- 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue Overheating Problem Solved. Ok this was the problem, we decided to replaced the thermostat because we haven't get any warm air till later on and then we replaced the thermostat with a aftermarket part. After we replace the aftermarket thermostat ($23) the car started overheating on max temperature and mins. So i decided to get the OEM (original) part from Chevrolet ($80) and problem solved, no more overheating problems. So if you are changing the thermostat on this particular car you should get the original part for it.
Gracias
I have a 2001 Olds Intrigue and it is overheating as well. I saw another video of someone changing and cleaning all of the hoses and intake manifold gasket. He said the he changed the thermostat but didn't say if it was bought from a parts store. I think buying factor makes more sense and will try that first. Thanks so much for this video and God bless!!!
yes, i saw that video too, but that was too much work so i read another comment on the Forums and someone mentioned this fixed so i did it and it worked just fine
Thank you Daniel. This is great information about the oem parts. I have bee trying everything to get the heater to work while idling. I appreciate all that you do to make my car repairs easier.
You speaking in Spanish made it extremely difficult for the many of us that speak English only. I understand you did say that this fixed the problem replacing it with the original manufacturers part. Just something to think about if you make another video. Thank you for your time.
Thanks for the video!! This solved my issue as well. Aftermarket thermostat went bad quickly.
Where’d you get the thermostat ? Everywhere I check online says discontinuedi need help!
I am 2nd owner of same car. I noticed some mechanic replaced wrong termostat which not belong to this engine. It was small size and belong to some other engine. I purchased right one. I paid $45 plus tax. Motorad brand, Made in Germany.
Gracias for this video guys! Worth the $2-3 bucks extra+ you get an extra housing unit with it basically if the first one's not bad. Gracias again
Matt S you're welcome y gracias for your comentario 😉😉👍👍
Great vid! Do you know where the cooling system temperature sender/sensor is located on a 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue? The fans work and the fans’ relays are good but I can’t locate the cooling system temperature sender sensor to test it and replace it. Thanks.
thank you for this video ive changed every seal on this motor including the heater core crossover pipe seals which are notorious for leaking and the intake manifold seals but still was overheating.....thank you very much for showing this....I will go get the OEM thermostat Monday. You're a blessing on this because I thought I was Goin crazy.
No problem Johnny hope you fixed the problem and let us know . Thanks
will do I've basically rebuilt the entire cooling system and fuel system at the engine on this car so hopefully a good flush and a Chevy thermostat will be the big fix.
Hey johnny do you know where I can find a video on how to change a water pump in a 2001 intrigue I got everything I need
It appears that there is a secondary diverter type plunger at the end of the thermostat that's necessary to force water to the radiator at low water pump rpm. The motorad 464180 thermostat has it. And the AC DELCO 12t106d does also. Hope that helps.
I replaced mine in 2011, I though it was stuck open. Temp didn't go passed 1/4 & didn't get good heat, I used a part store one & it worked fine. 5 years later it did the same thing, I just put cardboard in front of the rad. I replaced it yesterday & found that the black seal blows out, there is little holes that coolant passes through. I had pictures from when I changed it in 2011, I looked at them & saw that is what it did then. So I guess that is a good fail-safe they came up with.
James Blodgett that's right, thank you for sharing your experience with us. 😁😁👍👍
Daniel Rescue Movers:
I've had the car since May 2005 with 73,000 it now has 298,000 miles.
James Blodgett man that's a lot miles, it looks that you been take care of it pretty good 👍👍
James thats impressive! Good luck! I got mine 2002 3.5 just now with 132k miles on it
The Thermostat that you first installed on your 2000 Oldsmobile, Stant Parts# 14798
makes my 1999 Oldsmobile intrigue overheat also. I recently purchased a new thermostat on Rockauto.com
ACDelco Pro 12T106D I will just use this with the original thermostat housing that I TOOK OFF THE CAR.
go to the Chevy dealership and get a new one from the parts dept. you may not need the full housing unless its all one piece if not just get the thermostat and new seal and use your old housing if its not cracked or leaking.
Agree
Johnny Yates:
RockAuto has an ACdelco one without the housing, I should have gotten it but I got the gates one with housing. I replaced it yesterday, so far so good.
James Blodgett did it have any problems after you replaced it with the gates Thermostat or was it working fine at temp ??
Thanks so much Daniel!
Thank you Daniel. I am searching for the OEM thermostat for my 2001 Intrigue with no luck. Is it possible that you might remember the part #. Love your video's. Have a Blessed Holiday season.
Alright the part number is
Brand: Wahler
Part Number:12570248
Cool having same problem .Just replaced with new autozone thermostat but still overheating. Will but factory one.S nd hopefully it works for me to.Cause it ain't the heads, and fans are turning on.Thanks again
Filiberto Barrera you're welcome and let us know if you fixed the overheating by changing it with the factory one.:)
Daniel Rescue Movers sure will.
Daniel Rescue Movers yea it was the wrong thermostate. Even in your vidoe the autozone thermostate is different than the dealer therm.the dealer thermostate has an extra spring and rear plate that when thermostate opens it seals a hole in the head forcing water into the radiator. WITHOUT A thermostat or with the wrong one.The hole in the head stays open. And the water don't get to the radiator.the engine hot water will just recirculate through that secondary hole behind the thermostat. THANKS I WOULD OF NEVER FIGURED IT OUT.In your vidoe you ca see the dealers thermostat with seconary rear spring and shut off plate. And the parts store one is missing.
Alright i'm glad to hear that! Thank you for sharing your problem with your thermostat and finally fixed it. Thanks :)
I know this was a year ago, but I went into a dealership looking for the OEM thermostat replacement and they told me they've all been discontinued... What should I do?
Thank you!
Oh my heat works fine by the way so I am also wondering if it is indeed the thermostat. I don't know a lot about cars...
if your car has this sintoms replace water pump and thermostat
Do you have any videos on how to change a water pump on a 2001 oldsmobile intrigue?
Not yet, i'm sorry
Do you know where I can find a video on how to change the water pump for the 01 intrigue I'm new at this kind of stuff and my water pump just went out and is leakin water everytime I put it in and it's still overheating so I got the new water pump and gaskets with antifreeze
it should be not that hard, can't find any videos of this model, just empty the antifreeze, remove the belt and locate the water pump pulley ( remove the bolts of the water pump pulley, remove the water pump and just replace it for the new one.
Ok man I'll give it a try! Thanks for the help.
THANK YOU.
You're welocome:)
I need the steering wheel with a radio control buttons too!

Sorry dude that was three years ago, I just barely know what I did yesterday lol
