Another overlooked feature is that it has the OG Vinyl Sim that was on the SP-303 (used by Madlib and J Dilla). So If you want that sound but don't want to spend $500 for a 303 just get a 404 OG for like half the price! Sadly, the Vinyl Sim on the SX was completely reworked and not the same at all :(
Thank you for the comment! It's true what they say "You learn something new every day." I'm so grateful to my audience members who watch with a careful eye🎐
This is neat, I never owned an SP-404 classic. I started with the SP-202 (ouch) in 2019, couldn't make much with it because I found it tedious, but it helped me a lot when I started using the SP-303 because the features became more intuitive. I think the 303 has the same simplicity and accessible manual that you describe, but it doesn't have the built-in mic, requires a power cable to operare and it uses fairly unreliable SM cards. Regardless, I use it much more than my 404A, partly because the pads have a better tactile feel, and the reverse function is better for performing and chopping, I think that makes up for many of the missing features.
Me neither. I guess you'll just have to resample. The manual says this though: "When you use a computer or other device to copy or save an audio file (WAV/AIFF) onto a memory card, you must place the file in the root folder (top level) of the memory card. If the file is placed anywhere else on the card, you won't be able to import it into the SP-404." That means that it actually is possible to copy a sample to another pad but not like you had in mind. You have to use a computer and a card-reader which is something that makes your flow go up in smoke. But if it's absolutely necessary for you that you have two samples of which you are 100% sure that they're 100% identical, then this should be good news.
I've been wanting to do this video for such a long time! It would be an amazing reference for the future, for sure. Planning to get around to do it here soon. Thanks for mentioning🎐
1. The manual: You're comparing the manual of Logic with its >1000 pages with the manual of the SP404OG with its 56 pages and calling it a reason for standing out? I mean, sure it stands out. In its lack of capabilities that is. Especially compared to Logic. So the manual is compact because of the limited capabilities and therefore doesn't require a lengthy manual. 2. Size & portability: They're about the same size as the other SPs. You know that I never understood why people go play with these things outside? 3. Simplistic design: Sure, it has the most simplistic design of the whole series. So I agree with you on this one. 4. Built-in Mic: This is a sloppy mistake. I don't know about the MK2 but the SX and the A both have built-in mic and mic input. 5. CF-cards: They're slower, don't come with the machine, it can take months to find one that works because not every card will work. So yeah they stand out because they're the worst.
very good. cant wait to try one myself. very informative
Awesome! Share about it here when you do🎐
It also has a built-in memory which later models do not, so if you loose your flash card, you can still sample directly into this unit.
That's a really cool feature, thanks for mentioning it!
There's so many hidden gems in this little sampler🎐
You threw me thru loop for a sec was the 303 skin on that 404 😅 I used to have it on my OG404 too till I finally copped a real 303 then ripped it off

I've heard this from other producers as well! The SP-404 OG's vinyl sim adds so much warmth - it's essential.
Thanks for mentioning that point🎐
I have heard that if you turn on Effect Limiter, then the compressor on the SX becomes the same as the vinyl sim compressor on the OG
SX and A also have the built-in mic young lady...
Thank you for the comment!

Your videos are great! Where did your get your skin/faceplate for your 404?
Thank you so much🎐
I purchased the skin from: xpowersdesign.com
Hope it helps!

Thanks so much for the comment! I really hope to add the SP-303 to my collection some day. I heard the vinyl sim/compression sounds phenomenal🎐
Is there a way to copy a sample from one pad to another on the OG? I can't seem to find it in the manual.

Можно использовать функцию resample на назначенный пэд
