i am 71, american and a jazz fan for 50 years. In college at UCLA i saw the wailers each time they were in town.
i have only cried 4 times over someones death. JFK, Lennon, my mom and Robert Nesta Marley. i still have a t- shirt from his concert in the late sevevties. I AND I man . . .

By no means am I arguing here... there are amazing reggae basslines that fit GREAT! especially since reggae is an emphasis on the off beats the bass and drum fill in the rest and stuff. BUT jazz and stand up bass has some just as deep pockets if not deeper ^_^ Thats why I dig when reggae has many horns because they tend to tap into that influence! Cheers!

It's important to understand that Bob's message was very simple and polite to everyone. He wanted people to understand his culture with Love. Instead of throwing it at you. He wanted you to understand its nothing to fear. It's called Love Culture . Love Jah, Love everyone around you. Be aware of your surroundings. This music is the religion you were looking for. The religion is you. The Natural Mystic is around you. Listen carefully and you will hear. amazing validation. He said the music will find its right people and will continue to grow. I've been listening to Bob Marley since the age of 5. My family is Caribbean. I was Born in Kingston. My Dad met him once. My Dad introduced me to Bob Marley and The Wailers music. Great success story. You can't stop someone's destiny. But, to hear Chris they were the Jimmy Cliff in The Harder They Come. sounded a bit stupid. The reputation they had, was probably they didn't take no mess.

Bob Marley did in his 36 years what some artists take a lifetime to achieve and accomplish. Of course, there are many artists who don't get the recognition they richly deserve. Bob Marley originally is from St. Ann in Nine Mile Jamaica. He moved to Trench town- the Jamaican ghetto when he was growing up. For a while he was in Detroit, Michigan for about 8 months working in an auto plant (Detroit is the Motor town in America- Berry Gordy named his Detroit studio Motown Records). After Haile Selassie I's visit to Jamaica 🇯🇲, Marley who was raised Christian converted to Rastafarianism, as well as started singing- one of his earliest hits was Judge Not (1962). Bob Marley teamed up Bunny Livingston & Peter Tosh and formed the Wailing Wailers- the name derived from the crying in Trenchtown from lack of food. In 1972, along with Chris Blackwell he produced Catch A Fire LP with it Zeppo lighter jacket. The band was treated like a rock group- Catch A Fire was heavily packaged & promoted, but it would be years before Marley got the fame, fortune & recognition he deserved. Burning (1973) had songs which the band did for Coxsone Dodd including "Small Axe" 🪓, "Duppy Conqueror" & "400 Years" along with "Get Up Stand Up", "I Shot The Sheriff". 1974 he did Natty Dread, which, according to Aston "Family Man" Barrett it took some time to complete because the band had other commitments- they were helping other artists to produce their music. In 1975 Bob Marley & The Wailers recorded two shows at the Lyceum Ballroom in London "Live" had the now famous hit "No Woman No Cry". 1976, Marley was in Jamaica when an assassination attempt on his life 🧬 was planned- he was hit in the sternum, the bullet landed in his arm. He returned to London in 1977 and recorded "Exodus"- the album had hits like "Natural Mystic", "Three Little Birds", "Waiting In Vain", "Exodus" the title track & "Jammin". In 1978, he produced Kaya the album had "Is This Love" &,"Satisfy My Soul"- people claimed he was going soft because he started singing Love ❤️ songs. 1979 he produced the Survival album which had "Africa Unite" 🌍. In 1980, he came out with his last known hit "Redemption Song". In 1981, he was performing in Madison Square Garden in New York City- where it would be his last performance. He was jogging in Central Park had collapsed. Cancer which had been diagnosed from him playing football ⚽, he refused surgery instead having a skin graft due to his religious beliefs. Robert Nesta Marley died in Miami, Florida May, 11,1981 after being treated for cancer in Germany. There are stories that the FBI took him out- this has been debunked. Do your research- you will see it. Cancer is what killed Bob Marley.

@@Michel-7.7.7 I didnt leave Lee "Scratch" Perry out intentionally, I may have forgotten about him. Like I said earlier most of what I wrote was from the liner notes of Bob Marley's album Legend (1984)- which is more or less a Greatest Hits album along with Natural Mystic: The Legend Lives on (1995). Bob Marley brought people together. To quote him "I is a common sense man, that if I had to say something to a baby, even the baby would understand". Robert Nesta Marley even said that "I don't dip on the Black man's side or the White man's side. Me dip on God's side". I will say this though he did say "If I had education I would be a fool". I hate to debate him here, but when you are educated you are literally free- and not "Walking In The Dark" to quote Trinidadian Calypsonian Lord Brigo.

    • @riyadhrafique8377

If Rita Marley cheated the musicians- Beverly Kelso, Aston "Family Man" Barrett & his brother Carlton, along with Peter Tosh (who left Marley behind in 1974) I would not have known that. There is only so much information you can read or research you can do on a person until you are exhausting your abilities. As far as the records go, I live in Florida & there was a record shop when I was in high school (2004-2008) that had every LP of Bob Marley from Catch A Fire (1971)- without the Zippo lighter jacket, that would be a collector's item to Talkin Blues & Songs of Freedom (1991 and 1992 respectively). I just didn't buy the albums. Do I regret it- yes/no. Yes because it would have enhanced/enriched my collection. No because after a while, even the best of systems (turn tables, cassette decks, CD players) give out. Once the needle is worn out on a turntable, its hard to replace it. Besides that- this is old school method of playing much (which I am accustomed to) because I myself have a few LPs' some cassettes and about 100=200 CDs'= music is a hobby of mine along with reading books, magazines & newspapers- even things from Google News, CNN, BBC.... you name it, I am covered!!!

Bob s music was inspirational, he carried black people from four corners of the world during hard times with his music, whilst facing racism in the UK, during 70s 80s and 90s in our hearts we would carry the words of his songs like:
    Don't Worry About a Thing
    Buffalo Soilder
One drop whereby the lyrics take you straight back to Jamaica in our minds
    His music was very inspirational

The truth is always the truth! He expressed it with his art is kinda like a reminder and to feel better. A illusion one might have can cause us to not see the truth and cause consequence to ones own peace. Hard to be against this man if u dont suffer a lot or enjoy suffering cuz of lack of love given. Ur childhood is so important to come out healthy. A person who went tru horrors where love was not there the person will suffer and cause suffering to spill to others. All about em kids, love the kids not try to put fear into them. My heart goes out to the children who has to suffer so much and not feel loved by their parents..A true horror for any kid

The rastafarian movement is a lot more than just Bob Marley. The original rastafarian movement had nothing to do with Haile Selassie, but was inspired by the man Marcus Garvey and his followers.

Daniel Bonner but the King of KINGS is coming soon and He is Black and from Africa. Garvey is Elijah.
This King is a spiritual King and He will deliver Africa and raises the Spirit of Garvey. He is The Dangerous Garvey that Marcus Mosiah Garvey prophesied of.
I have so much to tell you.

Bob should have been the ultimate uniter having an English father and an Island mother.
Being so positive and truthful and resonating with the people.
As you see the media and the "powers that be" don't want unification.
They want division among the people.
Could you imagine if all the people forgave (not forgot) and tried to actually understand each other and focused on corruption together instead of fighting amongst ourselves?
The average Englishman had nothing to do with slavery and subjugation. Even the ones who did died long ago.
The ones we should be worried about are the ones in power and making sure they are doing what's best for all of us.
We all have more in common than we think.
