Thank you so much for this. I’m really new to arranging horns and I’m trying a hand at arranging them for my Afrobeat music, which would heavily rely on horns for dynamics and melodic interest. These concepts have been really helpful! (:
Thanks for helping us understand some arranging options in simple terms. I'm tasked with arranging a tune I wrote; thanks for explaining the various choices.
Thank you very much for this superb tutorial on arranging. Providing examples from actual songs would be helpful. Please make more tutorials on this topic, I am very interested in this topic. Instant subscribe.
I´d love to HEAR some examples of the techniques you´re talking about, as you explain them. Still, I pretty much get most of it. Thanks for making these videos.
I've never been a "horn" guy. No Tower of Power, Herb Alpert on my iPod (maybe a little Chicago). But I get to playing around on my DAW and all of a sudden I hear a trumpet...Latino-like, or spaghetti western...it's so cool. But I need other horn accompaniment. Thus, your tutorials. Most over my head as I understand only the most basic of musical notation but little by little the flow, the rhythm and sound seems to be sinking in.
Excellent video Fred, just signed up to your tutorial blog via your website. Will also be working through your previous videos as I feel I shouldn't be starting at session 36 :-)
Thanks Bladimir. Go to my website and checkout my Video Scores master class. You might like it. Shoot me an email and I send you my free ebook. thanks again FS
A pedal tone is a single note either on top or below the chord changes and is typically a common tone of those chord voicings. A pad is just sustained chord voicings. For example, the bass player is playing an E and the guitar player is playing Emin to Dmaj. Or the keyboard player is playing a high E to those same changes. Hope that helps. Thanks FS
One of the most informative videos I seen in a while!!!

Good to hear. Listen to Chicago's first 4 studio albums. The best of their stuff. Not so poppy.
If you go to my website there are some examples. And if you pickup Video Scores it's all about examples. I hear ya. Thanks FS

What is out there besides the traditional passing chords? I guess any chord would go as long the voice leading would lead correctly?
Pedal tone vs sustained pad - looks similar to me. Could you please help me understand the difference?
