Thanks to @rys_fliesclt for tying up some awesome flies!
Hey yall, Johnny here! Thank you all so much for all the kind words! It really warms my heart and made my day seeing these ❤ so glad I could help you out and spread some knowledge for ya! Look forward to seeing you again! And if anyone needs some flyfishing guidance, you know where to find me! 🙏💪🎣
Tight lines everyone!!!
Johnny , i would absolutely love to see some videos from you man . Especially as someone new to fly fishing, you’ve already taught us more in those few minutes than most would in a whole video imo. Hope to see you more on the channel.
That man just casually and clearly explained a lifetime of understanding. Legendary.
Thank you man, my purpose in life is to spread knowledge and get as many people enjoying the outdoors as possible! 💪🙏🎣
Tight lines!
He deserves a raise and promotion!!
Dude. That boy Johnny deserves a huuuuuge raise. He was awesome.
Thank you for the kind words! 🙏 tight lines!
That employee went above and beyond you can tell hes passionate about what he does
Thank you! It means more than you can imagine! 💪🙏🎣 tight lines!
That employee deserves a raise and a reward.....I have much respect for fly fishermen, it looks so hard
It's a lifestyle my friend
It's not hard at all.
@angrysquid666 let's see you do it 😉
Thank you for the kind words, it means the world 🙏💪🎣
Bass Pro is lucky to have Johnny
I like to think so! 😉 thank you for the kind words! It means the world! Tight lines! 🙏🎣
Tear'm up Trey!! You don't need to know... You're the fish whisperer 🤘🐟🐠🦈🤘
One piece of advise when fly fishing is the always keep the line under your right index finger after you have casted and stripping the line in. Hopefully that makes sense. Looking good so far! Also work on roll casts when you have trees or brush behind you so you don't snag as much. Check out Mad River Outfitters for a ton of good instructional videos on techniques from beginner, to intermediate all the way to advanced👍
You did great especially for your first time 👍. Keep them coming!!
I'm a lifetime fly-only guy. I fish everything from 4" brook trout in small streams to tarpon and bonefish in Mexico. Trey looks like every first timer. I promise, if Trey took one legit casting lesson he'd never pick up a bait rod again.
Yeah I think you convinced me to take a lesson. My casting makes tre look like any expert. 😂
A good rule of thumb learning to cast is to back cast to 10o'clock and forward cast to 2o'clock and remember to wait for the line to load on the back cast. Don't be afraid to strip out enough line for your full casting distance and let it sit on the ground at your feet. It will allow you to get your line out faster and save you making too many false casts.
Wait for that load of the fly to hit the back of the cast then throw forward allowing that full loop and no tangles and farther cast. If that makes sense 🤙🤙
Great video. The bass pro fly angler was so informative.
Awesome stuff bro! Ole buddy taught us all a whole lot in a few minutes!
Cool to see you've started your own channel. I wish you success. One tip, the line doesn't get pulled off the spool like other reels. You pull the line out before you cast and let it lay on the ground in front of you. When you cast, all that line on the ground will follow along, and you'll be able to cast as far as the line you have out.
Hey Trey! You, Norm, TJ and Smalls have inspired me to start filming and create a channel! I mainly fly fish and you guys have got me "hooked" on bait casters and spinning rods for bass fishing now. I live up in Bend Oregon (Mountain town with many lakes and rivers and breweries lol) I just wanted to say thanks for the inspiration, and I would love to film with you guys one day. If you are ever looking to come to the PNW him me up. I'll reach back up once the channel is off and running. All the best, and stay safe! Keep up the good work:)
Great video, Trey. I am so impressed that you were able to catch so many fish your first time out.
loop to loop means both lines have pre formed loops and you join them by passing the loops through each other. roll casting is how you deal with trees and the point to fly fishing is you don't winch them onto the bank with force but with skill
Well done trey, awesome effort.
Get on and watch some videos on how to cast, retrieve and play a fish.
Although you have done a great job so far 🎣🎣
Loving the content! Super happy to see your channel up and running!
Let's go Trey!!!!! ❤ Another awesome video.
Quoting Smalls! This is a 10 out of 10 video already 😆 🤣 😂 Congratulations on the channel. Ready to see some collabs with Smalls
Fly Fishing is so much fun! Take some time playing with all the kinds of casting, and you'll be hooked for real. A roll cast can be handy when surrounded by trees.
Hitting the content hard to start! Keep up the great work! I love fly fishing, patience is key. Also I wish I could do it more!
Very informative video. This has been one of my overall favorite videos
Love the channel so far. Thanks for doing what you do. :)
So glad you made a channel always a great time watching you
Awesome job Trey!! Enjoyed the video brother!! Keep up the good work!!

Johnny was the definition of excellent customer service and way to go stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new you caught more than I thought you would keep the 🔥 🔥 🔥 coming bro
keep killing it man, you're going to do things in life.
Nice work brother! What a great video. I don't know any bass fisherman that catch them with a fly rod. I've never used one before either but it looked like you had a lot of fun doing it. Thanks for another banger Trey keep em coming brother 😎🤙
ITS TREYWAYY BACK WITH ANOTHER BANGER🔥🤙🏼
You Did a great job for the first time on the fly! Always time to practice and get better, need to try out some mountain trout fishing now!

That was a great vid Tray I also learned a lot about fly fishing I learned so much that I won't be doing it not for awhile.
Johnny made me want to dig my fly combos back out and give it another go!
Great crash course in fly fishing. Just getting back into it recently. This video is inspiration to get on some fresh water fish.
WTF bro awesome video 👍💯🙏🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣 keep em coming as i knew u would! Thank u very much Trey 👍
ALWAYS a good day when Trey posts!!🎉
I absolutely loved this episode.....trey making waves in the fishing community....good video idea
I love Trey, i had no idea he had a channel until this morning! Instant subscribe
This is awesome because I just got a fly rod gifted to me but have no idea how to rig or cast so we were in the same boat on that one! You definitely taught me some stuff
I like that you decided to do the fly fishing. This puts your channel a little different from the other fishing channels
👍 way to go takes some to time to learn keep it up
I have always wanted to learn how to fly fish but i get intimidated every time I go into that section in my local Bass Pro. Wish we had a Johnny to teach me. I am glad you found him and shared all this information. Going to watch this video a few times so I can also go and get my first flyfishing rig. Thanks for sharing Trey. Hope all is well! God bless!
Keep it up dude . Trying new stuff is always a challenge.
Wow - Johnny from Bass Pro Shops. That was a lucky break meeting him! Great video, Trey - so good to see your channel growing. Just keep making good honest content and your subs will continue to grow. Best of luck! :D
Those Peacock Bass are beautiful.
This summer I wanna learn how to fly fish just to learn something new, great video don’t stop posting!!
I watched a series on public television to learn how to cast and some guy helped me out while fishing a pond in Colorado.
My first combo was a Pflueger rod/reel with a five weight line. I haven't used a flyrod in twenty years except for once when I was catching carp by throwing out a line with weight by hand so I wouldn't wreck my line
Keep doing it, you will get used to
It. You did really well for the first time. I love my fly rod. 🤠👍🇨🇱
Both you and Jhonny making me wanna start fly fishing!
We’ve been waiting for this channel to get active 💪💪💪 keep em coming champ
So glad to see this! Fly fishing is so much fun, I've converted over to fishing it exclusively. Catching panfish on lighter weight rods is even more fun. Try bluegills on a 1 or 2 weight ;). Glad to see you tried it out :)
Haha it was awesome watching you learn the cast. Think about throwing the line instead of the fly. It’s kinda got a dance to it. I find it easier to load the road when the line is wet, then feel the rod pop behind you, then punch it forward. You’re doing great homie
This is dope! Makes me want to try it
Let’s go Trey love the consistency, keep it up bro🔥
Nice work for your first time 👊🏻👊🏻💯
Trey that guy is amazing. Need to get him out with you. It took me years to learn by trial and error what he told you in min.
Double uni is a good knot fyi.
Good on you Trey. If I were you I would get some fly casting lessons, 1/2 to a full days worth will do you fine. Once you know the cast you'll be laughing and fully enjoying fly fishing. Keep at it man.
Good job bro 👏 👍
This guy is a litteral bad ass when it comes to fishing! you need to write a book or have a fishing school with your name on it!
Nice fish and nice job makes me want to try it
Great Video Trey, If I lived down that way I would show you some stuff. Those Clouser flies you got are great flies, and it's nice to see you were able to pick some stuff up. Try stripping out more line before you cast and then when you strip the line back, use your main "pulling hand" to strip the line back to you, and then use your index finger to grab the line, so you can reach up and grab the line again to strip more line. I am sure if you keep at it, you will get it.
Trey, thanks for the video. When you started your channel I hoped for a more "educational" vids from you. "The boys" do a lot of 1V1 etc. type of content which is great BUT you IMHO are the true fisherman. More education focused vids is my vote moving forward. 😃
thanks Trey learned a lot
Congrats on 6,500 subs I believe I was like the 53rd glad to see quick growth you deserve it . Keep killing it !! Got me looking at fly combo’s right now 😂
Insanely good results for your first time! You did better than you think. Gotta keep that floating line running through the fingers on your right hand. Controls tension and frees up your left hand to strip and make adjustments. Casting is still something i struggle with on light flies, all practice and figuring out how to load the little weight it is. Stay bent brother :)
You're doing great for no training! Wish trout where that easy, and dry.... Reels just for storage, index finger on rod to lock the line to it. Surprised the employee didn't take you out to the parking lot for a 5 minute demo on casting. Super quick to pick up. Psyched to see you can do that down South. Please do this again! Hit the rivers in waders!
It going to take a little time but you will enjoy it❤❤😂😂😂funny u did great for the first time😂😂
Great video bro hope your channel blows up
Let’s go! Trey on the fly
Love the vid. I’d get an hour casting lesson. But if you search roll casting. You’ll stay out of the trees. Fly fishing is wildly addictive.
I’m over here cheering for you on every fish.
Hi trey I found this video didn't know I wasn't a subscriber on this channel I am now I love your videos I hope you catch a lot of fish with this combo best of luck frome paul in p.a a fellow youtuber beginner
Awesome video man
Go get em Trey.
Bit of a steep learning curve when it comes to the old fly rod but damn its good fun when you get it down 🎣
Yeah the fly comes in cluch 🤙🙌
Looo to loop connection means you don’t have to tie a know with your tippet it has a loop just like the fly line. And you can’t cast a fly rod without at least a rod’s length of fly line past the tip of the rod. Thanks for the lovely vid Trey
Also. When your false casting. In your head go forward pause backward pause. The loop has to get so far down the line to transfer the weight of the fly and the line out the way you need to be
Like all your video keep it up
Just some advice. Practice casting in an open field. And secondly when stripping in your line keep the line tucked under your right pointer finger. And strip with your left hand
So right hand permanently mounded to the fly rod with the fly line tucked under the right pointer finger
Take your left hand and strip some line in and drop go back strip more line etc. you can reel the fish in this was as well instead of using the reel I hope this makes sense keep up the good work
Johnny is the real deal. What a treasure.
Jonny is the man I work with him for a bit when I worked at basspro, fly fishing for peacocks is a ton of fun and you should try to tie flies as well really cool to catch a fish on a fly you tied.
Pretty solid fishing for your first time.
That was awesome. Key questions you didn't ask. How to tie on the tippet. How to cast. Should I use the line to play the fish or "get him on the reel?" You also could have got him to remove the reel secure "zip ties." You could have taken the rubber band off that way. Fun to watch your first attempts. I was REALLY surprised you didn't get one of the ftogs! You will learn if you keep things up. Fly Fishing is NOT easy when done correctly. Watch some RUclips videos! Back in my day I read books. I still don't own a fly rod and the tree surrounded pond where I fish now is NOT the place to learn. I love ultra lite fishing with spinning and never saw that I would like the hand to hand combat of a fly fishing rod.. so I just never went there. Kudos!
