I was present at Covent Garden when this opera was actually recorded, Te Kanawa and Domingo were so emotionally convincing, especially in this final act, they really were Manon and des grieux, it inspired me to read the novel "Manon Lescaut" by Abbe Prevost!
I too have both heard and the last ackte was my body full of goose bumps. So sung emotionally and with smartness. Never seen better than this performance in London ... The first time I saw and heard Manon was in The Hague and became my favorite opera by Puccinni.

Los dos cantan maravillosamente
Formaban una pareja increíble. Aquí lo demuestran como también en la mítica grabación que tienen de La Rondine o en el Simón Bocanegra que sigue siendo de referencia. Ambos cantaban y actuaban como pocos entonces y ahora. Y siguen siendo buenos amigos.

se dice que Kiri estaba enferma en esta presentación y por ello el high C de Placido es tan clarito, tuvo que esforzarse por los dos ya que la soprano no estaba en gran forma para las notas altas

This is one of the few C's he manages to hit regularly

And with Puccini the Mental Giant that he was anything goes.Tekanawa look the part but vocally and artistically she was inept the poor dear. Such a beautiful lyrical voice ventured Beyond towards the end of her career. Only the Royal opera house would do this for DAME KIRI. 😢🎶🎵🎼
