Im still a teenager, and I didn't grow up with any traditions or anything, but one thing i want to do when im older is hand-make a christmas ornament each year! It could be a fun family activity and tie in with the advent calendar :)

A daily activity advent calendar is fun: decorate gingerbread, take a drive round the neighbourhood to see the Christmas lights, eat a meal backwards (pudding first & then mains), have a beige buffet, sleepover under the Christmas tree….

I really like the “something I want, something I need, something to wear, and something to read” gifting strategy. I’m definitely more minimalist when it comes to Christmas presents. I loved opening my stocking growing up, too. I’m not doing the stocking thing with my almost five month old this year, but definitely next year. I want to get a set of matching stockings in the meantime. This year, my baby is getting a couple of books personalized with his name, a winter hat, and a Harry Potter Build a Bear, plus a few toys and things from family. I did order a baby’s first Christmas ornament, too.

I do that gift strategy every year now for the past three years. I have two kids and realized I was buying wayyy to many gifts that they barely play with and my family goes over board with the gifts anyway so this idea was brilliant… I also do “something I want” and Santa Sacks. With the stockings so my baby’s get about 7 gifts for Christmas

My children are grown and long gone but I still remember those Christmas days back then. I always got each child a book, a stocking filled with a a piece of fruit of their choice, a new toothbrush, gum for the kid who liked gum but not candy, and candy for the other kids. My youngest went through a period of wearing sweats tops and bottoms over a period of five years so he would always get some new matching sweats sets. For my daughter I usually got a small piece of jewelry for her stocking.
One of our family tradition was to “play Santa” for others. This meant going to pick out a gift for their grandmothers. A second close addition was to have Santa bring the small things while dad and mom got to give them the gifts they had asked for; ie, a new sled.
One of my best Christmas memories with my children is the year that my two sons had been sick during Christmas break. We were supposed to go to my moms house but that morning John was sick again. I made the decision and then called her. I loved having Christmas with just my own little family! Later that afternoon their dad and the two boys took the new sled out in the pasture to slide down the hills of snow.

Lovely ideas and items you purchased. I enjoy seeing others minimal Christmas.
    I’m a Minimal mom of 3 boys.
    Things we do:
    1. We love setting up for Christmas all together with a plate of sausage, cheese, and crackers, chocolate or cookies. With Christmas music playing.
    2. Making cards or making goodies and delivering them to the neighbors
    3. Singing carols at nursing homes (pre pandemic)
    4. Going out to see lights
    5. They get an ornament every year in their stocking so they have a collection when they leave the house
    6. With my family…we do brunch….read the Christmas story…then have an epic nerf war.
For our boys for gifts…we do a couple joint gifts. And 1-2 individual ones.
    Joint gifts:
This year we got a play climbing dome for outside.
We got them abc…123 wooden puzzles. And a tent for their bunk bed to share.
Individually, we got them 2 gifts each.
For the 7 year old…1 lego kit and 1 click engineer set.
For the 5 year old…1 lego kit and a golden retriever stuffed puppy. (He specifically asked for this for months)
For the 8 month old…a Mushie stacking toy and a set of wooden Montessori toys.
    Stockings:
Big boys: Ornament, welly’s bandaids (they have the cutest sets), smart sweets, Lara bars
Baby: ornament, Bibs pacifiers, baby food pouches
    MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU!

It’s my baby’s first Christmas too. I love the intentionality of an experience for Christmas. I agree, I do not want to have Christmas be gift centric. I prefer experiences anyways, so maybe an envelope with the experience listed or a small gift hinting at it. Your gifts for Zion are so my style too 🥺 I wanted to get the mushie tooth brushes as well but we decided to not do gifts this year to be budget conscious and because we know he will get plenty from others.

Gift giving is an important thing like you said, some people don't think that, but it is. The 5 language of love (quality time, gift giving, act of service, affirmations, physical touch) are all important and needed to feel loved. It just needs to be balanced out 😊

I’m a firm believer of the concept of Christmas as a family holiday that is not only about buying things. We have a lot of family traditions. We usually feed the birds, go to church or for Christmas walks, visit friends, invite other people for Christmas dinners etc. Next year we also want to bring some food to the animals in the woods, like handmade peanut rings for the birds, stuff like that. In my country most of the kids get their advent calendar, even adults do, so we have that going on as well. My kids also love getting things they need, like warm socks, pyjamas or slippers. We also gift books, crafting stuff, board games, building blocks or instruments as we usually do not buy toys throughout the year. For me thought there are things I like getting for them and things I would never buy for Christmas. I am very peculiar about that.

I loved this video!! I have a 3 month old and have been struggling to figure out what she would like for Christmas and actually use since she's so young. I ended up getting her clothes from Jamie Kay during the Black Friday sale and two tummy time toys.

I always make a christmas box, not for my own kids (because I don't have ones), but for my niece and nephew.
So I always put a Pjama (something to wear), A movie (something to watch), A big snack and some small ones (something to eat), a DIY cookie Jar with a cookie cutter (A activity) and a plushie (something to feel). This is an example what I put in, it differs all the time. All put together in a nice box, sometimes wrapped, sometimes not. They get this on Christmas Day and we can use it immediately.

Xmas eve pizza and of course sugar cookies that we decorate. We always do gingerbread houses (we hot glue gun the walls and roof together) and go to the dollar store to get cheap but colorful candies to put on it, and drive around on Christmas eve to see lights with cocoa.

My son is 13 years old now but I started when he was little baking a cake or cupcakes and we celebrate Jesus birthday. We never did Santa only like for fun but not that he is real or the reason we celebrate Christmas. My oldest niece has said when she was like 4 years old that she loved Santa more than Jesus because he gave gifts and was fun so I never really wanted to start that with my son. We don’t do a lot of presents we do more experiences together. I an a single mom so it’s usually just me and him but sometimes it’s grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. We watch our traditional Christmas movies and go look at Christmas lights. We try to go to our local town Christmas parade. I really try to put the focus on Jesus and spending time with loved ones. Not to brag but he’s the only kid out of the cousins in my family who doesn’t beg or ask for expensive gifts and expect them for Christmas. We actually enjoy it and not get overwhelmed on what to buy. Oh we also bake cookies and give them for Christmas presents.
