"what3words" may be simpler to share, because it consists of just three words ( _duh_ ), but Googles approach has a much better system and some logic behind it. For example you can tell that "87G8+M2" is right next to "87G8+M3" or that both of them are in the same bigger sector "87G8" allowing the possibility for wildcards to address whole regions, e.g. send alerts to every address starting with "87*" because of an environmental crisis . what3words just assigned random words to every 3m^2 without any logic. "hello.test.comment" and "hello.test.command" could be right next to each other or thousands of kilometres apart.

And of course I looked these 2 up: "hello.test.comment" is near Hailun, China, while "hello.test.command" is in Stará Ľubovňa, Slovakia - so yeah, pretty far :D
I believe it's deliberate that they make sure it's far away, so less likely you get the wrong address. If you in country A going to a destination within the country (barn.table.yard) and put in bard.table.yard that is in country B, you are sure it's the wrong address
In an emergency or postal it could make a big difference. W3w also mentioned it's for privacy as well
Either way, I'm all for addresses for all in any shape or form

Furthermore Plus Code is much better because, other then W3W, it´s, among other things, offline usable, printable and free and open source.
What if I live in a block of flats?
. It’s clear that plus code algorithm must include the name of city such as pune as mentioned in the above video at 1:12 minutes . Plus code as mentioned in this video at GVQF+CC Pune includes name of nearest city Pune . In case I search only GVQF+CC then the place changes anywhere far from Pune !
2. Can +code be used freely in any advertisement to pinpoint specific location of business house ?
Sorry but I don't understand. If I search "GVQF+CC" in Italy, the result refers to 45.53856342604615, 8.873564580973145. But if I search "GVQF+CC, Pune" the result refers to 18.53856088558163, 73.87356324030297. So if I search "GVQF+CC, New York", the result is 40.538546172092865, -74.12643750189231. Then I suppose there are missing value and I try a cde found in project home page "7muc686r+w5qm", but Google Maps don't give me any results. I analyze the possible problem: for Pune isn't correct search only GVQF+CC, but you must search 7JCMGVQF+CC, and for Italy 8FQCGVQF+CC. Here's how your location searches could have gone wrong. The codes can be written in up to 4 ways: 8+2 or 8+3 (AABBCCDD+EE[F]) as well as 4+2 or 4+3 Location (delete the 4 leading characters or "area code" and replace them with a trailing locality) You were writing them in 4+2 form, but they returned the wrong location.

@@Xapheus Exactly, or your location in the plus code will be in the wrong square degree- what I think happened was it applied the same square degree (that's actually the granularity of the area code) as your current location!

I think this is useful if your doing construction and there aren't really roads or streets built yet. Also does these plus codes work outside of google maps?
Yes, it's supported by other applications.
I have mixed feelings on plus codes. UTM never really caught on, likely due to its long-complicated system, but I like that you can tell exactly how far away one spot was from another easily in meters (N & E). Lat Long decimal is a bit long and also is only minimally used as it is too long to use verbally, but is easy with a cut and paste system, but it suffers from no easy way to know how far one item is from another. Most of these suffer from being point vs area based, so that is a feature/limitation difference from plus codes and what3words. What3words suffers from language issues and dyslexia, with no thought to how far one set of places and words are from another.
So far, I see poor translation and adoption of tools to plus codes. I don’t see grid layers even on Google maps (I think it is on G earth). I don’t see the fully qualified address (8+2 or 8+3 or 8+4) on or available on the map. In general, one needs to use the city and state in the US plus the 4+2 code to get the address right. I am fine with having the option of city added to a 4+2 code, but where is the full code listed? Since the first 4 digits won’t be changing much when driving around your city, you would quickly learn them. Where are the converters back and forth to L-L D,D or DMS, DMS? What happens at boundaries of areas? There are always boundaries. Will one small area right next to another look like it is a long way away over the boarder of the first significant digit? This is likely less noticeable and why they shorten it to 4+2 plus city and state.
Knowing how far apart two codes are is an important thing to me. Since they skip a lot of numbers and letters, I don’t know how far apart “9” is from “C” etc. I want a universal system to find address, doors to buildings but also to trail heads in the wilderness.
So far, we are almost exclusively talking about 2D addresses, which seems limiting for a modern re-write to a GPS location system reporting. Why not have an elevation variable for apartments above other apartments, or dozens of other reasons to a location to be on top of another, but not the same. Is there a facility in the system for this that has not been implemented, or will we need yet another system?
With all these systems, where are the converters? I can convert any engineering unit to any other all day, but I struggle to convert GPS location systems due to lack of simple GUI tools.
Atleast cutting and pasting these 7 character codes is easier rather than pasting the entire Latitude and Longitude

Go to Google maps, search for a place the plus code will be already available.
It's taken me a while to find this much! that's saying something about it.Ok the idea is fine: great for the underworld to pinpoint a non-address to someone almost like a code ( could even be coded and who would know? BigBro aiding the schemers.

Do we need to provide City name also?
It depends on whether you want to include the entire code. It's only if you write the code in 4+2 (AABB+CC) or 4+3 (AABB+CCD) form that you need to include a city.

But even the plus code will be very hard to memorise.
True- this recasts regular coords in the style of a phone number, so that's easier to memorize.

Try to type the name of nearest town. Then only you will get the exact location.

Edit: aand the answer is in the series. The 4+2 is just the local part of the code (of which there are ...many? hence the need for nearest town), the full and unique Plus code is 8+2 or even 8+4 for added precision.
