Instead of relying on storm shelters people can build houses with brick walls and concrete terrace which can withstand tornadoes. I will be very happy if someone replies this comment.
Check out video of the minor tornado that struck Britain. I believe it was an F-2. It tore through those brick houses like nobody's business!!! There are so many factors when a tornado hits your home. This isn't a hurricane. The twisting motion, the drastic, immediate changes in pressure that causes the structure to implode and the most devastating of all...flying debris. When your roof is impacted by a car or truck travelling at a force greater than 200 mph good luck! Even those brick walls, subjected to those forces will cave. If you would like an example other than the British tornado check out Plaza Elementary school. The walls there were concrete block. And it was those concrete blocks that fell on and crushed the students huddled inside.
Everything would need to be underground or windowless thick reinforced concrete and steel bomb shelters. It would not be very pleasant living conditions.
I would suggest you look into dome and earthship homes specifically built and anchored to withstand tornados. even the strongest brick or concrete will crumble in a tornado. look at entire well built towns razed to the ground. only 1 earthship home in Florida made it through hurricane Micheal. it was reinforced with hurricane ties and more.there's videos of it.
I know this is a 9 year old video but I hope you've done a redesign on the the way the door opens. They should open inwards period that way it will be less likely to get blocked.
I believe the back door hatch opens inward.as long as you have at least one inward door you'll be alright, assuming someone isn't so fat they can't fit, but they can at least holler for someone to move the junk in front so you can get out . My concern is the anchoring and the hinges on them. 99% of all deaths in shelters are door failures.
if a tree falls in front of the door, you can't get out because the door opens out. good luck trying to get our best friend heavy out of the emergency hatch. His nickname isn't heavy because he's a little guy. how is this pod anchored?
Fabulous, but I’m pretty sure (and just guessing by seeing him standing next to it) but that “4 man shelter” might only hold 2 people of his size due to the fact they would have to be in the squat position because the shelter is not tall enough. It would’ve been nice also to have shown the inside of the shelter and the points of interest inside.
4 man? Nope. Maybe 4 kids… and what keeps this secure on the ground? Didn’t talk about an anchor system, imagine being in a washing machine tub in a tornado 🌪
I've seen video of a tornado picking up a railroad locomotive. I doubt these shelters would be heavy enough. You really have to be underground to be 100% safe.
I live in an upstairs apartment... can you design a SaftTpod that is both portable and can be stored upstairs in my apartment? Using locks so that it can be folded down and when I put it back up to use for a tornado I can use pad locks, it would come with, to lock it into place so it is 100% secure on the ground from its folded position to its unfolded position. I think this is a great idea. and in case of a tornado I can take it downstairs outside. No ditches are near where I live. and I have no neighbors downstairs or a basement. I can take it outside in case of a tornado--keeping my cats safe inside and me. Set it up. Get inside. I think it would need to be dome-shaped, I may have to lay on the ground in this case so the portable SafeTpod creates a ditch for me to lay inside so-to-speak.
These companies are either shady or not that bright. I tend to not trust a company that hides their base prices until you call them. This video was missing prices, interior, and mph withstand limits...pass.
A beautiful metal coffin for people who would like to spend a little more money than a wooden coffin. The thing cannot withstand a hurricane when even trucks and containers are whirled through the air like straws.
Every home should be mandatory to have a storm shelter, and fenced in yard, stupid house code, is more interested in hand rails, steps, and ramp inclines....wish they'd revise codes, for storm shelters and fenced in yards.
Death in a Can LOL that will get ripped out of the ground with most tornados. I've seen a bank vault get falt by tornados and those are built way better than those
What happens if an F5 hits that pod, unless your under ground that thing's gonna be sucked up or flying through the air, ever watch the one that hit Moore, trucks looked like crumpled up metal, mine weighs 6800 lbs
Not true. There are many documented cases of EF4 and EF5 tornadoes wiping whole neighborhoods’ slabs clean...except for those who had above ground shelters. Those people came through unscathed, with the shelter being the only thing still attached to their slab.
WRONG. MANY people have died in below ground shelters Marc. Drowned, buried and no air, etc. Above ground shelters that are certified have never failed
Ive seen arial pictures of some cat 5 tornados. It looks like to me that nothing above ground is safe. Not even the payment on the road or slabs. Im still not sure about what type i will get. Im looking at above ground bolt down round ones but not sure. Money is a factor.
Not true. There are many documented cases of EF4 and EF5 tornadoes wiping whole neighborhoods’ slabs clean...except for those who had above ground shelters. Those people came through unscathed, with the shelter being the only thing still attached to their slab.
Finally.. somebody made one of these with a secondary escape hatch that opens in..because all of these things that have doors that open out ..if something heavy falls in front of the door you're trapped until someone saves you.. you should also keep a battery operated sawzall with wood and metal blades inside in case you open that hatch and it's blocked by something 🤷
I was thinking the same. with my luck, a forked tree would block the door and hatch, and pull live wires down with it right on top of my metal spaceship. survive the tornado but electrocuted to death when exiting the electrified shelter. Can they at least line the inside and handles with rubber?
Theyre not secured to the ground enough. They would easily get picked up and moved. The door should always swing IN, not out. Even with a little escape hatch in the back. Overall BAD DESIGN. Wouldnt trust my family in this POS.
Even if no tornado ever shows up, these would be handy in protecting you from giant sewing needles.

Was this video taken during a tornado?
LOL!
It’s from 2012 what do you expect
So funny
Video mic not covered from wind. Moronic for a company promo vid.
what irony ...the wind
Wondering how it's anchored. If not anchored correctly, you just bought yourself a space capsule without a parachute, lol.
oh man that made me laugh lol
most of these don’t even have a bottom, a useless contraption with one-way ticket to Oz

😅😄
I can't see this surviving any tornado bigger than a F2 and THAT is being generous!

The new tiny house movement a few years from now.

Tornados take brick homes and level it to the ground, nothing left but the slab. I have seen it more than once.
Monolithic poured, reinforced 5000psi concrete, with two exits built into a hillside.
