Excellent tutorial! You're so right, they don't explain what you need to do to make it work correctly. They just sell you their product. Thanks for taking the time to show your work!!! Much appreciated!🙏☝️😁
I try to snap it into the metal track but the track and the part that is supposed to go into the track seem to be the same size. I took scrap pieces, and they are indeed, the same. So every time I go to push down to install the transition strip ,it will not go into the metal track and breaks!! What am I doing wrong? The track had been installed at the correct height. HOW do you get the thing into the track???
Just installed the same molding and screwed down on to concrete floor. I used hammer drill and a 3/16 concrete drill bit. Drilled the hole just deep enough too put a plastic wall molly in. Cut the flange off the Molly so it won't stick up above the concrete. Used a number 6 screw 1 inch long. Worked really well and is strong. Cut 45s at the corners cause it was around the fire place. Cut the vinyl on a chop saw. Cut was easy just take your time bringing the saw blade down. The tricky part was cutting the front piece across. Had have a mitre cut on both ends. I cut that first so if I screwed it up I still could use it for a side piece which was shorter. Take your time and it will come out great.
Thanks for the video, I have almost the same configuration coming out of my family room towards the tile in the foyer so this was a great explanation of what to do. The tile is up just a little higher than the LVP will be from the family room. Funny, my tile in the foyer is almost identical to your tile and also going with a gray wood grain LVP. Once again, thanks!
I'll give you a thumbs up because I'm doing the transition strip now and I'm wondering why mine isn't snapping into place then you got to the part talking about t-mold and j-mold and just noticed I don't have the T... but my floor is the same level. So thumbs up to you bud
Thank you. Nothing I ever read said anything about the rail having to be level with anything so this is helpful. I assume the same concept applies when going from higher vinyl plank to sheet vinyl? I only have one doorway that will require a transition strip like this (because I don't care about the transition in the closet), so hopefully it will not be too difficult to install. The matching trim for my flooring is no longer available so I'm wondering if you can recommend any good brands. I may just try to go with something that is in between the sheet vinyl's tile look and the viyl plank's "mahogany".
So we have two different level floors and are installing the reducer, but how do you handle the quarter round being at two different levels on either side of the reducer? Do we install the two different levels of quarter round touching and the cut the reducer to fit?
Just got a trim and found out that I need to raise the track as well. thanks for the tutorial, Zamma the company that sells this product should really have a more throughrough instructions instead of just selling such expensive products.
Do the heads of standard flat heads ever interfere with the transition. from being tapped in? Also, what screws did you use for a galvanized track. I don't want them to corrode
Question, I just had new vinyl installed over cement, and the transitions to tile all came up. The glue that was used didn't hold. Is there some other way to attach? Sucks having people come over, and the stupid things aren't staying in place. Maybe just for a short term I can fix them for the time being.
Honestly I think it’s only made to be used one time when you snap it in you don’t pull them back out I wish the engineers would’ve made a better product but it does work if it’s used one time only
What is that metal piece though? The transition pieces are easy enough to find online, but the name of the metal strip isn't named. Does it come with the reducer piece or do you buy seperately?
What is the metal piece called we bought a house that has double sided sticky pads holding down the transiton and that doesn't work so I would need metal track but idk what it's name is lol thanks in advance god bless
I’m sorry I’ve never seen them sold separately because all transition strips have different types of engineering me to grab the top piece there are many different kinds Possibly take your transition strip and go to the hardware store in the flooring section and ask that would be my best bet because I tried to search Google and couldn’t come up with anything for you hope this helps
9/16 or 3/4 " "Quarter Round" molding - install it between baseboard and plank flooring...attach them to the baseboard with brad nails...do not attach it to the planks....it just rests on the plank flooring.
I had my LifeProof flooring installed by a company and they did a HORRIBLE job on the reducers installation and quarter round replacement. I am trying to snap in the reducer strip into the metal track, but it doesn't seem to work at all. There's only a milometer difference in height from the kitchen floor to the metal track. Any help in getting this in?
If you want a quick fix squirt liquid nails in the metal track only but put extra in the track so it bonds 2 to 3 days to dry because they needed to bring the metal track up higher so it can lock in
What is the height of the metal channel? I'm about to do an install and was wondering if I should take the plank up to the other floor, it is at a different height.
Liquid nails is inferior to any other construction adhesive, use literally anything else unless it's the better version of liquid nails, forget what it's called
Need some help here.... Have a 5/8 of an inch drop from my kitchen to the dining room where the Vinyl plank flooring has been laid ... Looking for a reduer molding.... Presently am considering reducing moulding model #0157123856. The drop on this molding is oly 7/16 of an inch... Is it possible to drop the moulding a littler further on the reducer side? Will the tabs sit properly into the u channel... Thought? Thanks
so you CAN you from plank to vinyl with a T-mold!!! this was the only video i saw doing this.....at my local HD there;s a transition piece in clearence for 11$ as opposed to a new "reducer" for 23$!!
Never use that cheap piece of metal track. Just glue it down. Guaranteed after a few months that will come loose. I install life proof and it’s transitions everyday and I always glue it down. Especially when you go to try and snap it into that track you hit it the wrong way that cheap stupid track bends. Save yourself time and glue it with cove base adhesive don’t walk on it for 4 days and it will never come up

Great video. You nailed it when you commented about a lack of info on how to do these transitions. Helpful!
Your welcome

Thank you so much! I've watched a lot of videos and none have explained this. Thank you again!
You’re welcome thanks a lot
Thank you. Been watching videos all day trying to find something installing vinyl up to existing tile that is higher.
You need a trim style called a reducer
Thank you for this video, yes it's true that no one shows how to do this part! Your video really helped us!
Thanks man, installed many. My first one like this. Same color. I didn’t think about bringing it up to the high side. Ty
I struggle every time to get the slots to snap in. I want to break the piece in half its so frustrating.
I feel the pain in this comment. Just went through the same and almost pulled my hair out. Stupid design
Use a rubber mallet to pop it in. Don't break it just beat it a little lol
Mine didn’t snap in at all… I had to actually cut it to get it in. 😮
I should have watched this before I don’t even have the metal piece. But I can’t cut the floor either
Excellent, exactly what we needed to see! Thanks for sharing, there are very few videos that explain this!
Kathy 👍

Hey Do it yourself, what kind of screws did you use for bracket?
Your explanations were better than the back of the box, I gotta say. Cheers.
Just what I was searching for...thanks for the education.
I love RUclips!! Thank You..GREAT JOB !!!

Do we install the two different levels of quarter round touching and the cut the reducer to fit?
You can also you glue in the track to keep it from making noise, those teeth on the molding tend to pop because plastic against the metal
Thanks. Several points helped me here when I installed it. Appreciate you making and sharing it.
Thank you! I tried putting the rail in the gap and it didn't click 😅
Just got a trim and found out that I need to raise the track as well. thanks for the tutorial, Zamma the company that sells this product should really have a more throughrough instructions instead of just selling such expensive products.
This video was extremely helpful. Thank you!!!!
Glad I watched your video, you answered all of the questions questions that I had!
Great video, these seem to be thicker vinyl. What about thinner sheet vinyl - what transition strip is best when you have two styles
You can try an item called pro bond it comes in a caulk tube it's made for gluing stuff to cement
Liquid nails has been my go to. Just my experience.
@@KooperSalmo question, what if my new vinyl flooring its like 1ft short ?
Can you please tell me where can I purchase the metallic railing? A link would help. Thanks.
The metallic u channel comes with the transition strips.
That was my question too!! I couldn't find just the metal track / railing for the transition strip!
Can you use it in a doorway that transition from flooring to carpet rooms?
Yes
How do you cut the metal and the vinyl separately?
Miter saw or angle grinder with thin metal cut off blade
Yea dude this video was fuckn awesome. I'll never do it the wrong way again.
kool
I keep on breaking the notches on the plastic part. did you spread the metal rail a little with like pliers?
Honestly I think it’s only made to be used one time when you snap it in you don’t pull them back out I wish the engineers would’ve made a better product but it does work if it’s used one time only
Great job at explaining. Thanks
Where can I get the transition piece that matches these floors I can’t find it anywhere?
This floor was made by life-proof called scratched stone I bought mine at Home Depot check there website
you have an Oss-Kill-a-ting tool?
Sounds like a very handy tool, where can I get one????
Thank you for the explanation, very clear and easy
What is that metal piece though? The transition pieces are easy enough to find online, but the name of the metal strip isn't named. Does it come with the reducer piece or do you buy seperately?
It comes with. At least mine from Home Depot did and I assume they all do.
That was my question too! I couldn't find just the metal track / railing for the transition piece. Where did you purchase it?
What kind of screws where used?
Galvanized three-quarter inch screws
What is the metal piece called we bought a house that has double sided sticky pads holding down the transiton and that doesn't work so I would need metal track but idk what it's name is lol thanks in advance god bless

Thanks for the info
How did you do the baseboards? Also, what can you use to fill gaps over 1/2 up against the walls and trim? Like caulking?
9/16 or 3/4 " "Quarter Round" molding - install it between baseboard and plank flooring...attach them to the baseboard with brad nails...do not attach it to the planks....it just rests on the plank flooring.
What he doesn’t say is the sometimes the metal won’t fit no matter what until you widened then it will fit
Thank you for that great tip!
How did you cut the metal piece to size? That's what I'm trying to figure out. A hand saw did not work.
You can use a angle grinder or a pair of nips or a hack saw
I had my LifeProof flooring installed by a company and they did a HORRIBLE job on the reducers installation and quarter round replacement. Very useful. Much appreciated.
man thank you for this video, I tried to use this transition strip before and end it up with a headache and throwing the da.. thing in the trash...
Nice! Thanks for this video now it makes sense
What is the height of the metal channel? I'm about to do an install and was wondering if I should take the plank up to the other floor, it is at a different height.
How'd you cut it?
LaKeesha Porter are use a chopsaw it cuts it perfectly
i have this but its still loose what type of glue do i use to make it nice and tight it gonna be bonding to tile
Liquid nails
Liquid nails is inferior to any other construction adhesive, use literally anything else unless it's the better version of liquid nails, forget what it's called
the only thing I would recommend to improve your video is at the beginning tell us what brand it is
Well done! Also, we love lifeproof flooring! Do you recall the name of that color?
Scratched stone
@@KooperSalmo thank you :)
@@KooperSalmo awesome! Thank you kindly 🙂
Great tip! I was wondering how I was going to raise the transition holder. Did you use plastic anchors in the concrete for the screws to hang on to?
Concrete screws, tapcons, they don’t need anchors
Excellent!! This is what I have
Thanks so much
4:09 Thanks for the lecture son 😋

Oskalating! All jokes aside...I have the Rockwell unit and they are way better with quick release for blades.
Thanks. Doing this soon.
I wish my transition piece went that smooth. The ones they sold me were plastic and of course.... the tab pieces broke. $120 down the drain
I'm having same problem tabs don't want to go in metal track
Thank you!
no savia como hacelo pero gracias a tu video lo pude hacer
thank u
