- Indigenous people comprise 5% of the world's population and protect 80% of the Earth’s biodiversity.
The Khasi Indigenous community of Laitmawsiang in #Meghalaya, has been similarly safeguarding their forests and natural resources for centuries. Their lives are intrinsically tied to nature for basic necessities, livelihood, infrastructure, and medicines. This interdependence with nature has become a cultural practice, which has been passed from generation to generation.
This Earth Day, we would like to highlight and honour a community that has been at the forefront of biodiversity conservation.
Earth Day is celebrated annually on 22nd April, to recognise the achievements of the environmental movement, and raise awareness of the need to protect the planet's natural resources for future generations.
Our documentary on the #Khasi #Community is an effort not just to share their way of life with the world, but to bring attention to the gradual threat approaching the community, their livelihood, biodiversity, and their culture as a whole. The threat of climate change and its consequences has the capacity to impact their community, and in turn, the entire world.
At Swiss Learning Exchange, we believe that every story is important and deserves to be heard. We collaborate with experts, communities, and sustainability champions in order to help them share their sustainability efforts and expertise with the world. By facilitating this transfer of knowledge, we strive to achieve our common goal of a long-lasting, sustainable future, together.
If you’re working towards sustainable development, and you’re looking for the right way to share your efforts in order to raise awareness, get in touch with us at info@learning.com. We would love to partner with you and amplify your story!

Absolutely Incredible
As a Khasi myself I would really like to thank you for highlighting our culture to the world..we are fighting a war against modernization every day.. It's a tough battle as the govt take no stone unturned to exploit our resources in the name of development... Preserving and prote
cting our land at any cost...i got a lil teary eyed watching this.. Thank you
Loved the documentary, crisp and effective. Yes, we need to learn from the Khasis about how to be good caretakers of our surroundings!
Very nice video, it's in our interest that we maintain these cultures which help maintain a positive carbon footprint, afforestation, and combat the toxins and pollutants in the land and air. As it is, rapid development is increasingly making it a losing battle. These cultures are still fighting a battle against the human 'gray goo' that the rest of us are becoming. Not every green park and national park need be converted to the the urban sprawl of a software technology park...
My lovely Village.❤️
