I love this! Lots has changed in amateur radio but so much hasn't as well. My radio is from 1989 and I can talk to radios made this year and they work exactly the same even though the new radio is software based. The etiquette is still the same as well.
Anybody remember "Tune in the World with Ham Radio" put out by ARRL? The book and the code practice tape package from the mid-'70's. That's what I used...plus my 1974 ARRL hand book(which I still have) to get my novice ticket in '77 when I was 14. Lots of changes since then...man oh man! I've haven't seen this video until now...not bad! 73, K9ALT
According to WA6ITF, Kelly N6PNY was about 15 at the time so that would put this around 1986 when it was recorded. The video says it was released 14 September 1987.

Nice video but i had to laugh at 6 minutes and 21 seconds in where the orator is saying there are German hams Japanese hams Chinese hams Indian hams then English hams .there at 6.21 it shows a video of a Welsh amateur radio station from Wales not (ENGLAND) the call was GW6GW a club call from BLACKWOOD & DISTRICT AMATEUR RADIO SOCIETY Oakdale, Blackwood. Wales . not England ;)
When they told me on the air "Welcome to Amateur Radio" I told them I had been into Ham Radio for years. Now I have my own call sign instead of getting them out of that cool book I stole from the library LOL
I don't understand the joke that made yourself laugh out loud. If it was a joke. Are you trying to say that you'd been using someone else's call sign for years until you finally decided to take the test?
@@624radicalham - No sense of humor You would not believe how many humorless aholes there are running around. You seem like a nice guy. Don't tell me they got to you too :) Triggered much? Or better yet, Trolled much?
I just don't agree with the statement that it's not a hobby and it's a service. A former president of the Radio Amateur Canada also said the same thing at a local meeting about 15 years ago. Turned me off so much that i didn't want to join the RAC.

NOT A PRODUCTION DATE ANYWHERE IN SIGHT ! Yes, I did FINALLY catch the production date. I'm slow on the up-take.
No copyright date of production. I estimate it to be 1987-1988 judging from hints in the content.

Hairstyles indicate it's from 1987, so does Barry Goldwater's age.
Well done video, and much of it holds true today.

Today I learned that stuff I was doing in 1966 is a "new world". Strange, it wasn't new then...

The English "ham" is actually Welsh lol.
I'm more of a bacon "operator" myself... 😏
