TutCast you're the best! I remember when you first started with these tuts... I'm one of your very first subscribers =) All the best for you man and thatnks again!
@IceflowStudios I agree that the tool works incredibly well, I just thought a picture that had some harder areas would be helpful for those who do not have pictures taken on a white background. Thanks again, these videos are definitely helpful.
wow this video just made my day... or wait it just made my week a day.. i have about 200+ images to do. GO Adobe! Now where what that keygen... ah there it is
@tashtan1 True, I was just commenting that since tutvid is bigger, it's nice for Howard to come up with reviews about CS5 before tutvid. It's a nice first look for some of us that can't afford CS5 yet.
Refine edge works very well on a plain background (which is what most of the tutorials on RUclips use), but it is MUCH more difficult to use when there is a lot going on in the background. Decontaminate colors works to some degree, but this tool is not as amazing as it is usually portrayed. Don't get me wrong - it still saves time over the tedious old method, but it is not a 2 minute fix by any means.
@itsonlydesign I think I'm looking more at the big picture. There is still a defined black and white between those who are good at it and those who are not. What I'm looking at is the work that people do. People can do the same work as a professional editor (with learning experience and practice) from home. It can be looked at from two angles. It helps those who don't really know how to do it, but on the other hand it could be said that it dumbs down those who do put in that extra effort.
How well does this work on a model over a regular background though? Sometimes one of the most annoying things is differentiating color from fuzz or hair strands. Will this still work well if say it was a person in the city in front of a building or on the beach. Or is it only optimized for shooting with a flat backdrop?
I feel like this picture is a bad example of its usage only because it is on a white background all ready, so picking up colors to select is just about as easy as it can be. I think you should use a more realistic image that you would use this on because that way it actually challenges the tool's capabilities. Thank you for these videos by the way!
@JumbaChick85 Exactly right, making customs masks of fur/hair is an absolute pain. I doubt this will replace them for backgrounds other than solid colours though.
using Photoshop's refine edge you are getting once in a a while big blemishes on the hair that can't be removed with that tool do you have a way to remove those stains?
@heymynameisben Probably. Yet still, this is a very impressive feature. Though I wonder why Adobe didn't just include this in the way-back-then versions -- the algorithm is fairly trivial.
@jbkrule I will do another video with a "busy" background. This feature works well in either case.
Thanks for sharing the videos and teaching us that great features that PhotoShop CS5 has.

@tashtan1 True, I was just commenting that since tutvid is bigger, it's nice for Howard to come up with reviews about CS5 before tutvid. It's a nice first look for some of us that can't afford CS5 yet.
OK that is it, I am uprading now dam that new version is nice!!
YES MORE TUTORS :D

wow, I totally need CS5
Epic. Thanks.
Does this work if the background isn't white/block colour?
Love your tutorials BTW ^___^ I recommend them to my friends in my photography class.

good job
looks awesome! Shame i can't afford CS5 at the moment :(

pretty awesome :D
thankz a lot bro!!
Nice!
Wowaweewa!
in that case, select manually as accuratly u can. Then in Smart radius, increase around 15-20 only.
Awesome!! =D
@ThomsenEditor It works on normal edges too, you just have to put more time into it and create a more accurate selection from the start.
@1mycoolpen
It's photoshop cs5 because it has the extra two view mode in refine edge mode.
As always with these tutorials, they use the best possible scenario image to cut out.
Thanks a lot! :)
I NEED!
Very Gud Working
i gotta download this :-D
i have cs4
Finally !!!
@LeonvanDelden you can easily add a white background.
I feel like this picture is a bad example of its usage only because it is on a white background all ready, so picking up colors to select is just about as easy as it can be. I think you should use a more realistic image that you would use this on because that way it actually challenges the tool's capabilities. Thank you for these videos by the way!
I want to see this tool extract an image like the one you're working with out of a solid coloured background, and then put into a white background.
CS5 is here already?! damn
@IceflowStudios When will you do this?
@JumbaChick85 Exactly right, making customs masks of fur/hair is an absolute pain. I doubt this will replace them for backgrounds other than solid colours though.
hot model :D!
using Photoshop's refine edge you are getting once in a a while big blemishes on the hair that can't be removed with that tool do you have a way to remove those stains?
@heymynameisben Probably. Yet still, this is a very impressive feature. Though I wonder why Adobe didn't just include this in the way-back-then versions -- the algorithm is fairly trivial.
I have a question. When i use the smart radius brush I get a smudge on my subject instead of it refining. Am i missing something?
Very Nice :)
