Tony has a very impressive composting set up, I swear I heard him humming "one bay at a time sweet Jesus " Thanks for another great video Danny, the tunnel is coming along nicely .
A great idea to run the water away from the tunnel for when the barrel is full mate. Great to see you the other day. Wish my back would have allowed me to do a little more there with you, but that's life. Great update.
After all this flooding today it's worked a charm tony! The plot would have been a bog otherwise! Always a good laugh when together. Cheers for the inspiration and all the support! Danny 🌱
Fab video as always Danny ❤ I enjoyed your visit to Tony's and the garden cebtre. I mentioned to Doug to watch your video for when he's ready to redo our compost bins. Gosh Tony has so many, doesn't he but the compost looks fabulous. I can't wait to see his tropical garden. Your polytunnel is great and you did a good job of that barrel. It looks much nicer than the white one. Some good planting done too. Gave a great week ❤ x
Thanks Linda! I'm sure you're welcome to Tony's! He only had tea when I visited this time, not the selection of coffees and biscuits and chocolate I'm used to 😂
@TheGrowUpChannel Love to pay Tony a visit one day Danny. He has a wealth of knowledge and I'm sure I could drum up a few questions for him. 👍 See you soon at The Feel Good Garden Café for a variety of teas, coffees and biscuits 🤭😂 Linda ❤️ x
Great video Danny, enjoyed the drive too. It’s so nice to see the country side where you call home, spotted a little bit of snow even. I’m having similar issues with my raised garden hoops so I’m interested to see what you do. Thanks Danny ⭐️♥️⭐️
Well they keep saying we're getting more.. we've had a terrible rainstorm here that's flooded the town. The hoop reinforcements have been ordered. Just need them to arrive now . Thanks angie!
@ oh bugger, stay safe over there ♥️ Omg it’s just been on the news here, so much damage. Hope the weather improves quickly so the clean up goes smoothly 😬♥️
I always enjoy Tony sharing his wealth of knowledge. Thanks for visiting him on an obviously busy day with your live and all! My compost is strongly inspired by his system (only 3 bins). I have set rat traps in my compost and in raised beds just a few meters away and never caught a single rat in my compost but killed over 40 in the raised beds. It should be pretty easy to avoid rats in compost!
Hi Tony and Danny great to see you all together and bringing information about the compost bin, you’re getting a lot of your jobs done have a lovely week ❤
What a great video Danny. Lovely to see Tony’s composting set up, again. Beautiful composting. Your bays will look great once done and will make a huge difference for you. Good work with the barrel. With all the rain we’ve had over the weekend, it made me see that an IBC alone isn’t enough. It’d fill so quickly. I wish we’d installed a soak away now. Great work with the leg extensions for the staging. Little touches like that make all the difference. I feel like FT has solutions for every problem… including ridge bars for garden bed hoops! Nice idea. Christine’s always look so neat. So much planted up for winter. Incredibly productive growing space. Have a great week 😊
Thanks clare! Yeah it's always insightful visiting tony. The barrel was done just in the nick of time! Storm has been horrendous! So pleased with the staging now 😊🌱
I love the idea of having the hoops raised up for taller plants. The metal hoops look so neat and tidy too. Tony's plot still looks amazing, even though he's not been able to do much there, will be nice to see him gardening again.
Great idea with the barrel by the side of the polytunnel to divert the overflow of water. Love the compost bay set up at tonys. Another helpful video as always Danny i like how you always let us know what we would need to complete the jobs your doing.
No one has done a better looking compost system then Tony, not only do they function well for him but they look neat and tidy not an eyesore. Hi Tony if your looking I was about to copy with a double one having collected the necessities but the rats arrived and got in to our downstairs ceiling I think the bays were too close to the house and what I thought totally sealed room sized under the house then climbed up the bats into the ceiling. End of compost bays before completed. And after two years of baiting rats gone and those unsealed walls now covered. Just seen the pm news here and reports on the flooding over there I hope all are safe and homes all ok. Take care everyone
Great update Danny , loved your chat with Tony especially the coffee grounds as I've just started to receive some from a local cafe hopefully once a month but I just add it to my compost unlike Tony drying his out first , loved it always learn stuff from you two guys , happy days 👍
Like going to the bloody garden centre visiting Tony 😂😂. Water system is looking bad ass oh no wait that’s you planting near the tunnel 🤣🤣🤣. Have an amazing week hope the essay went well, see ya Thursday Benny, Ali aka Jackie ☔️☔️🥶🇨🇦
Just finished building my shed on my plot and getting the log burner installed. All that's left to do is install the solar panel and lighting and I've got a year round functioning workshop on the plot. Gone for 10ft by 14ft pvc windows and doors pent roof and it's changed the game on the garden. Built a run on the side of the old 6x8 shed and turned into a coop. By spring we should be set up
@TheGrowUpChannel my garden never will look as good as yours does my friend that's why I've got 6 ft hedges round mine and you've got yours on RUclips. Really jealous of the tunnel but can't bring myself to stump up the cash. Not that you'd be interested with your rolls Royce tunnel haha but I got one from feel good uk 6x3m for 200 quid and I'm going into 3rd winter now and it's holding up real well. Recommend to anyone here :)
Great to see a half decent gardener and allotment on this channel for a change 😂😂😂 Honestly Danny another great video. You and Tony make quite the double act 👍
Love you he compost section of your video!! More people need to start making their own. Tony just shows how easy it is. Look at all those cuttings!!!! 😂 Garden centres looking bare again apart from the Christmas stuff. Your tunnel looks miniature after being in Tony’s 😂😂 Do 4! Bays you can never have enough!! Definitely little and often to get all those jobs ticked off. Off up the garden now to shift some home made compost onto my beds xx ❤
Another fab vlog, thank you ❤ I can’t wait for you to get your compost bins started. I actually love compost making more than gardening 😂 Im going to attempt to copy your idea of diverting the water away. Fab idea 😊
Hi Danny, what brilliant compost bins Tony has and you being able to visit his plot to get some inspiration for when you build yours on your plot. Isn't it just great to be able to do that and passing such information on RUclips too ❤ nice job on the water butt to conserve precious rain water 💧 hasntcrralusex you could grow kale in the winter, must do that next season, what variety are they? Looking forward to seeing you progress on this plot, you are doing well up to now 😊 another great video. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Luckily, that overflow I installed prevented the plot from sinking. However, the town hasn't faired well at all..sadly. I stayed indoors until it was over. Thankfully 🌱❤️
Yeah I've seen a few. I'm open for inspiration, but I've already got the shed in my head. It's been there for almost a year..needs to be created now haha
You can’t beat first tunnels for customer service, the wood for my doors warped really badly when I built mine and they replaced the timber straight away, with no quibbles. Would a water tank in the tunnel be a good idea for you? I have one and it makes watering the tunnel so much easier, plus it’s at a warmer temperature than outside. I use the Bosh pump to fill it , the same as you have I believe. Just a thought. Hope you get around to doing the solar powered irrigation video, so I can get some ideas. Take care, Pete.
Absolutely pete. I wasn't bigging them up for any other reason than they really do go above and beyond! I have considered a water tank inside actually... hmm.. and the irrigation video will be made..don't worry !
Do you need to shorten the down spout into your barrel? I don't think that the water will continue to flow into the barrel once the water level reaches the bottom of the spout which will just result in the water backing up into your gutters and overflowing off the side of the gutters. Your down spout should be shorter than the upper spout on your barrel if you want the water level to get up that high.
Lol, we used 10’ conduit for hoops and realized the plastic was barely covering now. The bug netting was plenty big and worked all summer and didn’t think about plastic till fall 🙄. Ewe…rats in compost, not for me 🤮. Still amazes me that you are planting out with ice on water. We will definitely be hitting freezing day and night later next week.
Oh that's always a good thing to have, that piping! The ground is fairly warm still.. but will soon be frozen I'm sure ! I dunno about composting rats either but interesting! Haha!
I could do yeah! But I'd have to somehow attach them to the hoops. I don't want to drill into them. The first tunnel option doesn't affect the hoops :)
Hi Danny, I was trying to remember the name of the other Allotment gardender on youtube that you used to take woodchip to ? Do you still speak to him ?

I use horizontal bamboo canes and cable ties to secure my hoops to my raised beds, cheap and quick.
