Took mine out of my w212 today, as it was making that high pitched 'squeal' sound, albeit faint. Blew it all out, Used silicone PB blaster on the top and bottom bearings, rotated it and kept applying lubricant until it seemed smoother to me. Reinstalled, and no more painful sounds for now. Easy job, thanks for the video it helped to watch this then do the job saving me time
Just did mine. Works perfectly now. Stronger current and quieter. 13 years old tomorrow, it was time. Quote from Mercedes was 1060.00 euros. I also placed the kick panel correctly. They didn't manage to get the rear clip into its hole.
@@MB212 No-no, it's totally fine, mine is not better. 😅 What I mean is, WD-40 is a water displacer, and from what I know you should not be using it as a lubricant. It will replace the remains of the original lube and work great at first, but it evaporates quickly, leaving the bearing completely dry. It's good for cleaning, getting rusty stuff moving again, etc, but you need to use some actual grease after that.
That’s sounds reasonable! I only heard about this WD-40 on forums and from Benz owners so likes to show it for a temporary (repair) but I did not bother to reuse this fan as you say I would probably not work for so long. Guess is kinda hard to get some kind of grease inside there, but not sure. Did not want to reuse this and have to remove it again after a while.
the cheap sleeve bearings are too tight (hard to spin!) and the Bosch OEM lubricant evaporate in a hurry. I lubbed both top and bottom sleeve without removing the balanced white blade assembly by using a bent cloth hanger with couple drops of engine oil. 👍
Nice way to solve the issue. I changed whole unit did not feel to put back it again and I not buy oem and that’s probably good when thinking about it all oem units seems to have a lot of problem. Hopefully this aftermarket are better.
@@MB212 my understanding is that Bosch parts are purposely engineered to fail in specific ways to create repeat business opportunities. Every W212 part has to be short lived: soft timing chains, weak tensioners seals leaky crankcase breather valves .... It is NO surprise once you know what to expect 👍
Your probably into something there! This fan unit bearing should be possible to construct in other way even if I’m not a mechanical engineer is not seems right that this part would fail this fast. Had contact with a mechanical engineer and he liked to study this unit so I probably going to get some better information to share later on 👍
@@MB212 interesting to investigate this blower fan motor. Mine was going bad at 30kMi, the sleeve bearings were DRY and too TIGHT even after oiling both top and bottom. I was surprised to realise made in Europe Bosch quality can be lower than "made in china" grade 😭
@@glasser2819 I just bought a W212 rear window viper and it broke in a few months, because it's frame was so thin it looked like a fingernail thick. You can only expect this quality from chinese, but when BOSCH does it, it shows how cheap they wanna be sometimes. So BOSCH wants to make shit, and china manufacturers try to improve.
I put in an NRF and it's making a ticking sound. Now I clean and lube the Mercedes original I removed. That one never made noise but sometimes it didn't activate...
@@MB212 ohhh so this is not an option if one is gone re-use it. Anyways are you happy with your new fan? I mean the noise level, how do you compare it with the oem one? I got a behr one today but it is sooo whiny and nosiy. I think they sent me a faulty one.
But you really not need to cut the cables if you like to reuse because you could put some WD-40 and put it back in the car if you like to try it out. Bit more noisy in the beginning for some reason could be because listen more carefully after change but now I don’t think about it. Sound it’s like the old unit when it was in better shape. Behr should be good it’s same as OEM for how long have you use the new unit?
@@MB212 I tried putting some wd-40 but it was not as silent as i wanted it to be so i decided to replace. I need to remove whole glovebox everytime i want to do someting with motor, my model does not let me to turn it all the way around. Some part belongs to glovebox blocking it in the middle of the turn. Anyways i just installed it and it was so whiny especially at level four. Used like 10 mins and i did not bear it anymore and dismantled again. I will upload a video, would be verry happy if you have time to watch and comment it :)
Dealer wants over $700 plus tax here in Canada for a new one, just for the part. Aftermarket starts at about $140 but not sure how good they are at that price.
Finally I've been waiting for a video like this👍....Happy New Years everyone 🎆🎉

Very similar to the BMW E90 series blower. Just fixed my BILs blower motor with a cleaning and lubing the bearings.
Very informative video, thanks a lot! WD-40 is not a lubricant though.
Thanks! Got ya, my English is not always on top ☺️

Sir, how did you manage to detach this two cable from the plug&connector to use them with a battery?
Wire cutter. Not going to reuse this fan so that’s why I clipped them.
