LOVE that you reacted to Modern Lovers. One of my favorite bands of all time. Almost no one reacts to them. So kudos to you. Would love to hear another one!
"Roadrunner" is from the Modern Lovers' self-titled debut album (recorded in 1972 but not released until 1976)...it's a terrific album from start to finish, full of great, catchy songs...there's a great, droll sense of humor throughout the lyrics, and it's just fantastic. Music critic Ira Robbins called it "one of the truly great art-rock albums of all time."
Thanks so much for your reaction. A bit surprised Savio didn’t like the U2 song, glad you both enjoyed the Modern Lovers and The B52s. A little info on the Modern Lovers , yes they are from Boston Massachusetts. The lead singer Jonathan Richman has had a long solo career and appeared in the movie “There’s Something about Mary” He was the guy with the guitar constantly singing the theme song. They keyboard player Jerry Harrison would later join the talking Heads and the drummer David Robinson joined The Cars. There was an attempt by some legislators to make this song the official song of Massachusetts. Glad planet Claire made your day. You guys also made my day!
Massachusetts of course is a state in the Northeast United States (New England). Route 128 (AKA Interstate 95) is known as "America's Technology Highway." Many MIT Graduates started small high technology companies along the 128 beltway. Stop and Shop is a local grocery chain.
Hey just remember: She drove a Plymouth Satellite, Faster than the speed of light. I drove a Plymouth Satellite back in the day. It didn't go faster than the speed of light but it did haul ass.
This is the only reaction I've seen to Roadrunner! Thank you! It's an important song influenced by the Velvet Underground and an influence on a lot of punk bands.
Modern Lovers is my favorite album of all time. Other people have commented with background on them, band members and things. Also, Joan Jett did a cover of Roadrunner, and The Sex Pistols attempted to. And David Bowie did a version of another song by them, Pablo Picasso. Glad you enjoyed Roadrunner, it is a song of pure joy. And Planet Claire does kind of sound like a horror movie theme. It and Rock Lobster are my favorites by them.
It's not vintage U2 in terms of lyrics, but this is a pretty early song of theirs. In terms of the music, there is definitely a good driving rhythm and inventive chorus. I quite enjoy the song and see it as a sign of U2 refining their art at the time, but yet to quite perfect it.
That U2 song is from their second album called "October." I really like it, but it is definitely more an acquired taste. Their first two albums sound very new wave and alternative. The next album after this was "War" and that was their first big hit, and had more of the arena rock / classic rock sound that they became better known for. People don't realize the band has been around for 40 years. I got their first album when I was 15 yrs old so I grew up with them.
Good to see you both enjoyed this song. It was made in a lighthearted sense to entertain the audience and that's what it delivers. If you evr fell inclined to hear another one of thier songs I recommend "Rock Lobster".
Modern Lovers = My Heart 💕
Driving past the Stop&Shop... Route 128 by the powerlines... the turnpike... the power of AM radio. Simple things. Great song. You got it.

How can one not smile listening to the B-52s. So quirky, yet layers of sound!

The B-52’s are such a fun band. They’ve produced a lot of great stuff. Fun story behind them starting the band. Thanks!

U2 has SO many better older songs than this one. I'd suggest I Will Follow, Gloria, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Two Hearts Beat as One, Bad, to name a few.
Yes that’s correct - Kate Pierson did a voice-over on the high-pitched instrumental. You are hearing a human voice :)
Jason Isbell and the 400 unit - If We Were Vampires.
Dire Straits - on every street
I like U2 but completely agree this is definitely not their best.
You guys should check out The Seekers, I think you'd like them =)
Not knowing the Modern Lovers has nothing to do with region, nobody knows who they are in North America as well.

When U2 is the worst band on the list. Nice requests and reactions.
