You've got soil that is rocky. I've got rocks that are soily. Seriously, it sure does make filling holes back in a challenge without nothing but rocks sitting on top. I had to dig almost 30 holes for the county before they would approve a septic system. That was fun trying to find enough dirt to cover up the holes after I pushed all the rocks back in.

We can relate. We have land that won't support a septic system because it's to rocky. Its admirable of you to have dug 30 holes to find a good spot!

@@GodsCountry What's admirable is that I didn't kill anyone. The agent gave me a soil map and said, "Here. This color on the map is good soil, you need to dig here. This other color is bad soil, don't dig here." I tried to explain where I knew, or at least thought was the best soil which fell in under the "bad soil" area of the map but they would have none of it.
Thirty holes later and they conceded that they had it backwards. DOH!

How do you know this is digging straight and level, is there some kind of indicator?

No indicator that I am aware of. It's just by eye.
