I joked about this on twitter, but every time I start a fromsoft game there's two things I want to know

Whenever he says that I’m like “Ya? So Patches and the Moonlight Sword are just coincidences? I think NOT!”
it's insane how patches has lived through thousands of eras and possibly years across universes and dimensions, being reborn by the fire twice, and still doesn't seem to understand that there will never be a corpse to strip because the ones he tries to trick are always beings cursed with immortality who will be reborn every time they die.

The funniest thing is, if you do look at it as though they are all, at least partially, connected... It's almost like the tone of the kicking and the excuses themselves even seem to have shifted. In the earlier installments it feels more like a genuine, "oh crap!" panic, whereas by Elden Ring, while the excuse does come, he's a lot... Calmer. Almost as though in a way he's somewhat going through the motions.
I think, *if it is all one Patch,* he may have started to recognize our character at some point. Or otherwise might be getting some serious deja vu.
Yeah. It's like Patches recognizes the player after a while, and even learns to be more open with them.
There's a theory going around that Pate is framing Creighton and is actually the true serial killer from Mirrah. Cale mentions seeing a familiar face with the name Creighton at the Forest of Giants; not explicitly stated but can be assumed since this is where we first meet him. However, the only person we see there is Cale and Pate, but no Creighton. So it is to be assumed that Creighton was locked within that cell in Huntsman's Copse before the story begins or in between the time after we meet Pate and Cale, but before we get to Huntsman's Copse.
Another note to add is that Pate's face is always showing because of his helmet choice, however Creighton has a full helmet covering his facial features. There's more context within the descriptions in both of their armor sets that peculiarly mention that both sets are custom made or slightly different from typical armor sets made in the regions they hail from. Creighton's supposedly hailing from Mirrah and Pate's being an altered set of common origin, probably to blend in within Drangleic.
Another oddity is that Creighton's armor has the same family crest as the armor of Benhart of Jugo, meaning that Benhart's set is also of the same origin and possibly the authentic version of Creighton's set that he must have found during his travels from the east where Mirrah coincides. So with all that information, we can assume Creighton was a knight of Mirrah and possibly did escape before his execution for the serial murders, as mentioned by Cale, except that by looking at the evidence, it makes no sense why he would slightly alter his armor rather than just ditch it altogether to avoid capture. It makes more sense that someone skilled at craftsmanship like Pate would craft a shoddy imitation of the real thing off memory, so he could frame someone else gullible enough to team up with him. Possibly someone who is in a similar situation to Pate and could use a new alias, someone like "Creighton". It isn't too out of the realm considering Pate gives you an exact replica of his own customized armor set, possibly to set you up and get you killed by Creighton in his steed.
Finally, it should be noted that Pate has the same accent as Cale and Lucatiel, both being natives of Mirrah before migrating to Drangleic, but Creighton doesn't share this accent. If anything his accent has a (very) slight similarity to Benhart's, who is noted to be a traveler not native to Drangleic or Mirrah.
All of this points to Pate being the actual Creighton, suspected of being the escaped serial killer from Mirrah, rather than the Creighton we meet in Huntsman's Copse, however this is all left up to speculation in the end and in turn, our choice in choosing the lesser of two evils (killing one) or not choosing at all (not killing/killing both).
EDIT: I forgot to mention that when meeting Creighton for the first time, he specifically mentions that Pate takes pleasure in killing other people and not to trust him. Something pretty peculiar to say, considering Creighton is supposedly the serial killer from Mirrah.
TLDR: Pate is the real Creighton and is framing the current "Creighton" for the serial murders in Mirrah.

I always found it fishy that Pate has a white soapstone but he didn't give it to his companion when they went charging into a trap alone and were likely to need the help...
I had no idea Patches had any of these storylines to give his character a lot of gray area into his true motivations. I just assumed he was an irredeemable scoundrel that FROM placed in their games for fan service. Thanks for the video
You forgot that, after restoring his memory in DS3, you can summon Patches in for the boss fight against Halflight (or summoned phantom). He’s not in the Lapp Set anymore, which you can get by going back to where he kicks you down.

Patches has been a favorite character of mine since Demon’s Souls on ps3, he was great in all appearances but he truly shined in The Ringed City. He’s also rather great in Elden Ring too, his greatness shows alongside his questline when done properly to the end! You get the Prostration gesture from Dark Souls 1 but in the name of Extreme Repentance. Full circle moment for me & made me appreciate the journey I’ve had in the Elden Souls games with Patches even more. A fine Dark Soul to all of you indeed…. ✌🏼

Pate is interesting because he strikes me more as the older, stronger and smother brother of patches. His voice is charming, his act is polished, his traps hide all his intentions to kill us, he is very patient in building trust and waiting to kill us till the very end. But laddersmith gilligan says something interesting once we end a trade with him; "Cheers for that, hah hah!". And he also sells a armor set that looks identical to patches set from DS1. Gilligan also comes from Volgen a place wich is vibrant with trade but controled by the blue sentinels were you cant run shop without their blessings and a perlious powerstruggle between the corrupt and honest noble men occurs. Sounds like a place were our patches would find himself at home or were he would kick the wrong person this time and meet a quiet end...

that aside I believe in terms of voice performances, Vanderpye had the most fun with Patches the Spider, he definetively sounds a lot more shrill and unhinged in Bloodborne then in all the others and I love it

I missed a mention about his contribution to the radahn festival, or rather the lack there off. i doesn't add a thing to his story, but loads to his character.

Patches attacking you 1 on 1 and immediately getting folded is genuinely so funny. Fromsoft gave him one chance to fight fair and it goes horribly for him.

I have this headcanon that Patches is actually a God that dips into the various universes of Fromsoft. He always seems to have a story connected to the idea of Greed and the folly of humanity to just live. Which is why I think he chooses the form of a man, but shows no signs of corruption like everyone else Also he tends to speak uniquely compared to everyone else. The only one that doesn't work for that is Bloodborne because he was a fanatical half-spider in that one and I have no idea how to connect that.
So he is like the From Soft version of Cid, from Square-Enix?
He is like the personification of the Scorpion from the proverb. Looking for a ride across the river, swearing he wont sting you. But every time, you're like "why did you do that?"... he's a scorpion. Its what he does.
Personally he is right, greed is the only thing keeping him alive. Your greed. If he didn't have anything to offer, he'd be dead after first betrayal

Well done. 100 episodes and a right zinger for 100. IIRC though, Patches also appears in the board and card games, and the comics if I heard correctly.
The comics are considered non-canon, I think the board games are meant to represent the same stories as the video games though.

Oh, WOW! I had no idea there was so much on Patches! Just the other day, I ran into the Rainbow Rock part, and he punt-kicked me to the bottom! At first, I was like:' You little s%#@!' THEN, I realized I was now on a much faster route to Azur and that needed pathway to other things! In my mind, in the universe of Elden Ring, he's a forgotten Demi-god! The name "The Unteathered", is what started to point that out! Only Demi-gods have that type of name! In Patches case, that would be the ultimate irony! Like in my mind as well, Boc, is another forgotten Demi-god, when you finally get to Leyendell, when Melina leaves you, that starts a bit of line of dialogue! He remarks about seeing a giant golden tree, and he felt something, something he didn't have before! In my opinion, he was given Grace! Because ONLY those who have it, can see it AND the Erdtree! IF true, as a (probably) forgotten Demi-god, also a demi-human, that is HUGE! CONGRATS on the 100th. video!
I didn't know the Seathwater cave was there until he kicked me there. I talked to him before he kicked me but I needed to go there for the mushroom outfit.
Patches does apear rarely in Bloodbornes Chalice dungeons too. Hes a merchant there. Ive done hundreds of chalice dungeons but ive never personaly encountered him tho.

Patches the Spider is also special in another way, he's a giant spider with a human face and only two eyes.
It's my headcanon that the remaining six are lining his brain, so he is indeed an insightful fellow.

Elden ring is my first fromsoft game. I didn’t feel like I could trust patches, so I went ahead and killed him
