I got it on sale on Amazon for $200 ($50 off). I agree it’s expensive, but I didn’t know when I bought my M2 MacBook Air that I’d ever need to use more than 1 external monitor. My work responsibilities increased and I kept wishing I had an additional monitor for better productivity. I saw this video and was excited to hear this was a possibility. There are other cheap dual HDMI adapters but they just mirror the external monitors due to lack of dual monitor support from the MacBook Air. This allows you to have up to 3 external monitors, not mirrored, but extended desktop. Plus it gives extra ports for fast charging devices and an Ethernet port. For $200 I’d say it’s worth it if you need the functionality. Much better than buying a new computer or dealing without. If it’s “too expensive” for you, you either don’t really need it or should purchase a cheaper computer. Just my opinion though. Thanks for the awesome recommendation Greg!
I finally purchased the silver base model after it went on sale with a $150US discount. I am really happy with it, I think it's the perfect travel/couch potato laptop. This is my first MBA, and it's the thinnest and lightest laptop I've ever owned. And no, don't get rid of the web cam! The notch is not an issue for me.
@@kelovthvamsi I don't do 4k video editing so I can't answer your question directly, but I can say the MBA wasn't designed to be that kind of workhorse. That's what the pro line is for.

@@SajiRai I just traded it in for the 15 inch air lol, but I had it in silver and it never got any noticeable scratches. I love midnight but don’t want to deal with the smudges and chipping of the paint like around the MagSafe port
I preordered it when it was announced. Also I use the company M1 Air as my work device. There aren't big differences between them but I love my M2 Air. Great performance, fresh design, mag safe, and it can do anything I want as a marketing and creative person.
I’m using the older M1 MacBook Air and the performance is still amazing on that thing. The hardest I work it is when editing 48mp raw images shot on my iPhone 14 Pro and it handles it beautifully, unlike my older Windows laptop that struggled and ran loud and hot!
Got a base model M2 Air Starlight and I have no regrets. I got mine at a huge discount (I paid £750 or US$925 approx.) so I can't really complain about anything at that price. In fact, even without the discount, I feel like I've got an excellent machine. I upgraded from a 2017 Pro with an 5th gen Intel Core i5. I decided to get an M2 over the M1 due to its more modern design with smaller bezels. More future-proof for me, as I'll have this for the next 5 years at least. Super fast, no issues with photo editing on Lightroom whatsoever. MagSafe is excellent. 1080p webcam is good. Perfectly acceptable for Zoom or Skype calls. The SSD read and write speeds are surprisingly quick, even for the base model. When I render and export photos en masse from Lightroom onto the SSD or my hard drive, it's very snappy. I tend to store all my actual media (photos, videos etc) on my hard drive or on iCloud, and use the built in storage for the installation of applications and the odd document. I have just over 50Gb left which I don't intend to use. Keeps the machine fresh. I was briefly tempted to get an iPad Pro and keep the older i5 Pro for a few more years but upon using the M2 Air I can confirm that would have been a catastrophically unwise decision to make. If I were to buy a 256Gb 12.9 inch iPad Pro, with an Apple Pencil, keyboard and case, that's already past the £1300 price point. Base model M2 Airs start at £1249 by comparison. Why would I pay more for a laptop-like 'experience' when I can pay less for an actual laptop, with all the functionality that comes with it? Especially with the monster discount I benefited from? I'd be gaining a touch screen but losing the raw functionality and wider app support of the Mac. M2 Air is good value for money, even when compared to the M1. Newer chip, better webcam and modern design make it worth the extra cash.
5:41 not everyone that has a MacBook has an iPhone along with it, so prolly not the best idea to get rid of it (it's also handy to just have one built in anyways, so I would still like a webcam even if I have an iPhone haha)
Keep the built in camera because if you put it on top of the laptop, you run the chance of making the hinges on the MacBook loose due to the weight of the phone
Love your reviews in general. Not all users need more then one external display.... I do myself use two external displays with my M1 and M2 air, and use a display link based dock. I know you have to feature your sponsor, but you don't have say its the only/best choice since it does not support dual 4K displays at 60hz. Most docks that do have both dual HDMI and dual display port so you have your choice of connections. That said and I am sure you aware most users who want to drive two displays can use one native USB-C port for best clam shell/closed lid experience and one driven by the USB-C dock and have external KB and mouse etc. Last point of note is when searching for USB-C docks some would be best served by USB-C docks that offer 10Gbs throughput instead of the more common 5Gbs.
I got the 13.6 inch M2 MacBook Air in the Silver color. This is my first laptop, and I love it, very user friendly. I upgraded with 16 gigs of ram memory, and 512 SSD storage, but kept the 8core GPU. I'm a longtime Windows desktop user since 1999 with Windows 98. My last Dell desktop had Windows 7 Pro with 2T hard drive, cause I had a website, building webpages. That's why I knew to upgrade my ram and storage, especially for future proofing. I want to be able to keep this for a number of years, like I did with my first Dell for 10 years. After my Mac class at the Soho Apple Store in NYC, I checked out the 15 inch Air, was not that impressed. The screen resolution wasn't any better than the 13.6 Air. I had them put Beach Boys "Wouldn't It Be Nice" to check out sound. It was louder, but not much better than 13.6 Air. Another thing I liked, way lighter than the 15 inch. I put the Air in my crossbody laptop briefcase, and was able to walk around NYC without any strain on my shoulders. If you're a student or teacher lugging a laptop back and forth to school, very portable. I'm so glad I'm not stuck to a desk anymore. I can sit in my couch with my legs up on my chaise, with laptop on my lap. I really recommend if you are going to spend the money for a good computer, spend a little bit extra to upgrade to 16 gigs of ram, and 512 SSD storage. You will be grateful in the long run. Allot of the videos in here said not much difference between 8C GPU and 10 so, save money on that. Another thing, as a former longtime Windows user, I found out, don't shut Mac down, put it in sleep mode. I'm so used to shutting my Windows desktop down, before bed. I've had this laptop just over 4 weeks, and I'm liking it. Real test will be months from now. Great video, it really helps us choose the right laptop. That's why I chose a MacBook over Windows laptop, I can sink the Air to my iPhone 13 Pro. Also, didn't want the hassle of learning Windows 11.
it does show scratches easy. it also is easy to scratch as when I went to put it down on my counter top the bottom hit the counter and a piece of dust scratched it.
I’m using the Plugable USB 3.0 and USB-C Dual 4K Display Docking Station with DisplayPort and HDMI with my M2 MacBook Air. It handles two 60Hz 4K displays. I think the webcam is still a must for laptops.
I’m looking into picking up a refurb but between my M1 iPad Pro. My 14 Pro Max. And my PC setup. I’m having a really hard time getting past buying something with a 60hz display in this day and age. Like, I don’t need the performance of a MacBook Pro. But my eyes have been used to modern day refresh rates for so long. And before anyone hits me with high refresh rates only being good for gaming. No. Smooth animations and especially cursor movement is so noticeable when you’ve gotten used to devices with upwards of 120hz.

Solid look back, but I ended up going with m1 air after having waited. I do like the looks of the m2, but functionally, I didn’t see enough to justify the few hundred extra dollars (the large sales prices for m1 base). I don’t think I would have regretted the m2, but with everything else in the world, I don’t think they marketed well
@@rmcf3972 Given the years of support that Apple provides for their products, I felt that the risk was worth the significant savings. I would never buy an m2 air. If I needed the extra power, I would buy a 14 inch MacBook Pro for $1599
Im going in to highschool in europe and here having a laptop for school is essential and im torn between quality and comfortability of the mac or power and preformance of a gaming windows laptop, any suggestions?

So, I bought the midnight and frankly after 30 days I couldn't be happier. The issue of fingerprints is over blown. I clean my glasses daily so with my handy microfibre lying about a quick go over the case cover and track pad and palm rests its not a big deal that many would have you believe. I did upgrade the ram to 16gb and am I glad I did as basic usage seems suck up 6gb so when I have plenty of tabs open (WORD, EXCEL, JSTOR, Google, Firefox, tonnes of pdf's etc - I'm a PhD student if that helps) there is about 8gb RAM left. Daily temps after say 5-7 hours run at 34c and memory swap is minimal CPU load about 10-12%. The fact that this is so light portable and I went from a MBP 16 2020 model to this I've adjusted - you cannot go wrong. I'm a basic user no games, programming, editing, videos. I write a lot. I run the brightness at 50%-60% the battery lasts 9 hours on average depending if I am charging my phone of the USB C port. Hope this helps someone.
I love the midnight colour of my base M2 Air. I wash my hands to limit the oils transferring from my hands, and use my trusty microfibre cloth to wipe any prints that still end up on it.

i have a midnight m2 with 1tb drive and 16gb ram.. most beautiful and awesome computer i've ever owned. of course these should come with built-in webcams, not including a cam on a laptop in this day and age is ridiculous
No. . . I’m not going to hang my phone from my screen. . . In the middle of a conference call and then the picture goes crazy because I had to replay to a quick text and now everyone is distracted by it? No, the camera needs to stay on the laptop. 1080p is plenty for suck. We aren’t making movies or editing photos from this camera. It’s a functional part, not a selling point part.
Apple SHOULD NOT release a non-webcam MacBook. Assuming someone will always have a compatible phone, and that it's always ready for use is a step too far. The laptop needs to be a fully featured unit.
I can't imagine having less than 512gb of storage, and I purchased 16gb of Ram, which I believe is the sweet spot. so, I did make a decision to pay for the Apple Upgrade, but I got the computer that I wanted. I still don't think I needed the 14" Pro.
5-6 months is too late to purchase a new laptop unless someone really needs one right now. I will waite few more month for the 2023 model. Beautiful Final Fantasy 7 Tshirt by the way. I have one too and I am a big fan of the series too.
i think, apple is gonna turn the M1 MBA into the base "Macbook", like they did with the base model iPad, and just keep on using the old body and a previous gen processor, but sell it for like 400$ less. So when the M3 MBA comes out, apple will just put the M2 processor into the current M1 MBA body, but sell it for 800$ instead of the 1300$. Just like the iPad, i don't think most people will shy away from an older body if it can still do what they want it to do - consume media like YT or browse the web. That's why i think apple didnt discontinue the M1 MBA - it's all part of their plan to get a broader Macbook lineup that starts cheaper.
This laptop is designed for the casual user. Any power user would never consider purchasing this laptop. I'm puzzle why so many have complained about the heavy/long tasks when that is not what it is designed for. Plus, the midnight color is fantastic!
I bought this as a leisure time laptop (I have a 2021 16 inch MacBook Pro for work) is the screen refresh rate. It is so obviously lower quality after switching from the pro. But hey, I made a budget decision and this is the downgrade.
Just have a 1080P "Water Drop Webcam" just like that of a front facing camera on a Samsung phone, it'll be perfect! But, again, Apple needs to sell more of their products...
The anker sponsor feels really disingenuous. One 2k 60hz and one 4k 30hz does not *solve* the problem of multiple displays on this MacBook. 30hz is so bad to use that you'd be better of going with another 1080p60. And 1080 on monitors is not a good looking resolution I'm sorry. My intel MacBook can output to my 4k60 and 1440p240 monitors at the same time just fine. The Anker dock may give you the ability to use multiple monitors, but it doesnt solve the issue at all
I doubt they would ever get rid of the webcam, but I mean I could live without it. I rarely use the webcam. I do attend Zoom meetings sometimes, but it's usually from my work PC. I'd be fine with giving up the webcam so we don't have to have a notch anymore.
The Air is a budget laptop with a premium price. 10 minutes of work and it starts throttling. If you’re only browsing the internet and doing documents you don’t need to spend > $1000

I use my m2 base model Mac for school. I primarily use google chrome, word, excel and sometimes google sheets! It’s amazing! And more than enough. So it’s a good choice and will suit your needs
@@karynoghogho9302 did u get the 8gb unified memory? and whats ur ssd?
I returned my macbook air m2 because the macos font looked blury to me. Is anti- aliasing a thing in macos?
Solid look back, but I ended up going with m1 air after having waited. I do like the looks of the m2, but functionally, I didn’t see enough to justify the few hundred extra dollars (the large sales prices for m1 base). I don’t think I would have regretted the m2, but with everything else in the world, I don’t think they marketed well
Did you have to decide if m1 is already 2 years old but still bought it? I am planning also to buy the mba m1 but this is holding me back.
I don’t quite understand the evolutionary benefit of reducing the SSD write speeds by half. Is it a measure to cut costs, does this improve other sectors on the laptop?… what is it?
Does it have a lot of scratches especially around the usb c ports
I love the midnight colour of my base M2 Air. I wash my hands to limit the oils transferring from my hands, and use my trusty microfibre cloth to wipe any prints that still end up on it.
I am still using M1 MacBook Air and maybe will get something like M12 chip laptop in future... no rush.
You always don't think as you said multiple times but the truth is that M1 MBA have double SSD speed compared M2 MBA base model am I wrong or what?
Hello,
I am student of design and i´m about to buy new macbook for rendering and 3D modeling.
Would you recommend macbook air M2 16gb for me?
Or do you think macbook air m1 16 gb or macbook pro m1 13 with 16 gb will be better option?
I am only a student so i do not have buget for macbook pro 14.
Thanks a lot.
m1 16 gb
Thanks for your review of that Anker dock. I can use that.
Got the M1 max custom config last week and they dropped this, so returned and got myself a m2 max!! Lets see how it goes
Definitely want the webcam on the display, not separate.
How's the 4k video editing performance?
6:16 The idea of using the iPhone as a call camera is excellent, but what if you receive a call on the phone! Will the camera be disconnected?
I think people want to have a web cam on mac book, they want to play on their phone while they are "on a call."
How come my working ram craps out on final cut pro? I have a mac book pro m1 chip 16gb 500 hd
£250 for *'The Anker Triple Display Hub',* at that price you are getting close to purchasing an ultra-wide curved display _[if the M1/M2 will support one]._
Thanks for the great video! I was considering to get a macbook air m2
Thank god for fast forward! Yall love sneaking those annoying ads in
KEEP the webcam! One less thing to forget or interface
So I’m safe with this option as my first MacBook being used just for personal use like social media, messaging, FaceTime, emails, etc… awesome!
Yes.
How is it when using large complex excel files?
I would still want the camera in the MacBook…i might be texting on my phone during a zoom meeting….or looking something up..
i have a midnight m2 with 1tb drive and 16gb ram.. most beautiful and awesome computer i've ever owned. of course these should come with built-in webcams, not including a cam on a laptop in this day and age is ridiculous
It does not come with a webcam?
The M2 has a webcam, are you sure about what you bought?
@@MiningForPies in the video he asks if webcams on laptops are still neecessary that is what i was responding to
@@markslima1557 ah I see, I read it as one long sentence 😂
I'm emulating switch games at 60 fps on the base model and it gets warm at best in cool room temperatures. the m2 processor is a beast.
On the camera topic, Apple should just use quality cameras on the laptops.
How would you say the brightness is for watching movies and shows when indoors?
it can burn ur eyes indoors
No. .
Apple can get rid of the webcam and I can use my iPhone, get rid of the notch and make it full screen. I’m all for it!
I will never understand how USB hubs can cost so much
It is interesting to watch M2 owners justifying their purchase over M1, which was basically cosmetic redesign with minor tweaks hardware wise
I like how the m2 air is flat. Aesthetically it looks better to me.
well the second display will only support 30 Hz even with Anker ... that kinda sucks
You most definitely want a webcam built in since you don’t always have your phone or you use android or something like that
Great review! Thank you!
5-6 months is too late to purchase a new laptop unless someone really needs one right now. I will waite few more month for the 2023 model. Beautiful Final Fantasy 7 Tshirt by the way. I have one too and I am a big fan of the series too.
Apple now 18-month cycle, so 6 months is not too late, as the next Air is likely Q1/2024.
No way I’m using a monitor at 30Hz. Especially side by side with 60Hz. That is stuff of insanity!
me watching on my M2 Air
Good things come to those whom wait :). Still using a 2018 Macbook Air it is good for my needs and is built like a laptop and NOT an iPad :(
i think, apple is gonna turn the M1 MBA into the base "Macbook", like they did with the base model iPad, and just keep on using the old body and a previous gen processor, but sell it for like 400$ less.
Subscribed just because of the goofy charging bit 😅😂
It is A great laptop
Who would use it for heavy long tasks
I guess I could use mine for heavy long tasks but that isn't what it's designed for so I use my Studio Max for those jobs.
Best review I’ve seen on the m2 air
Just have a 1080P "Water Drop Webcam" just like that of a front facing camera on a Samsung phone, it'll be perfect! But, again, Apple needs to sell more of their products...
most MacBook users dont have an iPhone. So no, they should not drop the camera
Which color would be least prone to paint chipping?
Silver, because that’s the underlying color of the metal. Any coloration done would be on top of a silver chassis.
sliver

Great video!
The Anker dock may give you the ability to use multiple monitors, but it doesnt solve the issue at all
Not everyone use i phone.... 🙄 (HOW CAN YOU SAY COMPLETELY GET REED OF WEBCAM)
frikkin 256gb hdd space is a joke
I doubt they would ever get rid of the webcam, but I mean I could live without it. I rarely use the webcam. I do attend Zoom meetings sometimes, but it's usually from my work PC. I'd be fine with giving up the webcam so we don't have to have a notch anymore.
It’s apple… don’t doubt anything
I think iPadOS handled multitasking much better than macOS. Even stage manager is much better on iPadOS
Ewww. Reviewing Anker products right after the Eufy scandal
Get your mom an iPhone
We bought this cuz it folds! Lol
Was it ever the best laptop?

The Air is a budget laptop with a premium price. 10 minutes of work and it starts throttling.
If you’re only browsing the internet and doing documents you don’t need to spend > $1000
