Thanks for a very interesting video. I’m currently waiting for my dog but I’m definitely going to train it to go potty on a disposable potty mat for situations like this. Also, as someone who once witnessed an elderly woman getting her upper arm skinned when she fell getting off of an escalator, it was super scary for me to see Dallas on one. Escalators can inflict horrific injuries if you are unlucky, that’s why children are not allowed to play on them.

I thought I would mention that there are many ways of going through security, do what works for you. Here are some options: 1) do what she did, vest on, no leash and recall with a pat down 2) vest off, naked doggo and recall, no pat down. 3) this is what I do with my SD, gear off, use a slip leash that doesn’t have metal (sometimes they say for you to go through at the same time) even though my boy had a solid recall, I just prefer to always be connected to him. These aren’t the only ways, do what works for you, your dog and your disability.
They definitely do calm down. Honestly I feel like Dallas was kinda crazy till she was about 2 and a half then I finally started to notice how perfect she is (and when I say perfect I don’t me that she’s perfect I mean that she’s just a great dog mistakes and all she’s still so amazing) so u will hit that point as well that point where u both grow as a team together

I love these. Do you have any suggestions of if someone is in wheelchair? i have to be pushed through airport by a airline attendee. i figure prompting them helps?
Pet owner are NOT required to keep their animals in carries the whole time they are in the airports. They are however required to keep them under control. We fly with my service dog every few weeks and we have seen all kind of things. I'm sorry to hear that the pet relief area was unclean. If you ever fly to DFW, they have some of the cleanest, best smelling pet relief areas I have ever seen and thankfully my dog can potty on command so we don't have to spend much time in those. :)
I can’t even believe how gross some of the pet relief areas get. U would think they never clean them. The first one was very nice and clean just very small. I did read that pets are required to stay in their carrier at all times unless they are using the relief area, I read that on Southwest Airlines site. I would think that should be a requirement due to all the issues people have with pets at airports. But maybe I’m wrong 🤷🏼♀️
Where did you get that service dog harness? I'm looking to get a new one for my own. Thanks for the info! My service dog will be taking her first flight soon.
I got it off of Etsy from a shop called Cozy Horse. It’s a cozy horse saddle bag. I love it bc the pockets are very handy. You can hook it to the back of a mobility harness as a cape, and it looks very professional
Great video! Just wondering how you were able to film so much through security? When I flew out of Prince George, British Columbia, last spring, I was told I wasn’t allowed to film while going through the scanner.
So I didn’t film while going through the scanner, my mom was behind me in line and she stood back to film while I went through. Then she put all of her things in the box including my camera and she went through. But it really depends on the person. Some might just want to be bossy and say no while others won’t care
I went through the normal line. When it was my turn they then pulled me aside and had me go through the regular metal detector instead of the X-ray machine
@@dallastheservicedoodle7236 Ahh ok I see that makes sense! I didn't even know there was a x ray machine! (This is going to be my first time flying so I just wanted to know)
My dog is support doctor certified. I was told difference is play for flight. Thats fine. The fees for service dog were huge. Training is what I do anyways. How much troubhle is it to get Dept of Ttransportation (I believe you said) to fly with dog ?
So support animals cannot fly in the cabin unless they are small enough to fit into a closed pet carrier that will fit under the seat. Then you will also have to pay the pet/ support animal fee to fly with them. It can be more difficult traveling internationally when you have an animal with you. The rules in one country are not the same in other countries.
I need to travel with my dog in cabin as I am moving out of Canada. I suffer from depression so I heard Emotional Support dogs are not allowed anymore, so I need to get a Service Dog certificate. Where did you get you Service Dog certificate? Thank you!!!
I am sorry, if u are moving to the United States there is no legit service dog certification or registration (those are scams). Airlines in America do not accept those bc the department of justice does not recognize them as proof the dog is a service dog. Emotional support animals or pets cannot fly in the cabin without a fee and they must be small enough to fit inside of a carrier. If they are not small enough then they cannot fly in the cabin, and you will have to contact the airline about other options they have available. People cannot just call an ESA a service dog just so they can fly with them for free. There are policies in place to help prevent people from doing that. I am sorry but if the dog is an ESA not legitimate fully trained service dog then you will have to contact the airline for other options.
Hi! I have a service dog and it will be my first time flying with her she is about the same size as Dallas and she is a poodle. I get really overwhelmed with unpredictable situations so this is going to be really interesting for me. I have a few questions though. 1 do you think I would be able to fit my dog in a regular seat so not Bulk head. She is trained to fin into small spaces but there is only so much you can do to get a large service dog out of the way and idk if she will fit or not. 2 for the pre board do I just go with a regular ticket or do I need to purchase a different one. 3 if anyone has any tips or anything it would be greatly appreciated
I think that it would be a tight squeeze but I have seen others make it work. And I think that if you get there early you can speak with the flight attendant or the person at the gate to try and figure out something Incase it doesn’t work. It also depends what airline u are flying with. Southwest is always amazing and will try to make sure u get a good seat and hopefully bulk head. When you purchase your ticket also depends on what airline, bc southwest you can click that you have a service dog which will allow u to have pre barding and they also don’t have assigned seats. I have never flew with any other airline so I can’t speak on the other airlines. I hope this helps! Just try and speak with the workers at the gate before boarding and they will hopefully help u out
She started training the moment I brought her home at 8 weeks. We did extensive training for about 2 years going to group classes as well as privet lessons. She has been socialized from a very young age so she is comfortable in most situations (she doesn’t really know any other way of life). The first flight is always a little unpredictable bc they have never done it but if you prepare well then it will all be fine.
I’m going to be flying with my SDIT for the first time in a few weeks. What would you recommend I should specifically train for other than tucking in the plane (she has it down pretty well)
When we flew Sept 2022 all of our DOT info was online. Do you bring the forms as a backup? We had to register him ahead of time and get him a DOT number.
It really depends on the airline. We flew with southwest and they are okay with u filling out the form and printing it to present to them at check in. We didn’t submit it online. But it may be different for different airlines
The DOT form (department of transportation form) is a form that u will need to fill out before u check in. My advice would be to download the form, fill it out and print it out so it’s ready to hand to the person at check in. If the form is not filled out then they will not let you fly with your dog
Will they deny your dogs if he has a moment or stubborn for a sec. I have a elderly SD. That is retiring after I get him home from Las Vegas to Orlando. I will be receiving a new one when I arrive.
It depends on the situation. If the dogs out of control or aggressive they have the right to deny them. But if they let out one bark or u have to tell them something more than once that’s totally okay. They just have to be under control
@@dallastheservicedoodle7236 Ok no. No aggression. Just slow and Old. I have let him get away with almost no commands for year. All he does is sleep by me now. Almost thought I was gonna have to put him down. But he bounced back. So he gets to stay as long as he wants.
The DOT form is the department of transportation form. You get it off of department of transportation.gov website and u fill it out accordingly then bring it when it is time for you to check in for your flight. The dog must be fully trained in public access and able to preform a task to assist u with your disability.
It’s from a shop on Etsy called cozy horse. They are saddle bags that are a cap (hook onto the bag of a harness) and I got a strap to convert it into a vest
@@dallastheservicedoodle7236 That is so helpful to know. I have been flying solo and it is getting harder and harder to do, so traveling with someone will help so much.
I don’t fly very often but I have always flown with southwest. That’s just the one that I’m most comfortable with and they are always amazing with service animals
Is it true that bigger dogs have to get flown in a cart on a separate flight? You think an Airedale Terrier would be allowed on the flight with their owner? Looking to avoid having a dog be cramped up in complete darkness treated like trash
So for pets if the dog is bigger than the requirements to fit in a carry on cage then they have to basically be checked and they do not fly in the cabin with u. For service dogs it is different. Service dogs are not pets and they are allowed to fly in the cabin without having to be caged bc they are highly trained. I’m not sure though if there is still a requirement size wise. Bc a 200 lbs Irish wolf hound would obviously not fit on the plane. But my 70 lbs doodle was allowed on bc she can lay at my feet without disturbing others
They never got to her bc the owners got them before they got to her. They didn’t seem friendly when they were coming. They seemed very overwhelmed and over stimulated
What I did was I googled department of transportation service animal form. Then I printed it and filled it out and singed it. The date that u sign it with must be any date after the time u bought your ticket for that flight
Check with your vet depending on breed just to make sure. Pugs have a real problem with it. However I never heard of a Pug as a service dog but my nephew’s Pug is for him. Very well done video. Great job and very helpful!👍🏻
Department of transportation form for service animals. It’s a new form that everyone traveling with a service dog must fill out and sign. They must present the filled out form to the person at check in. U can find the form if u google DOT form
I haven’t had this problem, I assume on longer flights this could be an issue for some. I have heard some people say they bring potty pads on the plane in case the dog is going to have an accident.
If u google DOT form and click the department of transportation service animal form website, it will take u to a page with a pdf file that you can download and print out
having a "go" command is really essential to sd so can go on command before stores etc. Otherwise, its just whenever you happen to before entering places. this is the first time ever heard of a sd not trained for this. all organizations trained sd have that command already. id consider training that very much. id also work more on the dogs sniffing the floor and stuff while working and such. dont see sd do that ether unless given permission not just because you dont catch it and correct them. thats very important for sd to be good on aso. the sniffing thing, sure there not robots but she did it early in and several times. more then you expect a sd
It’s a good video however be mindful on escalators with your service dog if they’re not wearing boots. That’s dangerous what you did going on without protection on their paws. Not trying to sound rude but their paws could get hurt without wearing boots. 2:29
I understand that it can be dangerous for their paws. Escalators were part of her training that she went through and we were both trained how to best do it. I would put boots on her however she doesn’t do well in boots at all bc she is extremely gear shy.
They do not. But service animals aren’t covered under the ADA when it comes to flying. They are covered under the ACAA. The department of transportation requires anyone who is flying with a service dog to fill out the the department of transportation form and present it at check in.
The DOT form is the only requirement for paperwork when it comes to service dogs, and it’s only for people who will fly with their dog. In my previous video before this one I talk a bit about the form of u are interested in learning more about it
Hey! Do you ever have people say Dallas isn’t right for looking at other dogs? My Daisy does the same thing, never pulling just interested, and I always worry about people judging us 🥲
I have heard people say it, but never to me. Honestly I wouldn’t care if they said it to me bc it’s a ridiculous thing to say. I don’t mind if she looks at other dogs or even other distractions as long as she’s still under my control. I just use it as a training exercise. But I wouldn’t worry about people judging u. Half the time of u run into another team y’all will both be so focused on your dog u probs won’t even realize if the other dog is distracted. At least that’s my experience

Just try and speak with the workers at the gate before boarding and they will hopefully help u out
How were you able keep your dog comfortable and trained during the plane ride? Also, how young did you start training
Wait where can you get the form cause I see everyone getting it but for my future sd if u ever fly I’ll need those forma
If u google DOT service dog form it will come up. U can save it and print it so u can fill it out
I’m going to be flying with my SDIT for the first time in a few weeks. What would you recommend I should specifically train for other than tucking in the plane (she has it down pretty well)
I’d definitely recommend training stay and release commands. Off leash or out of vest if u end up needing that through security.
However it would be a good idea to bring a back up if someone did it all online
What do you mean by form because I’m going on holiday with my sd soon and I’m a little confused! Because it’s my first time flying with my sd dog
The DOT form (department of transportation form) is a form that u will need to fill out before u check in. My advice would be to download the form, fill it out and print it out so it’s ready to hand to the person at check in. If the form is not filled out then they will not let you fly with your dog
@@dallastheservicedoodle7236 tyyy that help a lot
He’s just a happy old man… I think he will be more than welcome to fly with you. Hope y’all have a good adventure
What is that deportation form ? How do I get it ? If you self train your dog
The DOT form is the department of transportation form. You get it off of department of transportation.gov website and u fill it out accordingly then bring it when it is time for you to check in for your flight. The dog must be fully trained in public access and able to preform a task to assist u with your disability.
could you share where did you got your SD harness/vest?
It’s from a shop on Etsy called cozy horse. They are saddle bags that are a cap (hook onto the bag of a harness) and I got a strap to convert it into a vest
When you pre board, is he person that you are flying with also able to pre board?
Yes, however if it’s a larger group I’m not sure about the whole group. Usually they let 1-2 board with u
@@dallastheservicedoodle7236 That is so helpful to know. I have been flying solo and it is getting harder and harder to do, so traveling with someone will help so much.
What airline do you frequent more than others … and why?
🥰
Has dallas done his PAT test?
Yes my trainer took us out when she was 2 and we tested then.
When you say that the other dogs came at Dallas do you mean they attacked him or just wanted to sniff?
They never got to her bc the owners got them before they got to her. They didn’t seem friendly when they were coming. They seemed very overwhelmed and over stimulated
So for the paper where do I get one ? To get signed? I am planning on flying with my sd once she is fully trained
What I did was I googled department of transportation service animal form. Then I printed it and filled it out and singed it. The date that u sign it with must be any date after the time u bought your ticket for that flight
Does the flight pressure hurt her ears and how do you help that?
Idk if it bothers them, Dallas seemed comfortable on the plane. I feel like it’s probably just like our ears
Check with your vet depending on breed just to make sure. Pugs have a real problem with it. However I never heard of a Pug as a service dog but my nephew’s Pug is for him. Very well done video. Great job and very helpful!👍🏻
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
what is a dot form?
Department of transportation form for service animals. It’s a new form that everyone traveling with a service dog must fill out and sign. They must present the filled out form to the person at check in. U can find the form if u google DOT form
What do you do if she didn’t use the relief area and has to go on the plane? Even service dogs aren’t perfect 100% of the time.
I haven’t had this problem, I assume on longer flights this could be an issue for some. I have heard some people say they bring potty pads on the plane in case the dog is going to have an accident.
Hi! ❤ Where can I find the DOT form?? And does it need to be notarized??
If u google DOT form and click the department of transportation service animal form website, it will take u to a page with a pdf file that you can download and print out
And no it doesn’t need to be notarized
having a "go" command is really essential to sd so can go on command before stores etc.
Is there two documents we need?
No just the one
Does this need to be filled out by the DR??
No u can fill it out
It’s a good video however be mindful on escalators with your service dog if they’re not wearing boots.
@@dallastheservicedoodle7236 That’s cool you worked on escalators together.
I thought service dog dont have paperwork
They do not. But service animals aren’t covered under the ADA when it comes to flying. They are covered under the ACAA. The department of transportation requires anyone who is flying with a service dog to fill out the the department of transportation form and present it at check in.
I got told certificates and paperwork was fake
The DOT form is the only requirement for paperwork when it comes to service dogs, and it’s only for people who will fly with their dog. In my previous video before this one I talk a bit about the form of u are interested in learning more about it
Sorry, could not tune out your over bearing music. I was interested in the educational value of the video and not the music.
