and here am I, thinking I'm the coolest kid on the block whenever I ski something that is 45° in perfect condition. So much respect for these dudes on pushing the boundaries of what's possible!
Recently, i saw The Trollvegen (Troll Wall) in june and it's really impressive. But there's no word to describe the Kilian Jornet's performance in winter. Awesome !!!
Kilian made us stare at the Solomon logo on his helmet, skis, t-shirt, and at the bottom of the screen for almost 9 minutes LoL I now understand why is it called a Troll Wall :)
Except for the two places where its actually wide enough to make a turn this doesn't really look like skiing to me. Where do you draw the line between skiing and downclimbing with skis on so you can say you skied it. Nevertheless great achievement and Kilian is an exceptional athlete
Yeah, I don't know how to feel about this video. I get that it's an amazing achievement, but I don't consider that to be skiing. I'm not belittling the guys accomplishment. It's pretty crazy to do it, let alone on skis, but I just can't call this skiing. Props to this nutjob for having the balls to do it though. Respect.
@@dethwisper yeah the skis literally do nothing for this, they don't add security, they don't save energy or add speed. They're just a liability, just downclimbing with crampons on would take less effort and time. Cant even really say you skied it so much as say that on the way down you wore skis for no particular reason. I've seen a number a couloirs done in similar fashion and can't say I see the appeal.

I am a big fan of yours Killian, especially your love for nature and for being outside respecting nature and I believe deep in my heart that you should search within the deepest part of you if there is another way to evolve besides making just another incredible dangerous thing. I have been through the same road you're on, not so dangerous of course but honestly it looked to me that next time you could do that descent with the hands behind your back or with clown shoes just to increase difficulty. Sorry for the opinion and thanks for the inspiration in so many things.
Well if he had gone over the other side of the troll wall he wouldve been going a lot faster....and needed a parachute to boot. Love killians stuff. In age of mobile phones he is out there livin it
My uncle and his friends climbed the troll wall in the winter 20 years ago. At the top they got chaught by a avalanche and they fell from the top to the bottom. My uncle and one off his friends survived, but too off his friends died that day. The trollwall is a wall that is extremly risky to climb. And its such a sight to see in person. Hope that people that climb this wall are carefule.
oh man that's so otherworldly unimaginable. What sheer steepness and in part really icy ! Deep bow in front of this epic achievement. Is this the most difficult ski descent on the planet (because of the brutal combination of length, steepness and technical challenges)?
That's some crazy stuff there Kilian, happy you got out of it alive! Maybe it's time to retire soon-ish and just live a happy life in the Norwegian mountains?
@@Cactar8 my guess is because he's paid to do extreme shit in order for Solomon to pay him. Also, I've got a feeling he may be insane because in the videos where he does this kind of nonsense he is never with a partner

Super impressive but not that aesthetic / appealing for me. Downclimbing ice with skis on is kind of like drytooling in summer - sure it can be really hard but meh.

Technically he's on skis on snow, but yeah give me powder and trees any day. That no hands hand switch whilst standing on an ice crag wearing skis, f that!!!
Hmmm i don‘t get the point. I see that this is physicaly demanding, more then the best of the average can bring, but that is not skiing, it was climbing up and mostly climbing down on skis. Sorry
After Travis Rice rode and Cody Townsend skied that crack in Alaska, I’m just not impressed by this kind of trek anymore. I know, I know Ice and so many other perils that make it difficult but still.
I’ve skied for 48 years now, I watch all the alpine content. I’m a fan , but that wasn’t skiing, that was just survival with skis on. I don’t get it but I think it does convey the line to me. I am not interested in attempting anything like troll wall!! In fact I think I enjoy skiing, you know fluid smooth turns, trees, park style, pow days , light and fun touring... but not this corner of alpine danger!
if its too steep to make turns down its not really being skiied in my opinion. its quite an impressive feat but i think its hard to call it skiing when you have to sidestep, repel, and jumpturn your way down. id just call it ski climbing or somthing
Actually he is not really skiing... not that is possible but he is not doing it either. Just surviving. Which is incredible by the way, giving the conditions he is in.
When skill overcomes insanity... I was gripped for you Kilian! Bravo!!!

7:33 That part is really scary! Poor ice for the axes and icy for the skis. Good that he takes his time.

Thanks for the subtitles for all of us single language speaking Americans....
Gave me shivers all the way and then film ends like that haha. What a legend
That was the gnarliest thing I've ever seen. Ima just keep skiing pow, myself.
You got hikers, climbers and basejumpers on the troll wall...and this crazy dude!! Yolo!!
I'm big fan of Kilian since I red his first book. Now running to be like him one day :)

I was on a 60 degree Schlepplift (T-bar lift) last weekend and it made my legs wobble. I felt it was an accomplishment.
That must have been 60%, not degrees. Thats still very steep for a schlepplift though.

What a line! Insane to most of people but makeable for Kilian. I hope I will develope in the direction of that kind of skill. Stay alive;)
Those camera lens distortions make it hard to get a feel for the actual conditions. That said, kudos to Killian on another amazing feat!

The link that brought me here said there would be skiing? All I saw was side slipping and down climbing.
Bravo !
What a madman! So sick
At what point is this just down climbing with skis on?
What are the animal tracks up there? Unbelievable!
That was an incredible accomplishment. The video needs two things: subtitles and an ending.
It has subtitles 😊 check the settings
if you have to use the ice axes its not skying, its climbing with skies on the feet. without wanting to say it’s easy, of course its a performance!
there was zero skiing on this video. ski is flow. where is no flow, there is no skiing. so, zero accomplishment. only danger. who cares.

Even with crampons it looks scary ! But in steep ski there is a logic to keep ski "beyond reason" ... but reason is not the same to all of us...
Looks like a good day of skiing in New Hamapshire!
The video doesn't go much beyond that point, but I think they got him off the cliff with a helicopter or on foot.
Yes it is

Amazing how he skis such a steep mountain, walking is one thing skiing is another this cant be categorized as walking on skis

Actually, today the maximum steepness it is possible to ride is a full 70 degrees or 275% gradients. For a big surprice.
If I can't get to the top without ropes, I'm not going!
I admit the guys has balls of Hercules, but hey, let’s face it, this is not Skiing.
