Fantastic! Great job breaking down a very elusive but hypnotic Magic Sam groove. For players who haven't seen it, there is an incredible and very rare B&W video clip of Sam playing this live. I've spent hours trying to figure it out, but never quite gotten it. Thanks to David for cracking the code and so generously sharing it!
Whatever Sam was doing with his alternating bass is great, but for me, your groove with the assertive pop is always impeccable. Just getting better and better. Thanks.
When you're explaining the lick you're not sure where the thumb goes-you think maybe the open A. But when you're grooving on autopilot your thumb actually goes to the low open E. And it sounds great. Good tension with the C and leads nicely back to the A. Good stuff. Thanks
This is a fantastic channel. You have shared a BUNCH of top-notch content, and even when I already know some of the licks, it helps to see them executed so tastefully. Thanks!
I must have watched that clip 150 times! Just fantastic and you actually showed some of this lick in one of your Truefire courses I purchased a while ago. Thanks a lot.
Always loved that one - such a cool groove. That's pure Delta blues to me (or probably more like Hill Country...). How could anybody not move their feet on a hot Saturday night at the juke joint? It's one of those things I can get hypnotized playing it myself like a J.L.Hooker groove or something by Fred McDowell - you just don't want to stop..... Thanks for reminding me of this, haven't thought about it in a long time.
Great lesson David, i cant believe i had that down in like 5 mins, i think i must have improved another level and it feels really good when that happens ..

You are an amazing player, which happens. But you are an amazing player who is an amazing teacher, & that rarely happens. Bless you.

Sam gets a great, raunchy tone on that live performance!
Ha!! Talk about learning how to walk and chew bubblegum (whilst juggling your keys!!) at the same time!! Very cool groove, D.H.!! Jim C.
Is this showing us a Magic Sam musical tool or that magic's a musical tool ? Go on David have a groan on me and, nice to have you around.
Great lesson! I think there is a "mistake" in the tab (measures 4 and 8): e in the bass?
