This is so cool! As an American of African descent, I have always respected and slightly envied people of other race and cultures who have the ability to stay connected and can speak their native language. S/O to your parents for instilling that in you from day one so that you have grown to appreciate and respect on your own! Thank you for taking us on your journey🙂🥃
Thanks that really means a lot. I took learning tagalog really seriously and i am glad to at least be able to be understood
You’re doing fine … your Tagalog is great . No worries I get every words that you say . Welcome to the Philippines .
I love it, your tagalog and accent is awesome and cute as well.
Hi Jaycation I’m so proud of you making a great effort to speak the Tagalog language in the PH! You’re so amazing! Keep it up!❤️🥰
So sweet! Momcation is the best.❤️
salamat nanay
Thank you for this prerecorded video, although I didn’t understand a word you were saying in Tagalog, thank you for including subtitles. I hope you have a great time in the Philippines.
Take care Jay Jay!❤️
Thank you!
I was smiling the whole time watching this, Jay!
I am very surprised how conversational your tagalog is. This is so cool to see! Very impressive!
Have fun, Jay! Stay safe! ❤
Kudos to you for trying! I was born in the Philippines but pretty much grew up in SD. I understand conversational Tagalog...my parents would speak to us in Tagalog at home. But I have it harder speaking...it's like I have to translate in my head what I'm trying to say. During one visit to the Philippines, I tried speaking Tagalog with my cousins but they just made fun of my American accent so now I'm self-conscious.
once i got over being self-conscious speaking, i was able to freely talk!
Wow, that was so cool. I really enjoyed hearing you speak Tagalog. Glad you got the T-shirt you wanted. 👍
thanks Bobble!
Grabe nakakaproud! 🫡🇵🇭
You did a great job! I'm half Filipino but born stateside with no Filipino spoken. I can only understand very basic Ilocano.
ilocano is great too!
I appreciate this video and you! Thank you! As a Filipino-American I envy those who speak and understand the language. I wish my parents were not so assimilated when they immigrated here. The only way I found my culture or heritage was through food. And it’s damn good food. Please keep on doing what you are doing! ❤
food is also a great way to connect with culture! thanks for the kind words
Jay your Tagalog is really thorough and clear ,
As an American of Filipino descent , I’m still embarrassed to speak Tagalog as it’s so broken
Jay you need to do more vlogs like this to encourage Us to use Our language daily 🤙🏼
Great job sticking with the Tagalog! My Tagalog is non-existent. 😆
haha it was difficult
Yo huge props doing this entire vid in Tagalog! I’m envious not being fluent in my mother’s tongue. Great video also!
thank you i appreciate that!
Hey Jay! We met once at Resorts World Las Vegas back in August at the food court. My family is from Manila! I go back often myself, but it’s been a couple years. Be sure to check out Intramuros for history, the Spiral buffet at the Sofitel, the Binondo / Chinatown food tour, the Ayala Center in Makati (Greenbelt and Glorietta centers), the Manila Bay area like the Mall of Asia and the casinos, and if you got time, go travel to Baguio and to Tagaytay, as both are a good alternative to the Manila heat. Pobalcion area of Makati is also happening and has a lot of bars and eateries. Get all your personal care stuff done as well around Manila: haircuts, massages, facials/skin care, etc. it’s way cheaper there than back in California. Have fun there, man! Will be following you over the next weeks!
nice meeting you! its super cheap here, i love it!
Wow!! You did a great job!!! You dont sound like you have an American accent. You actually sound like you’re just from a different province with a different dialect. Hopefully my kids would learn
haha thank you! i try!
That’s a great way to learn a language faster with this challenge. I was born in Manila, but left when I was a baby to live in SD. Never really learned to speak Tagalog, but understand enough to get the basics of a conversation. Tried speaking Tagalog to a coworker to make him feel at home, but he just made fun of me. So now I just speak English to him.
haha i have no shame so i speak it even if im wrong lol
Good on you! Since my parents passed over 10 years ago my spoken Tagalog (which wasn’t ever fluent, I was born in the UK) has weakened. Much admiration to you doing this and continuing to speak Tagalog when you’re out and about. I’m definitely trying to improve my Tagalog. As with all kids born in another country to immigrants, I understand Tagalog, I just can’t speak it fluently.
Your other video regarding spending time in Manila really resonated with me as I feel the same. My parents started taking me to the Philippines from the age of 2 as my older siblings were still there. I grew up with the Philippines being my home and the Makati malls and Greenhills being our regular stomping grounds. The street food, food courts, the big brown bag containing hot pandesal early in the morning, the amusement rides in the malls at night, the sounds, the smells, I remember them so well. My favourite mall was near where my brother lives which was Harrison Plaza. I knew I was home when I could smell the delicious food and heard the mall security tapping (what looked like) a wooden block to the Pasko music 🥰
Thank you this means a lot! I really want viewers to resonate as i feel its very important to continue trying to understand and experience your roots and culture. Speaking Tagalog is a challenge but i feel like ive improved through the years! Thanks for the kind words!
Ayos na ayos Pare Jayjay. Nakakaproud ka naman. GALING!
marameng salamat!
I think as Filipinos raised in the US speaking Tagalog was always hard because the relatives would be making fun lol. As i kid, it’s hard to wanna do that and it Just carries thru to adulthood.
haha darn those relatives!
Yeah we gotta change up that attitude in our Filipino community. It’s okay to make fun sometimes, but in the end we gotta help each other out. Filipinos can’t make fun of Filams for not speaking Tagalog but they’re not willing to help. On the flipside, filams gotta get over the nervousness and just go for it! 👍🏼 🇵🇭
Loved this video, Jay! Very impressed with your tagalog as I myself can only understand. Very inspirational!
Thanks that mean a lot!
Galing! You did better than I would pre!
haha thanks
I knew you’re a Filipino! 🇵🇭 I started watching your videos about Las Vegas since I will be in Vegas this weekend and at some point, I could tell that you’re my kababayan! Great videos by the way! Keep it up! 👍🏻
salamat kababayan!!
My family’s condo is above the 7eleven!! You make me want to go back .. great job on the tagalog! I tried not to read the captions lol AUSTEEEEEEN YOURE HEEEEEM!
YOURE HEEEM AUSTIEEEN
You done a great job at it. I myself sometimes can’t speak Chinese correctly but likewise, there’s always room to learn & improve
yup its all about learning and getting better!
Awesome!
thanks!
Hahaha! This is hilarious! It was fun watching this vlog. I appreciate the effort!
haha thank you!
You should do more of these videos! I was just in the Philippines last year, particularly Cebu. I didn’t realize that BGC is a nice place to stay at. The next time I plan to be back, I’ll definitely stay in BGC. 😊
Way 2 go jj!
salamat!
Love this Jay! Sounds like you got more comfortable at the end there. I wasn’t born in North America but I left the Philippines when I was a child, and i’m trying to speak more Tagalog as well. It’s interesting how you were using Spanish words in between, but overall you did great! Would love to see you chop it up with the locals in Tagalog, hope you enjoy the rest of your time there! Your videos are making me want to go back soon!
i think its because i lived with spanish-filipino roommates and got used to it haha
Nicely done sir! Appreciate the effort. Your tagalog is very good. More tagalog videos please. 👍
Nice! Hopefully you'll show us some of the casinos in Manila!
possibly!
Howzit Jay?! New subscriber here! As a fellow FilAm I get it - Tagalog is hard to speak when it’s only used at home. You spoke it well; I understood you. For me, Tagalog is more difficult because I was raised in a home that only spoke Ilocano!
i feel you! it took me years to be able to even try and speak it
Aw, so cute, at least you know how to speak in Tagalog in conversational level. I wish my Fil-Am son will learn to speak Tagalog like you.
Awesome job Jay! Proud of you man
Thanks dude!
Love everything about this! Bravo!
Thanks Dude!
Awesome job jay drop a like
yessit
No problem
So cute mo mag salita ng tagalog nakakatuwa at least you tried.
wow Galing!!! I I love this video so much when I step off my work computer I'll keep it on loop so you get the revenue. I know this wasn't easy but you inspired me to dust off my Tagalog books.
kumusta kuya jay! i'm a filipino american too! i understand tagalog fluently but only can speak semi-fluently haha. it's cool to watch this video and understand everything you said. love these videos, man. thank you and have a great time in the motherland!
thats awesome! Im glad u took the effort to learn and speak the language the best u can!
Nakaka miss yung maliliit na ice cream!! I almost typed in tagalog chat lingo. Lol

Hey brother, came across your channel. I’ve been living here in the Philippines for 4 years now originally from Los Angeles. I still don’t speak tagalog 😅
haha are you trying to learn?!
It’s more fun in the Philippines! I miss the Philippines already. Watching your blog from San Diego.
Shout out to SD! Thanks for watching
Hey Jay!!!! Just wanted to let you know that it takes a lot GUTS of what you're doing here! Speaking in our national language "TAGALOG" it is very HARD.
Keep Going Bruh! Mahalo 🤙🏽

Tagalog sounds difficult so these subtitles are more than welcome👍Thank you for sharing Jay 🙂👍!!!
What’s up Jari?😃
@@Firestorm055xNot much ,just chilln these days🙂Btw there were a few words on this video which sounds spanish that’s why i understood a few sentences lol😁
@@jarihult
Good for you Jari! But to be completely honest with you I didn’t understand a word Jay was saying! LOL Thank goodness he added subtitles.
@@Firestorm055x There were a few words in spanish like Bicicleta= Bicycle amd Camiseta= t- Shirt lol😁
theres a lot of related words in spanish and tagalog
This video brought me back to my Navy days...lol

Kudos to u Jay for All Tagalog! U did a great job. I’m half American/filipino and grew up half in both countries. Dad was navy. Lived in Coronado in early 60s when no Coronado bridge but had to take ferry. Enjoy all ur vlogs. Keep it up and enjoy rest of ur stay in pi!
I really appreciate that! Wow Coronado without the bridge!
Ah, I thought you were gonna talk to people there in Tagalog. I was interested to see you interact with them and how they reacted to your accent and mistakes. I learned Spanish as an adult and then I found out my uncle and grandma spoke it crazy weird and anglicized.
haha yeah one step at a time
Bro, except that 2/3 of the Philippines aren’t native Tagalog speakers, they had to learn it in school with English simultaneously and most prefer to use English which is much easier to learn.
Bro sounded like AI robot😂😂
Stopped by
thanks!
When will be your Cubao tour?
Itim!! Hindi n word 🤣🤣
i mix my spanish and tagalog up sometimes
Jay where is the translation of tangna pare? But it was so cute pare.
😂😂😂😂
LOL i was a mess
❤️❤️❤️🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🥇🥇🥇🏆🏆🏆🍻🍻🍻
Jay, which is harder, English or Tagalog?
i cant speak either correctly so both haha
AYOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS NYAAAA HA HA HA
ayos pare!
😃🔥
hi Amy!
@@Jaycation Hey! 👋
Look for a Caramia, try their Ube Ice Cream and Ube Cake. You’ll thank me later. 👍🏻
noted!
Kaboses mo na si Mekus Mekus
huh?
Another word for Black is "Itim" just incase you know. Lolz..
i always mix spanish and tagalog up
@@Jaycation lololz
Black is itim in Tagalog
im always mixing spanish and tagalog in my head lol
When i hear you say look at it in tagalog i kinda stop myself as i hear something else diff (i wont say here cause it’s spicy)
ang galing ah 👏🏻 mas ok na sabihin mo sa black is itim 🙂
haha confused ako kasi sa spanish and tagalog. im trying to learn spanish and mix my words up
it's the effort. 👍🏻 magaling, magaling
This was painful to watch 😂 my Tagalog is worst than yours so it’s all good haha
This was painful to read 🤪
I’m confused why why is this a challenge? You’re back in our country. You’re a Filipino. You should be able to speak our language. You should be happy and proud to be back in the home country speaking our native tongue. Why is this a challenge?
Collab @jaycation x @jayyhartmann lol.
