Conflict mode is just incredible, easily the best multiplayer experience I’ve had since the Conquest days in Bad Company and BF3/4. The devs are killing it, sticking to their roadmap and focusing on quality over quantity (unlike some games like Squad that seem to just pump out content). I feel like the reforger team is slowly but surely redefining the fps/tactical shooter genre and as a player It’s so refreshing to feel respected and actually heard by the devs
That's the problem isn't it, it's Battlefield tier. Not Arma tier. It's not Warfare. Battlefield was always more popular because it was more casual. They need to embrace that there is a niche market, because nobody else is going to fill that niche, least of all the direct competition in the "realistic milsim" space, because all the alternatives are in fact gear simulators and not real milsims.
I have to agree that conflict is the best mainstream gamemode produced for the arma series with arma 3 escape just behind it, hopefully we get escape in reforger

Having a game mode like this that heavily encourages players to work together ALL by themselves and does it that good is a Life saver for this game. Milsim and other gamemodes Are a nice side bonus, but this is the CORe gamemode that will keep players going back for more.And finally an arma title has that as vanilla

I absolutely adore the dynamics of Arma Refrogger, and while there are many bugs and features, there's nothing like it. I play basically any role one can think of in the game. From the bog standard Rifleman, to a full-fledged Commander who gives information to the whole team. All (with exceptions to the Medic and Administrative roles) have robust and awesome gameplay dynamics. While I agree the classless system currently in place allows a lot of freedom not seen in other Military titles, I believe there should be at least loadout roles where people can jump in as a certain role. Perhaps even restrict certain things depending on said role (say, Medics are the only ones who can use drugs and saline) to allow better incentive to take said roles to those interested. Of which can also vary by gamemode, say, Game Master has this "Class-based restriction" while vanilla Conflict is anything goes. Food for thought.
As a console gamer for many years I’ve always hated how restricted it’s been for us to experience realistic shooters/ games but obviously it has its reasons. We received insurgency sandstorm a while ago which I honestly think paved the way for other game developers to show it’s possible to get these games on console. I’m honestly shocked we have come to the day we have not only DayZ but now Arma. I’ve watched videos on Arma and DayZ for so many years and loved every bit and always told myself I’d end up getting a PC to experience it and now we don’t have to. Thank you BI for letting us experience this. It feels like console generation of gaming is slowly changing as they become more versatile and improving with each release
Best thing that’s happened to the Reforger community IMO, so many of the PS players I have met have been great guys, and the small community servers that where previously unknown on a server browser dominated by the same old heavy hitters are finally seeing the recognition they deserve. Can’t wait to see where 2025 takes us 👍
The number of new players is actually insane(I havent been able to even get into the official servers) the only servers where I can regularly get in are super bloated modded servers.
I just checked Steam charts. Reforger is currently at all time peak with 7,821 PC players. XBox is was about 80%, so multiply 7,800 by 5 which is about 39,000…add in PS5 and 50K might be about right!
yea it's been absolutely insane, every server and match I've gotten into is basically herding the ps5 newbies to the frontlines, great bunch of people and I'm glad so many are enjoying what Arma has to offer :D hopefully the playerbase stays somewhat stable in the thousands after this
It is indeed wild how many players there are now. Wanted to see how long it would take me to get into a server with a 50 player queue and it took me about 1 hour 10 minutes 😯
Player since first day here.. I totally get you. After PS players, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the server list. You can even see on Steam Charts, how the game got better. And those are Steam players only. With PS and Xbox players also counted in, we are def on a ultra alltime high. Almost nobody believed in this game, but those who played since day one (17th May 2022) can def tell you how big this is. This is completely different and we are so happy about it. You mention at 4:50 about how if you show up with armor in Squad you've got a million lats running at you immediately. This is absolutely true and one of the main things to keep in mind as an armor player. The thing is there are PLENTY of times where FOBs run out of ammo for LATs, and a vehicle then becomes insanely devastating to the area. It's just a matter of recognizing when that is. One of the things I always do when I run vics is make sure to NEVER be in LAT range during match start because we know the enemy team has maybe up to 10-12 LATs fully armed from match start. You want to bait shots at most and always return to repair and keep distance, then when its mid to late game and you know you've cut off supplies that you can really go wild, but it takes A LOT of knowledge to be able to know when to do that. One of my favorite early game vehicles to use is the bulldog and the aavp because they can eat up ~ 8 enemy RPGs before they go down so you can force a lot of runback/rearm of the enemy team
Reforger really makes me hopeful for arma 4. As a veteran PS3 player, I'm really happy PS5 players get to enjoy finally a game like reforger. Even war thunder when it released on PS4 was really amazing. What make it amazing with reforger is the immersion. Vehicle animations really make it... seamless? Seamless.
Yep, that is truely an awesome accomplishment for a game that was critized so hard on it's first EA release. IMO the best thing that Refrogger has are the unique things you also mentioned in the video: 1. A really good vanilla game mode 2. Detail in the equipment you interact with Bohemia really made Conflict awesome for the "average" playerbase. I was a huge ARMA fan since ARMA 2 but I always wanted the more tactical gameplay without the hassle of the whole group system. I get that with Refrogger so easily, even without the traditional strict squad system, which is just a miracle for me how that actually works in Refrogger. They did some strange stuff regarding my point 2, I really don't get why they did Mortars how they did them. On the other hand they made vehicle entry/exit so satisfying that I always smile when I enter a vehicle.
Really good point about Arma 3 “base game modes”. The main community ones I remember were Invade & Annex, Liberation and King Of The Hill…the main official game mode I remember being popular was Warlords which I think came out 4 or 5 years after Arma 3 was released. I used to love it, and it’s why I’ve stuck with Reforger from day 1 because Conflict is a much better version of Warlords, IMHO

I absolutely agree with quality density argument. Better have very little that is very detailed in terms of interaction and gameplay that provides more interesting gameplay every time because of how unique it is, like you will never drive UAZ the same way, you will never drive LAV-25 the same way etc. Better that than having to cope with "more with less" sort of attitude games like Squad, PS, HLL etc have. Reforger reminds me of good old Red Orchestra 2 days, we had same level of quality for both tanks and halftracks, interiors, animations, armor penetration, AI proxies, coordination, voice acting.

The base game I have had a blast with. Im glad the base game is this good because it wont be hard to find another full server I can just jump into. Dont get me wrong though, the mods are also amazing in this game too!
I would absolutely agree with everything, IF, refrogger did not dumb down the public experience with bullshit mechanics such as spawning everywhere, no stamina that makes a difference, and overall lack of consequences to being reckless. That said, the recent changes to spawning etc are a great move towards becoming more arma. Hopefully itll continue.
I think it’s very popular due to the play station players not having mods has allowed non modded servers to be populated and not everyone wait for their favorite modded one like I used to

I think it’s amazing how mods work on Xbox, I’m playing mouse and keyboard stable 1440p 60fps on modded servers like WCS and Ukraine vs Russia, really feels like when I used to play arma on my pc all those years ago 😂 really an amazing game with a good future
I only played on one server 24 vs 24 conflict everon. Sometimes I had multiple matches in a row that took between 30 to 60 minutes, because all the experienced players would join the russians and all the other and new players joined US. It was hard at times but I stayed loyal to US haha. I would've joined russian forces too but I really can't bear hearing the russian language. I always mute them.
I'm terrified that Arma 4 will not have a mission editor because of the devs perception of success with Conflict and prioritizing crossplay with consoles. Anyone I ask about this just reeeeeeeees at me and says "smooth gameplay" and "muh controls" but at what point will this series be only "Arma" in name alone. I get excited when I see the fidelity of mortars and potential crew served weapon gameplay but I fear that we have lost a considerable chunk of the original DNA of Arma and the Arma experience that led to us being brought here in the first place. Zoomers are gonna reply to this even though they weren't there for 60% of what I am talking about.

Only issue is what kind of new players we got. Plenty would shoot you in the back, steal your helo/car, crash it in less than minute while arguing with vets on main channel that they are taking this game "too seriously". If you watch them you will soon realize they are here just to grieve, so they've got no idea about game mechanics even though they've been playing for hours and days.😢
Arma Reforger was a low fps mess at release, but it's worth noting that right now it's the best runninng large scale milsim, it's not even close. I am ALWAYS over 60fps and relatively smooth in normal servers. Onlly with mods and AI does it run slower, and even that requires stupid amounts of AI. In contrast, more than like 20 AI is Arma 3 will bring your pc to it's knees, even today with modern pc's
On the other hand, they are quite a lot dependent on modding, which is done by pc users, not console players. So maybe there is a hope? Plus there is a question of retention - how many console players will stay.
I think PC players' assessment of console players is unfair. Those who come to this game expecting Call of Duty but a little harder will naturally be filtered out. In my experience these people are in the minority. Most console players that are being drawn to this game are people who genuinely wanted a milsim such as Arma on console and now they have Arma itself available to them. I want to point out that hardcore tactical shooters were a thing back on the PS2 and original Xbox. In fact Operation Flashpoint came out on the OG Xbox. There has been a severe drought of such games on console since at least the 360 era and so the people who stick with the game will be the ones who missed that experience. This is all to say that I don't think that Bohemia will change the game for the sake of people who should be playing Black Ops instead, because those players will soon be going back to that game. They won't be here to make enough noise to make any difference.

What I am worried, a bit, is that the keybinding will be negatively influenced thanks to the fact that there is much less buttons on console controllers. You can feel it now with AI ordering. On the other hand, choosing from tool bar is fine, so I guess the only hope is that they will keep good keybinding for PC players and that they will do less comfortable for consolists, and that they will not do more simple game just for the sake of console controllers.
@@michalabraham1604 The game already has very severe consolitis and many of the keybinds that were possible in Arma 2 and 3 are now impossible because they don't fit the controller.

This game is still garbage. Console numbers are inflating the player numbers and making it “seem” like a good product. Yes. To a console player with no choices and nothing like this it seems incredible but to the pc player this is trash. This game is so watered down and arcadized it’s an embarrassment to what “arma” is
@ I’m not sure if that’s true. I think Bohemia is not publicly traded. But armas been on the arcade decline for a while ever since Arma 2 where Arma 3 was significantly more arcade than before. I think it’s just a shill out. Get that console money and call it a day. No integrity. What they should do is make a new ip if they want arcade. Not sellout arma to be something it isn’t. Most console players that are being drawn to this game are people who genuinely wanted a milsim such as Arma on console and now they have Arma itself available to them. I want to point out that hardcore tactical shooters were a thing back on the PS2 and original Xbox. In fact Operation Flashpoint came out on the OG Xbox. There has been a severe drought of such games on console since at least the 360 era and so the people who stick with the game will be the ones who missed that experience. This is all to say that I don't think that Bohemia will change the game for the sake of people who should be playing Black Ops instead, because those players will soon be going back to that game. They won't be here to make enough noise to make any difference.

What I am worried, a bit, is that the keybinding will be negatively influenced thanks to the fact that there is much less buttons on console controllers. You can feel it now with AI ordering. On the other hand, choosing from tool bar is fine, so I guess the only hope is that they will keep good keybinding for PC players and that they will do less comfortable for consolists, and that they will not do more simple game just for the sake of console controllers.
@@michalabraham1604 The game already has very severe consolitis and many of the keybinds that were possible in Arma 2 and 3 are now impossible because they don't fit the controller.
In the next update, the more you carry, the more you'll slow down and become encumbered, just like in the latest experimental version. This game is getting so good, and that is all I want for Christmas, when it comes to Mil Sims! Cheers mate.

No mods on ps so it’s half the game once they get bored of the half game they payed full price for in a month maybe 2 it will go right back to how it was 3 weeks ago. :/

This game is still garbage. Console numbers are inflating the player numbers and making it “seem” like a good product. Yes. To a console player with no choices and nothing like this it seems incredible but to the pc player this is trash. This game is so watered down and arcadized it’s an embarrassment to what “arma” is

@ I’m not sure if that’s true. I think Bohemia is not publicly traded. But armas been on the arcade decline for a while ever since Arma 2 where Arma 3 was significantly more arcade than before.

What they should do is make a new ip if they want arcade. Not sellout arma to be something it isn’t. Seems of intellectual laziness to me and just cash in on the arma “name” even though that’s all it is, is the name not what Arma actually stands for
@@WhoIsJohnGaltt Yeah and they did the cute thing of making it take place in the time period of OP Flash so that they can put up a front that they are "honoring the franchise" or "returning to our roots" when they are really just diluting it. I would love to be wrong but I am nearly 100% certain Arma 4 will have no editor and the kino PVP, PvE, and PvPvE milsim scenarios that we knew and loved through 1, 2, and 3 will be long behind us.

this game has really consolified arma and its depressing
