I did a bit of research. Poison dart frogs derive their toxicity from their diet. Because they have a different diet than their South American cousins, Hawaiian poison dart frogs are nowhere near as toxic. Captive bred poison dart frogs have no toxicity at all.
About time, I was going to cancel my platinum Patreon support. What a cool video to come back to the tubes. 100 yrs later someone will reference your video when viewing their own frogs there. Nice shots. Funny ending with Sherri dealing with the snake. Oakley?!?! What's next? Red Bull?
So you’re the one! Lol. The Oakley thing was sorta meant as a joke, although a lot of people are congratulating me! Maybe I need to him them up! When’s you next video dropping???
This video encompasses everything I want to see. Also any Dendrobates video is going to be good in my opinion! I didn’t know there was a colony of them in Hawaii!
That shot/transition at 3:55 was fantastic! Man those poison dart frogs are gorgeous, it’s a bummer they’re introduced and not native but still cool! Fantastically edited video, great stuff Lou it’s good to see a new video from ya!
Thanks so much. That transition wasn’t planned at all. Sorta happened when I started editing. I’ll do it better next time! Thanks for noticing!!! Lou B
Lou B you old dog! Where the hell have you been? We’ve missed ya! Those wee frogs are awesome. You got some good footage. The go pro footage was good because we could hear em vocalising which was super cool. Thanks for sharing your trip with us and don’t leave it so long next time buddy. We need some more herping videos.
Thanks for the support. It’s been too long. A lot of stuff going on. I’ll put out a video explaining it all later. Thanks for sticking with me. More in the works! Lou B
Only Lou flies to one of the few places on Earth without any native land herps... to find herps! Glad to see you getting a well deserved sponsor... and a cool one at that! Cheers!
Paradise - with mosquitos. That's a paradox, but part of nature's miracle. With mosquitos. Keep your eyes open for the big blue centipedes Super duper painful bite. I really loved hearing the sound the frogs make... Like a tiny "growl." Thanks Lou!!
Fun video Lou! That GoPro shot of the frog calling was awesome. Nice bromeliad transition as well, at first I thought that was your view after licking a 🐸 😜. Why didn’t you tell everyone about your hiking thong underwear for men sponsor? JT
Thanks so much. Don’t fly to Hawaii all that often. Lots of creatures on the list. Don’t have a particular spot in mind. Maybe another Costa Rica trip! Lou B
From what I always understood, Poison Dart Frogs get their poison from the prey that they eat. Which is why you can keep them as pets safely, because unless you feed them poisonous tropical bugs, they simply aren't poisonous. Meaning those introduced frogs in Hawaii might not actually be poisonous, depending on their diet. Very cool vid regardless, though.

Ya there’s Jackson’s chameleons and rock wallabies but the wallabies are almost never seen both you can find on Oahu, even the chameleons are fairly hard to find your going to need to do some research if you want to find them
Why didn’t you just catch them. This genus is harmless. Also, I would like more footage of Hawaiian ecosystems and other reptiles and amphibians that you could find there. It was too short. we want to get the feeling how the Pacific Island is like.

Yeah, I would have picked one up if I had the chance. My brother used to raise the blue ones. Not toxic at all.
Thats awesome, had no idea those were in Hawaii!
Thanks! Yeah, once I knew I had to find em! See you on the desert roads soon!!!

Those geckoes are gold dust day geckoes and yes they've been introduced like the dart frogs in this video.

Mosquitoes were unintentionally introduced to Hawaii by ships in the early days of contact.
What region did you find these frogs?
That makes sense. The Manoa Valley on Oahu.
Lou B
We're having a terrible issue with not only Bufo toads, but a type of non-indigenous toxic frog recently in FL that is killing our pets. Cool video.
Yeah, that seems to be the world we live in nowadays. Will be in Florida looking for snakes in May! Can't wait. Thanks! Lou B
@@loub747 what would you recommend?

Very cool. I wonder if they're still poisonous having a different diet to where they're natively found.
I don’t think they do. At least that’s what I’ve been told. Lou B
of all frogs in the world they had to release poison dart ones , lol
