Kazakhstan's Aral Sea was once the world's fourth largest lake, a rich haven for fish, birds and other wildlife. It was also home to bustling fishing ports such as Aralsk. But starting in the 1960s, massive agricultural expansion saw much of the water from the two rivers that feed the lake diverted into thousands of canals to irrigate crops. This caused the Aral Sea to shrink by 70% and split into two.

Besides dams, they should make a concerted effort to plant trees in the region like Africa's sub-Saharan Green Wall. More trees, cooler temps, more moisture, more rainfall, besides the organic matter that is created for the soil. Glad to see that Kazakhstan at least is making an effort to revive its portion of the sea. Hopefully the international community will help come up with the remaining 150 million to extend the dam and help elevate the sea's levels even more.

In 1960 was the 4th largest lake in the world. I was born in 1985. On that year Aral Sea was still connected, as it concerns the north part and the south one. It is a shame that within 34 years the Aral Sea fell from being the 6th largest lake in the world, to what a remnant has been left today...

This is just the North Aral. The south aral is still drying up and will be dried up completely in just a few years, because Usbekistan does not change its ineffective, water-wasting, irresponsible irrigation system or does something to increase the water that comes to the lake.

It is pure geological character of the area will meet the solar radiation as this sort of impact in time. It will be hard indeed to renew that area. Irrigating could prevent it's accumulated ionised air but the flux of changes will still take lead in advance.

instead of running behind cotton crops they should have taken care of
the sea and should have taken the benefits from it, fishing and other
things would have helped them more than cotton crop, they should again
let the rivers flow towards the aral sea and let it come back to life..

    • @antred11
      @antred11 3 года назад

Definitely, yeah. Tourism, fishing, a recovering ecosystem with growing diversity and resilience; probably a moderating effect on the regional climate; all those and more would have been benefits to be had from prioritizing a recovery of the Aral Sea. Instead they chose short-term profits, so now most of the region will continue to descend into being a lifeless, toxic, unproductive desert.

Pure hemp textile is also good for light summer clothes. The only real issue is shrinkage in dryer which is a wastage of resources anyway.

There is a lesson to be learned here somehow, but I am Not sure exactly what that lesson is.... But a very interesting upload. So thanks people.
    Copulation, Population, Pollution ? ? !
Well, like the man Said, at least they're gonna get the NORTH Aral sea back.
And who knows, when all the ice sheets have melted they might, one day, have MORE than enough. Nothing lasts forever, but LOVE one another anyway. = )

The lesson I learned was said by one of the locals about how all of the planners were in Moscow, and they weren't interested in what we had to say.

I will tell you - the sea is dried, the reminiscent tinny portion of water extremely polluted, smelly and with foam on its surface.

The North Aral Sea is only partly refilled, as the announcer said, "the North Aral is 50% higher than it was at its 'lowest' point". Hmmm. That isn't high enough. And of course the South Aral Sea is on its path to complete dry up. So this video reveals very sad news. A great big thanks goes to Russia (USSR), who could now be approached about current wasteful watering methods and perhaps sending a share of the water down to the Aral Sea, where it belongs.

The North keeps getting its volume back but the unfortunately the east south aral ( the main portion of the south Aral Sea ) has completely dried up leaving only the west south Aral Sea , which unfortunately in a dew years , or even a decade , it will be completely dried up .

I hope the other countries will learn from it. Like my country Pakistan 🇵🇰. We have also extrem shortage of drinking water. Thow we have 5 big revers and Arabian See. But politicians did nothing in last 40 years for it. They did so much. But just for corruption and to full fill there pockets. And now my generation should face it.
