesh Sompura try and rap it’s harder than you think
@@Charlie-le7xg not harder than this. Show me one rap which lasts 13 to 14 mins like in case of MK there is telegraph road, sultan's of swing. Of course both are different genres but to keep an audience interested for as long as 14 mins takes skills, story, great melody, emotions. Very many dimensions attached to it.
And I believe most rappers are focused to show of their chops rather than creating something meaningful. Exceptions are there too, of course. But have you ever seen MK playing or singing like severely constipated? Or David Gilmore. Although they are modern time Mozarts. If you don't mind the comparison.
I came back searching for this song after several years, because the sax part of this song has been playing in an endless loop in my brain for more than a week.
Fortunately, i like this song. What’s annoying is if the song on loop in your brain is something you don’t like.
That man blowing that horn is just pouring out pure love and I am deeply touched by him and Sir Knopfler
Não tem pra ninguém!! Melhor músico do planeta!?!
The most beautiful version of this song! Love it so much.
The bass line is amazing too.
I used to love this song as a kid, but never knew it was by the one and only Mark Knopfler. It's so refined, classy and smooth. My respect for this guy only keeps increasing. And it's already superfluous as it is.
Watch Knopfler smile and enjoy the sax playing…. A real star.
I grew up with Nigel.. he's in another postcode from the next best sax player..and has been since he was a teenager..Mark knows where to go when you need the fastest gun not for hire.. 😉✌️❤️
I'm 25 years old. Dire Straits is one of my favorite bands out there. This song just fills my void.
The best rendition of this song by Mark Knopfler that I've ever heard. What an incredible musician.
Music so lovely it'll make you cry.
And I love the way Mark loves his fine sax man's soul.
Fine fine music indeed.
Look at the genuine joy on the Sax player's face. Great. What a song, what a tune
Exelente 👏👏👏👏👏 eso es muy muy hermoso 😍
Many people do not realise, Latest Trick and Planet of New Orleans are two of the best masterpieces in this world that Dire Straits created. So underrated.
My husband is a die hard fan of Dire straits. He even stole a cassette from one of his school friends (their 1991 album ) due to Heavy Fuel’s kick and shows with pride till date.
I wish Dire straits be timeless Angel in the history books of music for eternity.
Telegraph road is also one of those bad ass songs.
Amazing, touching, laid back saxophon playing. so great :) I can't hear often enough Love it!!
The great Mr.Knopfler forever in our hearts! Long life to the master
Everything here is flabbergasting. Ive been always amazed by this song. Best ever!
I'm 17 and I wish I knew someone that likes this type of music as much as I do. Most people call it "old people music" but music is timeless.
I was there...best performance I've ever seen live
Que envidia ...de la sana eh , saludos!
Nigel Hitchcock on saxophone is an absolute genius 😎🤘
Thanks for identifying him.
He's definitely world class on it.
Nigel Hitchcock is the saxophone player. He is great!
Adilson Leme Michael Brecker was the saxophone player in the original and this man sounds just like him.
He is better than great
Credit may be to N H mate but the whole package doesn't feel a synchronised, there's something about it, it sounds all over the place...it's bloody "insolence" to us fans and even worse to those mobile crowd, still....
He's the best, ever!!!
He sure is
Mark has retired now.Have a good rest and thank you for all the years you dedicated to your music. You brought joy into millions of people who love you very much.💖
Still recording, retired from touring.
He just released an album in Feb. 2024. However, it might be the last one
When I was touring the the country with my Drum Corp. This was my every night song. Had to listen to it before going to sleep. Over 30 years ago and still loving it.
I have seen sir Mark Knopfler this year in A’dam and Budapest and thank god he is still the best on this planet 🎸🎸👌🎷
Honestly I'd forgotten how much I loved this tune.
Linda.
absolutely THE BEST ART for many generations ! unbelievable that some songs of GREAT ARTISTS never die and what is more they INSPIRE NEW GENERATIONS and are EVER GREEN :-) - full respect to Mr. Mark Knopler ! :-)!

Always mate, this was the first CD back in the day. one of the first I bought a few years later when I could buy them. The saxophone is great on this to.
Conseguiu fazer inclusive Uma obra prima para Romeo and Juliet que é talvez superior a Your Latest Trick
@@leocmen Concordo... Chris White q me inspirou a tocar Sax.
It's Nigel Hitchkock
AMAZING SONG, Mark the best, Saudações fron 🇧🇷
Absolute perfection - that sax = goosebumps 👏👏👏👌
Wonderful performance ! ! ! From Milan, Italy.
Lovely saxophone, and Knopfler giving such emotion in his guitar and crude vocal...
espectacular! me encanta! nunca me canso...
isabela ciurcea O mais incrível é o Sax. Lindo demais
What an amazing, amazing tune. 46 yrs old, and have loved it since the 1st time I heard it.
A voice that never changed, beautiful combination 🎷❤️
Mark Knopfler --- The Best --- Thanks 4 Sharing!
Merci pour votre bonheur
I grew up on your songs, and it's always great fun to hear them♥️
In 500 years people will be analyzing Mark Knopfler, What a genius, What a gift!
Paddy, we don't need 500 years, he is already recognised as a genius today. ❤️
This IS music!!!!
my god what a song, ive heard it a lots of times and is the same feeling that i feel every time , the best song
Just amazing. And the quality of the vídeo is really very good.. I love Mark, he's the greatest ever. So many years on this top level, always the same, incredible.
I listened to this masterpiece every evening last December lying at „my beach“ on a beautiful island in Thailand. Wish I only could be there this December again 😢😢 Not being able to get there during these times makes me so sad 😢
update: I am back at my beach and listening again! 😀🤘🏼
My favorite sax tune within a great song. Thank you Mark Knopfler for your wonderful music.
Yes!
Wooww I used to listen to this song cause my parents love Dire Straits but this is amazing!!
agree with you..
Yeah, I remember when "Sultans of Swing" hit the airwaves back in '77 or '78. Those were the days and that was the music! Modern music, especially "gangsta rap" and "pop" music hardly qualify as music. My own children even say that they preferred the music of my era (60's-90's), than the "junk" being released after that, I have two girls born in 83 and 84 who absolutely detested "boy bands" but loved going with their mother and me to a good Def Lepperd or Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Rush or REO Speedwagon concert! Oh hell yeah, we raised our three kids right!
Oh YEAHHH. Great version of an awesome song. Sax player meets the challenge of playing with Knopfler. What a fantastic performance!!!
Wonderful music like this, wonderful musicianship like this, never age.
That sax sound just melts the soul. Blessed to have played one
Mark Knopfler was my dad's favorite singer. I listen to his music and remember my dad
For anyone wondering, the intro is a rendition of Mark’s “She’s Gone”
Man,,,, I got to tell you. When I die, this song still will be with me.
Mark Knopfler , I've been listening to U since my childhood in Russia . Although I ain't fond of romantic lyrics but the MUSIC U create comes from the very Cosmos indeed !!!! It's really awesome . Thanks a lot !
Im proud to say that I lived the end of an era, where in the middle of the night at any party or club there was a break from the current dance hits and something amazing would happen where boys would face girls and the DJ would only play slow and romantic songs to dance together really close tight
Those were the moments where relationships would begin or not but regardless, were magical
This song was by far the record breaking most played song to make out of a generation...
This song always gives me bliss. A masterpiece!!!
The solo of this song always reminds me a beautiful woman.
Me 2

Me Too. The one that got away...
Thomas Heaven Condoleezza Rice?
Especially a lady with long curly hair and dressed a jacket and skirt and also hills. But it is just a imaginary for me but no one on my mind...

Wonderful saxophone solo, nice guitar playing and great music.
♥️💃👍🏻
Never heard better saxophone, really dialed in sound.
I listen and cry. Thanks for the memories.
Great song and an even great saxo performance. Long live DS!!!
Thanks to my dad for playing Dire Straits when I was a kid. Got two kids myself now and make sure they hear Mark atleast once a day!
Wow! That Nigel Hitchcock is Golden on sax! What a great solo! Fabulous interpretation! And the tonal twist on the lead-in to the refrain at 4:45 was also a nice touch. Top-drawer work, man! Really nice stuff!
This honestly gives me chills. Absolutely incredible.
Sorry for my english.. Im 27 years old now, when i was younger bout 6 years old, till 15 in my dads car allways sounds Queen, Supertramp and Dire Straits, the album Brothers in arms i did listen so often, now i also have Kids, my oldest daughter is 7 years old and her Daddy also listen to that album, my favourit album ever..
1988, 2 AM studying for the university exam that will define the rest of your life, the fatigue lurks... And this sax plays on the radio.
Pure fuel. A few days ago I read someone who made fun of Knofler and Dire Straits, poor idiot I thought, he was not touched by this experience.
Thank you so much for this video. My favorite Dire Strait song! Saludos from Brazil!
Thanks for all your wonderful work
Sensacional! Apreciem!
That was the best sax I've ever had.
Phenomenal job by Nigel Hitchcock on Tenor sax (not Chris White), playing Michael Breakers’s original lines, plus his own soloing.
Michael Brecker* not Breaker.
The sax is alto....
@@lesliebetts4607 that's a tenor sax
2019 who's still enjoying it ?
here and now :)
people wl still be listening to these in 2029. these are timeless. back when music meant something

i will forever regret not taking my father to this back in september of 2015. I hope he tours again and hits kansas city sometime in the future, as well as David Gilmour!
Mark Knopfler and David Gilmour...nothing can be more beautiful...they are extra-terrestrial...

I listen this from college days. Never bored. Mark dominate in my music library
*swoon* one of the most iconic sax intros. Such an awesome song!
Congratulations to the saxophonist accompanying Mark Knopfler, a beautiful interpretation in the introduction, too much showww, I here in Brazil listening to a beautiful rarity of this, as a saxophonist I liked a lot
Knopflers control of dynamics and projection here is insane, seriously!
I do not get tired of looking at it. simply great!
