Astrea is a DICE-deck-building roguelike that flips the script on deckbuilders by using dice instead of cards and an unique dual “damage” system: Purification vs Corruption. Build a dice pool strong enough to purify Astrea's out-of-control corruption and save the Star System.
The Let's Try series is a way to preview / review games in order to get my first impressions through the first moments of gameplay.

There is no "power" meta progression, to alleviate one of your worries. The game opts to offer more options rather than more power, and all runs start from a blank slate! The only exception is you do get to start with a blessing after your first run with a character, but that was done so as to not overwhelm people with options on their first run.
Also there are combat speed/animation skip options to make runs a good amount quicker if one is finding them too long.

I remember watching this a year ago or so... An idea about this sort of hit me today: does this still only have d6? I notice how quick players are to start skipping instead of adding more, strategically sensible but less fun.
I wonder if it'd be improved by also having the d4, d8, d12, maybe d20 (though that might visually be tricky). The idea behind it is: to Incentivize adding new dies to the pool more: the dies you get from enemies tend to be smaller, while you start with bigger ones. The smaller the die, the better improving a face on it is.
@@Aphid4@ Aphid4 I don't think increasing the number of sides would necessarily make it better. I think more sides could make the game too complex, especially for the enemies. Instead of having roughly 3 to 6 things an enemy could possibly do it could scale up to 5-10 which could be very difficult. Also, I think 1/6th feels like the right probability to actually get the role you want. if the probability were 1/20 (I realize this is the worst case) even with rerolls some of those big hits would never come. It could be okay with different dice but the game would require significant rebalancing.

lol - every game he plays is "god tier" or "the most insane game ever". I like him, but don't put him on a pedestal. He understands how the algorithm works and he milks it like every other content creator that is trying to be relevant and stand out.

I dont normally comment on your stuff but I watch a lot of your content. The fact that you're looking forward to this game so much and that its a great game, tells me you should do more videos on it. Playing something you love and a quality game just makes good content no matter what.

I hate power meta 😢😢😢😢 although on Hades I few it wasnt all bad, maybe because the gameplay is so juicy and good that it doesnt matter much spending the time grinding to get stronger (of course you can win without any upgrades on hades, but im not a pro, im just a normal human hahaahha)

Wish there were more reviews of this awesome game. I haven't ever picked up a single player deck builder this quickly. It feels incredibly intuitive and each character changes the simple premise so much that i actually enjoy all of them.

@@littleleogames7537 oh the demo already did. Made me use more of my brain than Slay the Spire from the first moments, and a simple but deeeeep mechanical play. Biggest complaint with it is i couldnt play the full version, which is remedied soon!

It's such a small detail, but I love that they cleaned up the dialog in the tutorial, compared to a beta version you played a year ago. They cut some dialog that basically just awkwardly repeated "You're an Oracle of Astrea!", "Yes, I'm an Oracle of Astrea," another time.
It's a weird thing to nitpick, but the fact that they fixed it shows a great attention to detail.

I love that there are more Roguelikes incorporating dice. They add such an element to RNG that it makes it super rep;ayable.

About the run length, like stormquake said there are options to make the game faster, maybe try it out and see if it matches the length that you need for the youtube videos?

We are a small team from Brazil. Macs are super expensive here so we dont have easy access to one. (Only one of our artists have it actually)
So it would be super hard to support/debug it 😭😭😭
We prefer postponing the mac release for later when we have a better structure.

The game is good but there's not enough to it, like slay the spire it's just the same three levels over and over but with more options to make it harder each time you win. It's not fun after you beat it the first time, it's just repetitive as hell. After I watched the video at the start of the game I assumed you'd beat one world and move onto the next, but you don't! You just play the underwater world over and over 🙄 I only had to finish it once and now I'm bored with it.
