    Panama is like a paella, we are a mixture of indigenous peoples, Spaniards, African, Chinese, Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Arabs and a bit of many others, with no violence towards each other, regardless of what occurs elsewhere. Not perfect, but glad to be who we are, with our defects, too busy having fun, making friends to spend time on hatred or divisiveness. Enjoy your time, the culture and people. Viva Panama 🇵🇦

I just want to say from a personal standpoint, the most important things you were messaging was 'know thy self', don't 'apologize for who you are' and the main thing for me is 'don't judge this book by it's cover'!! Not sure where my comment went, sorry if duplicate. Loved this video comparison and your assessments. We are nurse sisters. I love Africa, its in my blood, even though i am very white and Polish. I lived in Rwanda for 2 years, helped develop and complete the first graduating class of MSN students at UR! So proud of everyone. Your assessment is truth. In my work and travels abroad, I found it difficult to really integrate, into locals lives, to feel a true depth of friendship without a good handle on the language. Getting invited into locals homes is a rarity. My interest is there to visit Panama, when i start my retirement travels in a couple years to find my next home. I really appreciate your videos. And thanks for the assessment of Ghana, its on my return to Africa visit list... keep going Maggie. You demonstrate a true caring while still being a nurse, through these videos. Thank you !!

    I loveyour honesty and transparency. As someone who has a love-hate relationship with Africa (West Africa more specifically), your assessment is spot on. There's so much more I could say, but ultimately it’s about choosing yourself and what you need at this time in your life. I’m in the process of relocating and there’s literally no where in Africa that I feel is safe or stable enough for such a move. Especially, as a single woman of any age. These are the realities that must be considered; not the “potential” of a place. Socio-political stability in the region (and nation of choice), infrastructure, etc must be fully researched. Some locations in Europe and Latin America fell off my list for the reasons I mentioned. At the end of the day, it’s about your needs, wants, etc and you owe no one an explanation or apology for making your decisions. I really need more women living abroad, to have this level of transparency and honesty when discussing relocation. Thank you for this and I’m going to catch up with the rest of the #replays!🫶🏾

I felt very welcome in Panamá and I like the closeness to my family since it’s a short flight to the US. The food is much fresher in Panamá and infrastructure is better. I did not feel as welcome in Ghana and hope to see a different side of Ghana when I return on a group trip next year. So far, it’s a NO for me as far as a relocation place.

    In a country like Ghana, it is not easy to change the status quo. They are totally stuck with that attitude. You were right and it will take a lot of discipline to make an impactful change.

    I see nothing wrong with you decision. I have permanent residence there. However, I found that I did not like it there. I found the food very disappointing. I cooked most of my own meals. The cost of living was close to the states and the quality of the housing was not to my liking. I'm in Thailand now. It's not really for me either so I expect to move to Africa in a year to see if I can find a place that I find livable. Great video. I enjoyed your insight.

    Thank you for sharing your experiences in Ghana and Rwanda so objectively. I was eyeing those countries a while back and like you, I didn't buy into the hype. Regarding Panama, I was stationed with the Southern Command back in the day and although the war/conflict was trying, I did not want to leave. I have been going back since the late 1980s and still consider it home. However, I ended up buying a place in Montenegro, which is probably 99.9 percent white. I live in Florida and I am currently renting the condo to tourists. As a black woman, I am treated exceptionally well because I am a rarity there. I had considered Panama for many years but learned that the cops are still crooked and expats are practically re-colonizing towns like Boquete and are driving real estate prices so high that many locals can't afford to buy in their own country. But I do agree that Panama has many good qualities, especially in light of some bad years that we've endured here in The USA. Panama will always have a special place in my heart. I wish you the best!

You can look at films and video, try out cultural foods in other places but you don't get smell and that's some thing I find interesting. • @singlewomenretiringabroad
      @singlewomenretiringabroad  2 месяца назад

      Hi, thanks for watching. Interesting question. I did not detect any particular smell in either place. Ghana is very green especially in the interior and places like Cape Coast. As for Rwanda, you might have heard of how clean the city is. Kigali is very hilly and the interior is stunning. No smells noted. Thanks for taking the time to comment and ask a question.

    Maggie, I loved your video. I am a Black American living in Ghana these past 18 years. All that you said, I agree with and you even had me laughing at many of your remarks. When I came here on an exploratory trip more than 20 years ago, it struck me as the total and complete right place. Having lived here for so long, I am now sort of 'over it', and am ready for my next adventure. I'm looking seriously at Panama. I would be open to a house swap with someone there who wants to experience life in Cape coast, Ghana for a few months. What do you think?
