      Actually barbie made another silicon tail mermaid. There were three of them, pink, yellow and maybe blue. I have the yellow one and yes it's the best mermaid tail ever. The line it's called mermaidia or fairytopia. The mermaidia one that you have probably it was the basic one, and then barbie made the other 3 silicon tail mermaids.
      I agree that the material it's too thin and fragile unfortunately.
      The other day I was looking for mermaid dolls and I found that Posey Reef has a torso joint like mermaze, but I don't know if another doll from great scarrier reef has it

    I really wish Mermaze hade more articulation in their tails, i dont mind them being permanent mermaids either but the fact we didnt get a stand ,maybe one that would make them look like they're swimming in the air, but have them standing on their fins is so weird to me 😭😭😭😭that aside they are pretty beautiful

    I’d love to see a transformable mermaid doll, but imagine that the tail is made similar to the silicone/rubber Polly pocket clothes. You could get a mold with a perfect fit, the intricate details of a plastic mold, and all the flexibility of a fabric one. Then have regular fabric fashions for the human version of the doll. 🤔

    • @xCanadensis
      @xCanadensis  2 года назад +9

      That’s kinda how the H2O tails are except that they’re not detailed

  • @e.d.t.
    @e.d.t. 2 года назад +62

    I prefer fabric tails, not because I prefer transformable mermaids, I just think plastic tails on playline often look too stiff. I like the floppy tail on the last doll. Sirena from Monster High I think is my favorite style for a mermaid doll in terms of her tail detail and fashion. I also liked Bratz Sea Stunnerz. I wanna see dolls that are more detailed than Dreamtopia or Ariel, but with fashion that makes more sense than Mermaze.

      I prefer fabric tales because you could pose them better I think cuz it's not just a hunk of plastic AND DAME SIERRNA so pretty I need her

    I wouldn’t mind the permanent tails on the Mermaze dolls if they were decently articulated. Not only can they not sit but they can’t all stand on the fin either. I saw another RUclipsr review Jordie from the line and she kept falling over when they tried to stand her up. So basically the tail feels like a hindrance when you try to pose them.

    100% agree with you! Mermaid fantasy (2002) is the blueprint of how you make a mermaid doll, and it’s insane to me how that didn’t become the norm for companies on how to make one. The only downside is the rubber being too thin and easy to tear but otherwise they are perfect, that tail really sells what it’s like to hold a fish tail in your hands. Btw there’s a mechanism on the doll that makes her tail flap back and forth when you squeeze her hips, kinda like what you were talking about with the fairy wings, it really sells the movement in my opinion.

    Mermaid fantasy barbie was not even part of my childhood but I believe that those are the best barbie mermaid line Mattel release ever!
    - I just love that her tail "flops" when you press her hips, I can't believe this doll exist because she's literally like a fish.

    for me the best way to do a mermaid doll would be to pull a monster high Djinni whisp moment with fully interchangeable legs/tail its the best of both and i may be wrong but that tail might have been articulated...chances are now that MGA made a move on mermaid dolls Mattel will have to counter to stay relevant

  • @StramSaturdayDBDBDIB

    Im excited about Mermaze Mermaids. I think if they become successful MGA will listen to the fans
    They will pull a Rainbow High and give us more articulation, more face molds and overall better quality. Look at the glow up Rainbow High had since series one when it became popular. The same thing can happen to Mermaze Mermaids

    I love the mermaid fantasy dolls! I think another reason that they don't make them anymore might be if water gets trapped in the tail it might get moldy. If they made the tail more waterproof, made the silicone more durable, & had articulated arms they would be perfect!

    My favourite mermaid doll would have to be one of my childhood dolls! I had the pink barbie fairytopia magical mermaid doll as a kid n she's my grail to find again one day! 🧜‍♀️ She's very similar to your mermaidia doll in terms of tail mechanism but they commonly rip where the joints are over time 🥲

    As a kid I LOVED mermaids. My favorite princess was Ariel and I wished I was a mermaid myself. Throughout the video I was thinking about my favorite mermaid doll. I played with her a lot, especially at the bathtub. She had beautiful long hair and her tail was great in general, made out of a material that allowed it to have great movement and also looked very nice. Then, when you showed the best mermaid I immediately recognized who she was. I had Kayla from that line and I agree with you a 100%. I also think is a shame that type of tail is not used often because is fantastic.

    I remember Moxie girls did mermaid dolls that were similar to the Barbie one, except they could swim on their own. And they were also double jointed, which meant they could bend their tails forwards and backwards like an actual fish.

    Have you ever heard of a doll named Little Miss Singing Mermaid? She was released by Mattel in the early 90’s; she has a molded tail (no joints, sadly) with a color-change element, she could be used in water, and and she sings when you squeeze her midsection! Now, she is a big baby doll as opposed to a Barbie-size doll, but she’s absolutely worth adding to your collection as a fellow mermaid lover. I got one of these as a little girl back in ‘91, and she still works after all these years!

    As a child of the 80s....my fave is gonna be Ariel of course. She is one of my favorite Disney pPrincesses. I've seen that movie so many times...love her. When I was a kid there was this underwater singing mermaid that had a color change tail...it was kind of the size of a Baby Alive. Loved that one. Right now I think my fave mermaids are the ones who have fabric tails and can change for fashion reasons. I also like sharing the Mermaid High tails and clothes with other doll lines such as Rainbow High. The color reveal mermaids are fun for water play and my daughter enjoys those.

    Gosh, LOVE me some mermaid dolls, but sadly they don't encompass as much of my collection as I would like. I was really excited when you showed off Peri and Pearl, they were my very first Monster High doll and the doll that got me to start collecting! It's funny, I actually just pulled them out of the bin for my shelf, since I'm reorganizing my display with a bunch of my favorite dolls as the theme since March is my birthday month (and extra fun coincidence, my birthday is International Mermaid Day, how wild is that!). I know a lot of people didn't like Great Scarrier Reef's dolls, but I love them so much, they're some of my favorites. Finnegan Wake from Monster High is also high on my list, he's a great character, love his doll. I will say, I also have a strange appreciation for the one merman Ken that was a part of Barbie Dreamtopia. I have him, even though I don't love the lack of articulation. 'Cause like, it was the first time I'd ever seen a merman doll, and that made me really happy. He's just so much fun, and I love the gents just as much as I love the ladies. Really should make a merman of my own someday. I've got a Heath Burns who came to me with his legs absolutely trashed, so he's probably gonna be my guy. That's the thing, I'm not super in love with a lot of the recent mermaids. Like Mermaze doesn't do it for me, at all, and Mermaid High is okay, but also not really what I want. I appreciate what both are trying to do, but I have yet to find a modern mermaid doll that hits the mark for me, the odds are I'll just have to make one myself if I want something specific.
    I will say, there was a very strange doll I used to have as a bath toy, and I don't know who made her, but she was an Ariel doll with a tail that was molded and fabric at the same time. Like, her tail was fabric and could be removed (to a point, it was attached at the bottom), but underneath it was this mound of plastic that was the same as the rest of the body and had a knee joint and then some kind of screw near the bottom fin. And then the bottom fin was kind of like a silicone material and translucent. The bottom part was a little floppy like the doll you liked most here, but overall she was a strange doll. I loved her to pieces, but I'm fairly certain she's gone now. Another mermaid that was a bath toy in our house was the Baby Bratz Mermaidz. Bratz were not a doll that showed up in my house, but this Yasmin was a weird exception. She could squirt water out of her mouth if you squeezed her belly, and the tail was molded on, but the fin could swivel a little. Those were really cute, I still have her but haven't pulled her out in ages. I'm just not a Bratz person in general, but I'm a tiny bit nostalgic for the baby mermaids.

    I have the mermaid fantasy doll. The lever in the back moves her arms and her head slightly but I think it works better if her arms are raised up. Also you forgot one important thing about her is if you squeeze the hip thigh area she flips her tail.

  • @emavirra
    @emavirra 2 года назад +1

    So, the last doll you showed is pretty close to the barbie mermaid I had as a kid. I don't know what line it was from, but she was the purple finned one, and the tail was a floppy rubber as well. But she had a button on her hip, and when you pressed the button, her knees would bend, so underwater you would hold her at the hip and press the button over and over again and it would look like she was flopping/kicking her fin. She could fully sit, I think, too. I thought I'd see her in this video but I am almost starting to think I dreamt up this doll from my childhood, lol

    I got all the Mermaid Fantasy Barbie dolls for Christmas when I was a kid, and they all have ripped at the knee joint. I love the feeling of their rubbery tails, though. It was definitely the best tails for a mermaid doll.
    Also, I like that the fin on the bottom can come off and you can switch them with the other colored mermaids.

    YES, I totally agree, silicone or latex tails are the absolute best ones, I loved them as a kid and that's the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear mermaid doll.
    I think they don't make them like that anymore cause they're really fragile and can get ripped easily, specially when played by kids.
    I don't mind fabric tails when they fit properly the doll, and about plastic tails, I just hate them, specially when they don't have any type of articulation and are just a chunk of plastic. The only ones I like are the Monster High ones cause the designs are just phenomenal and like nothing I have seen before, and they are posable enough to play with.

    Also I’m glad you mentioned the importance of how the dolls feel - that’s the reason I’ve stayed more into dolls while a lot of my friends are getting really into anime figures. I love the tactile nature of dolls and plushes - I love that I can pick them up and hold and touch them while the couple figures I have (while they’re beautiful and I love them) are best to not be touched or moved around too much. (Sidenote, I’ve really gotten into cotton dolls from Chinese manufacturers - they’re insanely cute, you can dress them up in the most adorable outfits, and they’re soft to the touch, I love them so much.)

    Good video. I agree with you in that permanent mermaids are better. You can make much better tails that way.
    I too like silicone tails more than fabric tails when it comes to pro mermaids, but like some fabric ones and understand they have their part. When it comes to swimmable tails, I like to use an analogy. Fabric tails are like a good pair of jeans (not too fancy, but look okay, swim okay, are comfortable, easy to get into, easy to take care of and repair if needed, and not too expensive), and silicone tails are like a tailored suit (expensive and require more care, but look the best, swim the best, and make the person feel the part the most). Hope to one day get a tail myself one day.
    If it is okay, I have two questions.
    What are your thoughts on mermen dolls and toys? Good or bad?
    Have you ever looked into the Play Mobil mermaid toys (they aren't exactly dolls, but close)?

    the fabric ones are probably my favorite for transforming dolls (ex, Little Mermaid) but basic mermaid (always a mermaid) has to be like the articulated tails like the Mermaid Fantasy or plastic ones but I never liked how they do the side tail (ex. Nori) but I prefer like the jointed tails so you can display them in various ways and a kid can play/swim with it well (As a kid I despised the like mid-point of the tail not bending like a "real" mermaid if that makes sense). That's just my opinion though! I still love the plastic ones just depending on the character.
    Also i think Roses (if you have one) has the mermaid color reveal doll but its been a bit so idk.
    Side story: I don't know if the bottom piece comes of Nori (fin piece) but I saw a kid with her (their parents probably passed it down to her I know it's common) and it was like broke off and I was like "poor Nori I'm so sorry to whoever did this to you!"

    I had the last one omg!! It's barbie with the pink hair and the blue tail I loved her so much because of the feel of her tail, it was also very chewy ,I bit her tail fin all the time. Now that I searched her online I realize she had so many acessories while mine is completely bare with frizzy hair scjbsdhbs still my favourite mermaid doll

    My favorite mermaid doll in my collection is my Pearl Princess Ariel doll Mattel 1997 because Ariel has always been my fave and 1997 is the year I was born, plus I love her metallic outfit and super long hair with perfectly styled bangs. I really want to add the 30th anniversary special edition Ariel doll to my collection but damn she expensive lol

    I agree I like my mermaids to be mermaids I have all the mermaid fantasy dolls and I’ve had them for years while I agree totally with you the problem with those dolls is latex breaks down and it rips I bought my dolls new in box as an adult so they were only ever displayed in a huge fish tank and they just rip. I also have all the mermaidia dolls I like them bit better cause they aren’t gonna over time break down for the time they came out and I’ve collect merpeople for YEARS more like decades they were pretty great. They could do THAT again with more articulation or made the mermaid fantasy type dolls with something more lasting. Mermaids go in and out of popularity all the time mermaids were huge back when they were released. And I too was SO Happy as a mermaid collector and I collect EVERYTHING merpeople and I do mean EVERYTHING! You name it I have it in merperson so I consider myself an expert in merpeople, that monster high did mermaids I was disappointed there was no Gil and I SO wanted Ghoulia to fall in the pool cause I wanted a Ghoulia mermaid she could of been a zombie fish or something (an actual fish) though I’d loved her as anglerfish. Also I wish they had done the seamares they were so adorable so many missed opportunities with that line but also I think ppl didn’t appreciate these dolls til like now. I see ppl requesting them more now but then pass after that came the reboot (so see what not appreciating what great dolls we had in MH got everyone) I’m glad I got them all when they came out… I had to, cause I like my mermaids more on the dark side too I love the once upon a zombie little mermaid and I have things like living dead Feejee mermaid. I love me some Ariel but mermaids in folklore weren’t also nice and could be quite dangerous I’m pretty mergoth so it’s just my preference to have more dark merpeople. I had no idea mertailor ever made doll tails I’m sure they were fintastic I must’ve missed that. Only dolls I collect at all are merpeople (I do appreciate mermen over regular mermaids these days) and Monster High dolls who my favorite is…. Of course it’s Lagoona.

      I also used to do that 😂😂😂. But then again, how can those people be sure that they are not beautiful? Have they seen them😂😂? Lots of things in nature defy our expectations. Whether mermaids are super pretty or narly looking monsters they would still be cool.

    I prefer fabric tails on mermaid dolls. They are more versatile. I didn't buy mermaids in my childhood bec of stiff plastic tails. Now I buy preloved ones. I love your collection and enjoy watching your videos. Do u collect only fashion dolls and not baby dolls? Thank you.

    I love mermaid dolls!!! Sometimes I want a A transformational mermaid and sometimes I just like molded on. For the transforming mermaid I would want something like the Barbie you showed at the end because i’m kind of person that wants to play with it in the ocean. Also if I wanted a transformational mermaid I would like some thing like the H2O mermaids. Only thing I am concerned about is The hair on the brand new mermaid dolls and the amount of movement. I love when u share your opinions and thank you for putting out such great Videos out 😁😁

I had the barbie one when I was little, the problem was the tail split and I cried so badly it will forever be my favourite doll (except my custome ones) I'm still so sad I lost that doll but it lasted like 5 years (I got it for my 4th birthday)

    Okay y’all hear me out 😩 My cousin had this mermaid doll in the past. It had just like the last one a silicone/rubber-ish fin! She had two variants, one doll was a muted blue-ish with blond (a bit curly hair) the other I only remember the fin being dark green (maybe reddish hair?? Idk or brown). And it moves like the last purple one you showed! The dolls kinda had big heads (maybe like myscene or bratz, or inbetween). And I just CANT find any pictures online! 😩 Does anyone know what I’m talking about?
