    I might or might not be mispronouncing the name Alnmouth through out this whole video, because nobody ever corrected me! I guess the locals are just too nice for that - another point for Alnmouth. Have you ever been to the Northumberland area? .)

      Alnmouth gets pronouced many ways but I believe the correct way is Aln-mouth or Allen-mouth. Although most people don't mind Aln-muth 🙂
      It's a wonderful area up here and I'm lucky to have moved to Alnwick earlier this year. Alnmouth is our local to take the dogs for a walk on and often treat ourselved to a School Yard Pizza. Glad you enjoyed your visit

    This was fun! I was on a Northern England and Yorkshire tour last Spring and Allnwick was our base for a few days. Everything about Alnwick was surprising. The castle and the gardens (those swings!) was intriguing and beautiful. The town and a great pub! And Barter Books was magical. Loved your whimsical video tour.

    Ok, last time after your videos I decided, that traveling around Scotland next year during summer is much better idea than go to the sea in Italy or elsewhere. Now I have to add also Alnwick to the wishlist. How am I supposed to do it in a week or two I am not sure. 😅 I am taking my dauther again too, we fell in love with Edinburgh on January, when we went there 😊

    • @franninchen
      @franninchen Год назад +1

      I was in Scotland 2 weeks this summer. Edinburgh, Inverness, Isle of Skye, Glasgow, Alnwick Castle and Bamburgh Castle saw it all. 😊 2 weeks is a good time to spend in Scotland with some daytrips. Going to Italy in October... much less crowded and the weather isn't that extremely hot anymore. Would recommend it this way! 😄

      @@zuzanadubravcova1307 after my trip I would skip Alnwick castle if I could do it all over again and would visit Stonehaven with Dunnottar castle instead. Starting in Edinburgh, Stonehaven, Inverness. A day trip there to Isle of skye and if it's possible one to Dunrobin castle and from Glasgow one into the Highlands. If you are not going with public transport and small tours and rent a car instead I would definitely go more of the beaten pass. 😅 But the small tours and train journeys were pretty easy and comfortable. Will go back next summer as well but this time as a solo traveller. 😊

      @@zuzanadubravcova1307 maybe look if you could make a Highland coo experience with her? There are farms that offer Safaris and so on where you even have the opportunities to cuddle with them. If she find them cute this might be a very special moment. Also camera obscura should be fun for her. For a child Alnwick castle is a good stop as it is catering to families. They can dress up there, "fly" on a broomstick and they have a small dragon thing there as well for kids. 😊

    I went there as well in August. I was really disappointed with Alnwick castle. It just didn't feel right for me. The castle has more of a theme park feeling almost like it isn't a real castle not sure how to describe it. I much prefered Bamburgh castle over it even it also has a connection as a tv show location. 😆 With all the lovely castles the UK and especially Scotland has to offer I would skip Alnwick for another one unless you really like to visit the garden. Also I think the entry fee for the Garden and the Castle are a bit too high for what you can see especially if you need to pay separately for something like the broomstick flying classes.

    • @Kakibot
      @Kakibot  Год назад

      Yeah I know what you mean - it's definitely a castle that has modelled itself into a "family experience", and the pricing reflects that. Personally I get quite excited about that whole "Ren Faire" vibe because as you said, Scotland doesn't really do it this way, and personally I appreciate a bit of variety! A spoiled child that has always lived surrounded by castles, haha.

    • @franninchen
      @franninchen Год назад

      @@Kakibot as a German we also have a ton of castles and take our ren fairs pretty seriously 😂 but I have to admit I am a nerd for old architecture and interior and love it much more when I really got the feeling of stepping into a different time period which I have to admit happens easily in Scotland. 😅 I miss this already again so much that I started planning a solo travel trip to Scotland again for next year. 😂 Your videos for sure will help for this also. 😊 Alnwick in the end is just a different vibe and when you know what you are getting into it might still be an amazing experience but otherwise it's just a bit disappointing.

      When I was 18, I got a job at a cafe where I was told to "come up with a daily soup recipe" every day. I still cringe over how bad my inexperienced inventions were, and the soup I got in this pub brought me right back to my tragic soup invention days 😂

    This has to be the oddest place I have ever been to …!
    Suppose to be where sections of the Harry Potter scenes were filmed. Also has a huge Castle and Gardens and suppose to have lots of quirky shops..!
    Why is this place like a morgę anytime after 6pm. There are absolutely no tourists anywhere. The castle opens a fraction of the house up and the Gardens are an extra cost ..! It’s so weird …!
    Also spoke to a few shop owners and they are selling up because literally nobody comes here. Whoever is marketing this town should be fired as it has loads of potential..!

  • @simonmountney

    It should go without saying, but Kat and I don't stand with, or in any way support the magic school terf writer. We wanted to make a video about Alnwick, but the town does have a close relationship with the filming of the magic orphan films. That's why we made the jokes, but don't mention it by name.
