The Varvatos XX Indigo is ironically similar to Guess 1981 Indigo. Both open fruity with a touch of mint, have that blue vibe without really being aquatic and dry to a chalky dusty vetiver.
Lonnie I haven’t smelled Guess 1981 Indigo but I would like to try it.

That’s definitely one of the better pickups there Storm. I have a decant of it really nice.
XX indigo reminds me of Dylan blue minus the incense.

Great video, Gerard. The only Varvatos fragrances I have in my collection are the Nick Jonas blue & silver bottles. So, I definitely want to check out Marshall’s to see if I come across these. Particularly, Artisan. Have a great weekend

I found 2 more Milestone fragrances at TJMaxx last weekend. Tuscany Leather ($15 clone of Tom Ford Tuscan Leather) and Intimate Rouge ($17 clone of BR540). Can't find any reviews about either of them. I can't really comment on how close they are to the originals. Tuscany Leather smells great but I don't pick up on any raspberry (although I found a page that listed raspberry as a note so maybe some is in there). The Intimate Rouge gives me Guess 1981 Los Angeles vibes and isn't too sweet for me like some other 540 clones.

You got it! Artisan definitely my favorite of the two.
Varvatos atomizer are comically bad, and i was very forgiving (varvatos are pretty cheap) till i came across Sean John's 3 am atomizer, and my life changed ;-) Found the indigo a bit meh... but curious about the xx. My favourite varvatos has to be the artisn blu, with more notes than a Beethoven's symphony, this is a fantastic and even somewhat unique green (yeh, go figure) scent.
I like blu as well. 3AM atomizer is an absolute fire hose!
I love Indigo. Gorgeous blue scent, I don't even care about the performance. Perfect scent for when you're just going to get lunch with a friend or something, I can also see it fresh out of the gym. I'd consider it an alternative to Dylan Blue when you want something in that vein but you're not quite in the mood for Dylan Blue.
Artisan is a fairly unique vetiver scent, which is not always easy to pull off. I enjoy it. Neither would be my favorite JV, but I'm happy to own them.
It does remind me of a tamed down more rounded Dylan Blue Danny. I can see there absolutely being a place for that.
Wow, just the opposite here. Went to a new Marshall's today to try and get some Greg Noman shorts that my local store had in the wrong size. Got the shorts, but the fancy looking Marshall's was a disaster inside, literally 10 fragrances total. My local also had nothing. Might try Burlington today.
Burlington actually does a great job of stocking up just before holidays. Let me know how you make out!
Man I envy your marshalls... all Marshalls and TJMaxx here have them fragrances locked up... I have to call for someone to unlock, show them what i want...and give them my name so i can go to the cashier to pay first and pick up... so annoying... btw you should definitely try true religion drifter. It's a clean scent, not blue or citrus but little fruity/flowery/soapy. Ideal for casual use 😅. Anyways I enjoyed your video! You got yourself a subscriber!
Thanks Martin! I know they are starting to lock them up near me as well but the cheaper stuff they are keeping on the shelf in most stores. I’ll have to check out drifter I’ve passed on it many times.
So excited to see XX hit Rack! I sampled this back when it was featured at Ulta and I loved the incense mint compilation going on kind of similar to Cartier Roadster which is discontinued

I would like to try xx artisan though i usually am not the biggest fan of vetiver.
Yeah I would say you you need to like vetiver but its more modern than most vetiver scents which can tend to smell a bit dated.
Indigo gives me luna rossa ocean vibes.
I haven't smelled ocean in awhile and am curious about the new flanker.

It’s awesome. More of a designer take on that scent but I like that about it.
I saw XX Indigo and Bvlgari Man Wood Neroli. Didn’t care for the first one since I felt it would be smelling like other Blues.. not like John Varvatos. I felt bad for not getting Wood Neroli but I can get it online cheaper.
I actually wore Wood Neroli this week! Love it for summer
I never saw any varvatos when I visited the rack stores... Florida was short of varvatos.. haha

I still see indigo at Macy's, haven't seen Xx Artisan at any retailers, only at websites such as fragrancenet. That price is excellent, 4.2's cost $96 at retail stores.
Worth it Paul very nice scent.
Only problem with Varvatos at Marshalls: They don't last long and also were $24.99 a year ago.

Yeah I wasn’t a fan of the hardware either. I’m typically not a fan of tassels and stuff hanging from the bottles of any fragrance personally. Don’t think I own Indigo anymore but I did enjoy it.
Yeah a little too much for me personally haha.

One of the best cheapies I ever got at the rack store has to be Ben Sherman signature it’s basically ombré leather a little sweeter
I actually did a give away with it. Amazing scent for the price.

Great review Gerard. I picked up indigo about a month ago on a baseball trip with my son. I created a scent memory with it. I don’t necessarily love the fragrance but I love the time I had with it watching my son play ball. I will keep it for that reason. However you’ve piqued my interest on XX Artisan, I will be on the lookout for it.

Years ago I found John Varvatos/Nick Jonas Crimson at the rack store. It was supposed to be a limited edition. I bet that they just threw that formula into a blue bottle and called it XX Indigo. It's alright. When I wear it, I smell like I should be driving an IROC.
It is different after the opening however it has the same something about it that the other JV x NJ frags do.

Vintage is my least favorite but I would like to revisit. I should grab it when I see it again.
Nice vid. I hope i can find those in my rack stores. I love John Varvatos fragrances but my favorite will forever be dark rebel and thats the only one for me tha actually performs better.

JV OG, Artisan Teal, Artisan Blu, Crimson and Artisan Pure is on the edge….I really wish I snagged dark rebel tho, never got to try it and I’m sure it’s great. Hbu??

Man, I got lucky a month ago and scored the indigo, and the week before the artisan... that indigo is fantastic, too me. But yea, you basically gotta take the bottle with you to keep re spraying.... didn't even think about them stocking the shelves for fathers day.
Buy a $3 travel atomizer and decant some. Not a big deal.

Xx indigo always reminded me of Dolce Gabbana K edp. And the regular xx reminds me of terre dhermes

I know both and I totally agree with you, these were released in 2020 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the JV house, XX Indigo is to me very generic and forgettable If I want something like that I can buy it for less than 20 USD and XX Artisan is I think the only one not created by Rodrigo Flores Roux that I like (the last one was one that I think we both enjoy: Artisan Pure in 2017), XX Artisan is compared with TF Grey Vetiver, emm nope, it doesn't have that quality but for 40+ USD is a very decent office fragrance, I own a bottle since 2021 but I will not say more, let's see what is your opinion next week or within the next few weeks, what is curious about these 20th anniversary releases is that nobody was expecting them because the brand declared bankruptcy I think the same year 2020 or a year before and actually by that time everybody was trying to get JV bottles because discontinuation rumors related to the the bankruptcy, Great video Gerard!

The Blue Indigo bottle is a real stinker. Do not blindly buy this. Smells like mint green tea. It is disgusting. The regular Artisian (not reviewed here) is also disgusting. It smells like an orange/lemon glade cleaner. The dry down is a little better but again not worth a purchase. The Original is probably the best.
I'm not a fan of Artisan either.
It's not fair. Massachusetts does not deserve it. in Congress they talk about ABC, anyone but California. We get no love. We dominate everything, and this is how they get back at us.
