Hearing how Greg found the title to his song, Melissa, reminds me a lot of how Carol Connors found a line to a different song, that was also terribly in need of finishing. And, that had her pouring over it, until she did. At least, that's what it said in an article I read somewhere, several decades ago. What she had so far was, "Come show me your kindness, "In your arms I know..." Somewhere in there is where it ended. Although she wanted to use the first part, it just wasn't working. I want to say that what happened was in a diner, a gas station, or a grocery store. It was a long time ago. Anyway, someone came up to the counter, maybe even pointed at some directions or a map, and said, "I need to find this. Find THIS". When her brain latched onto it, there it was. The rest of the line: "Come show me your kindness In your arms I know I'll find this". I don't know about anyone else, but, I consider it one of the most stirring and romantic stanzas of lyrics I've ever heard. When you hear the music and lyrics together, I think it sets a mood that's very clear. BTW, this comes from a frustrated song writer, who will never hear a piece of my music outside a few garage bands.
Last piece of new vinyl I ever bought was I’m no angel then they quit making albums I think a few new bands found the love of vinyl and put out albums and that’s great vinyl should never die just like Greg Allman should have never died none of the really great ones should

Allow me to correct you: The truck had already turned left and slowed due to the road ahead being quite pitted. Duane had not yet come into view for the truck driver then Duane came over the crest of the road and swerved to go behind the truck and went into a dip in the road and came out of it airborne. He never hit the truck and the driver never saw him until after the motorcycle landed on Duane. The driver was never charged with any infraction and had no idea who the Allman Brothers were. The driver also 27 years old.

I'd love to hear that story.
@@Simone-qd1bv I'll type it all up sometime soon. Nothing earth-shattering but kinda revealing in some ways.
@@Zapheteroped Hey! Thanks for even thinking of doing that. I always wonder how people that are famous behave in real life. Everyone has good and bad days, I know I do! 😊
Dang! Always loved Sweet Melissa. Now I know why. Might even cry
My favorite band from that era. They had balls! 🎶😎👍🏼
Loved his voice
The first concert I went to was the first concert After Deane died. I was twelve years old and we'd just moved to Macon Georgia.
It was before Barry died.
I won't ever forget it.
Berry's son was so short, small, and young that he couldn't be seen. That was The Best Solo drummer I've EVER heard. That little boy was Amazing and grew up to be a great musician in his own right but I'll never forget the little boy drummer!😪
First time I heard “One Way Out” as a teen, I thought “Wow, a black lead singer in a southern boys rock band”.
LOL from a white southern girl.
Fantastic 😅
I thought the same about Steve Winwood in a British rock and roll band.
Hearing how Greg found the title to his song, Melissa, reminds me a lot of how Carol Connors found a line to a different song, that was also terribly in need of finishing. And, that had her pouring over it, until she did.
At least, that's what it said in an article I read somewhere, several decades ago.
What she had so far was,
"Come show me your kindness,
"In your arms I know..."
Somewhere in there is where it ended.
Although she wanted to use the first part, it just wasn't working.
I want to say that what happened was in a diner, a gas station, or a grocery store. It was a long time ago.
Anyway, someone came up to the counter, maybe even pointed at some directions or a map, and said,
"I need to find this. Find THIS".
When her brain latched onto it, there it was. The rest of the line:
"Come show me your kindness
In your arms I know I'll find this".
Dayuuum... Wish i was at that show !!!
You can't name a better American blues band than the ABB. Phenomenal.
Last piece of new vinyl I ever bought was I’m no angel then they quit making albums I think a few new bands found the love of vinyl and put out albums and that’s great vinyl should never die just like Greg Allman should have never died none of the really great ones should
End of the line, live , best song ever.
😮i loved this man for all my life i would have done anything to touch his heart and look into those beautiful eyes every morning
Gregg, Yes amazingly Perfect..!!!
My all time favorite band! Seen them well over 50 times!
Great musician all around. His book tells the long story of him trying to get sober which he finally did. His songwriting and singing are just superb! And no slouch on organ or guitar! RIP Greg.
I've got one more silver dollar...always keep one with me.
Cool dude. Gifted.
I didn't know he was cross dominant -- left handed for writing, right handed for playing guitar.
Duane was too
5:16 - OMG, my heart is blowing up - is that actual Fillmore footage???? How much of that exists? Where do you find it?!
I also wonder about CSNY 4 Way Street, if it was captured.
And Derek & Dominos In Concert (no Duane, but that album...).
I’ve rode down Hillcrest Avenue so many times to this day. We walked thur Rosehill Cemetery back in October, when we were teens in the 70’s we’d sit on Elizabeth Reeds grave and smoke a dobbie but my best memory is meeting Gregg at a jam session at a home on Rocky Creek Road in Macon!!
IMHO he had the best voice ever. Saw him live in the early 2000s and he sounded as good as ever. Love that guy.
Gregg was, is and will FOREVER BE my first hero, giant and ROCK & BLUES GOD. Play me out, Bigboy. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I met him in Daytona beach at the Wreck bar. I was 14 they were playing there. Then I saw him yrs. Later at the bar in Richmond at theHyatt House ❤
Definitely the best rhythm and blues singer ever
Imagine Gregg as your dentist.
RIP 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Also Greg besides being a fantastic man and artist, he certainly aged well❤
Allow me to correct you: The truck had already turned left and slowed due to the road ahead being quite pitted.
May the Allman Brothers continue to rest in peace 🙏
The Allman Brothers Band was my first concert in Mobile Alabama.
