Lol... I practice a style of Kung fu , Choy lay fut which is a southern style (mainly).... What you do is a more rigid version...We do kick more than a lot of kung fu ....It's cool to see others enjoying martial arts... No matter how different ... The names might be different...but I see similarities ....I also see major differences...Keep it up...we need to preserve these styles..
"A man does not excel because of his style. It's only when a man can go outside the bounds set by his system that he can excel. If a marital artist can practice a style without being bound and limited to his particular school, then and only then can he be liberated to fission with any type of opponent. A great majority of instructors, however, blind their practitioners and brainwash them into believing only their school of training is best" Dan Inosanto, 1972
@空手家 I agree wuth the different styles but nowadays kumite has been the 'karate'. That's what is saddening, it's meant to be self defence, not a competitive sport in which you give points
What a great format!!! I love the blending of instruction, friendly challenge, banter, and detailed explanations. I'm looking forward to seeing more of these from you both!
In both kung fu and karate, clinch fighting is an available tool to learn. In my baguazhang school's "syllabus of movement" if you will, the Fire Palm introduces knees and elbow fighting with clinch applications while Heaven Palm handles standing grappling body mechanics. So Muay Thai could be matched so long as the practitioner is honest about their training and isn't neglecting athleticism.
That's not to say that it wouldn't help, but a random guy is not gonna stand there after you grab his wrist, nor can you ask him "hey punch me with your right hand right below my chin" I believe that all martial could benefit from "real life senairio" practices.
Thanks above video. Although am studying Shotokan Karate from last few decades still I do believe that every martial arts depends upon the practitioner how much depth he having in his style of martial art in practical approach.
Great vid as usual! We train in "tiger style" but we take and make completely brutal. My instructor and myself, being now 54, have been in many fights as younger men and also bouncers. We find that Tiger Style combined with Tradition Karate Power is extremely effective in real situations. Our system, or I should say my instructor's system, is also simple to teach students that are simply looking for self defense and not a full blown Martial Arts program. Like a real fight, nothing we do is fancy. We try to train for real life situations. And just an fyi, we are not really proud of our past, but, the 70's and 80's were a different time and place and wisdom comes with age. We also incorporate nose hooks, eye gouges, era pulls, biting, etc, whatever will help someone get out of a real life attack and get to safety. Much Respect Jesse. Your vids are open minded and great!
I think all styles of martial arts has their merits and can be devastating against an attack whether it be kung fu or karate. It all depends on the person. It's really awesome to see the 2 different areas of martial arts comparing not to see which is better but to show there are many ways to reach the peak of the mountain all of us martial artists climb. Ty Sensei Jesse and Sensei Ando.
I enjoyed the Tiger/Crane as I am am old school "Kung Fu Theater" nerd. Jeet Kune Do or BJJ would be interesting (taken for granted that you got taken down).
Speaking only for myself, until you have actually experienced having your face eaten off, it is very easy to dismiss the classic forms. By your 3rd or 4th face it REALLY starts to sting. And good luck going out on a date for a few weeks. Try as hard as you want to steer the conversation but in the end it will always come around to " So...where is your face?"
Hi Jesse, Everyone has their own experiences. In my case I started with Karate and also tried Kung fu. Their is one realization which comes from within our body's reaction. For me I could not generate enough power in my strikes using Kung fu. After, 10 years I had the opportunity to have friendly sessions with Special forces and getting introduced to Krav Maga. Though I could identify some of the Krav Maga 'Burst' principles with old Shito Ryu, the overall experience changed the way I now see self defense and attack. Just a request could you have a session with Krav Maga? Not to judge but to get new perspectives.
Loved the white crane stance in the middle of the application. I learned a form from white crane style called hak kaku and I am struggling with the bunkai because I was only taught the embusen, but with this demo I'm going to start expanding my search for good applications.
The moves were very well done this time but realize that The crane style is also in Kung Fu in the end it all comes down to which fighter reads the other fighter better and has better timing and technique, the reality is anything can happen in the flash of a second and fights can switch instantly from being controlled by one fighter to the other
can you make a video showing karate defenses against boxing? particularly boxing combinations where it is extremely difficult to isolate one specific punch during the flow of the combination
hello from caracas, Venezuela. I have a cuestion: why the kung fu fighter uses a karate uniform, his belt in in the centrer instead of using it on the left? and also, he used the word "sensei" instead the word "sifu"?
7:45 ...and break...immediately, or let your friend tap if it's in training. This made me belly laugh, I wasn't expecting the comedic timing there. Tack!! 🙂
The crane wing is very similar to a technique we use in Wing Chun called Pak Sao (to parry) and then an eye gauge/poke. Then again, WC is based on the movement of a crane and snake.
I see what you are saying Karate-Man, my concern is that when youre student catches the leg, he doesn't lower his stance and step in on the strike. Proximity limits the whipping force of your crane-inspired counter, and without stepping in the tiger practitioner is not prepared to execute the take down. Any followup attacks you do while the leg is held exposes a vulnerability to the takedown, the tiger practitioner rotating in the waist while driving in and down. Also, a joint lock is a dangerous proposition to use against the Tiger practitioner. You are essentially trying to out-grapple an aggressive counter-grappler. I would research the Lohan Tiger Taming form, as this style was developed extensively to deal with southern Chinese marauders skilled in these tiger techniques. Reverse engineer the From into a Karate Kata, and you will see the non-linear allpication of these moves and their application.
At 6:45; Going more diagonally (forward-left) is even better, because you are also kinda spiral-breaking the arm sideways while he's going down. Such is the true Gentle Art, I think :) Great videos, thank you Master Nerd!
Jesse sensei. I'm curious where did you learned all of the "traditional" karate stuff?, since today is really uncommon to find places like that (besides okinawa I think), and the mayority are for Sports karate.
The "parallel universe"! Awesome comment. I have never had a well executed roundhouse kick to the ribs caught, and if it is well executed you're breaking a rib or two. Good luck then. Great demonstration of practical karate fighting applications.
Muay thai or boxing next? Also I am thinking to turn my roof into a small dojo to practice karate more because my dojo is 30 minutes from where I live and I can only go weekends.
Derp Turtle I've been planning on making my garage one. What kind of equipment/design were you looking at? Mine will have most of it's equipment as wall mounted stuff to have space for kata. Wooden Dummy, one of those cheap wall mount BOB dummys from Alibaba, iron wall bag, and then after that I wanted to just get all the weapons I wanted to learn.
Pugglen Now I am thinking to cover the floor with mats then putting my dummy (it's similar to BOB) and some equipements like jumping rope or dumbells Maybe I will put other things later
i like watching your stuff... I practice Chinese martial arts but like your open approach to martial arts... most people think kung fu is all flowery and delicate but there are many aggressive styles, loved the trip to find roots ok karate in china!
how can I compare the techniques of wing chun with karate. because I believe I'm a student in front of martial arts. and know I'm interested on wing chun. so please let me know how can I fly over the wing chun with karate.... oss
Hi Jesse, For variation's sake: After the elbow lock you apply a shiho nage, backwards as is customary in aikido. You mention that going straight down would be just testing pain tolerance. Now, as a variation try moving the hand/wrist sideways away from the shoulder, like you did in the final lock. That will be beyond anyone's pain tolerance because resisting will dislocate the shoulder. If it's intended as a throw then it can be a forward one; a somersault. So, word of warning to others who read this, this is only for practioners with a good feel for their partner, who must be proficient in falling. Keep the video's coming!
I had no idea you lived in Sweden. Your English is so good that I thought you lived in the United States and came here when you were 10. You speak a second language like a native.
and when is the fight between these two awesome masters? I would love to see it, first time I watch a video of the karate man, I remember quiting karate because I thought it was not so effective, but I think the moves suit well my style, I'll start watching his videos and practice some techniques with a friend.
I love your channel as well as I practice Karate. I think I love to learn more karate stuff than seen how to defende against other martial arts styles. Also love to see more videos on weapons and self defense techniques in the future. Thank you :)
What are you gonna do if a teakwondo practictioner starts attacking you with super fast deadly turning kicks that is uncatchable beacause its too strong
No hate but in competitive mma wrist grabs into joint locks are a rare phenomenon. But other than that did you see that Lyota front kick for a VItor KO. Karate is some cold striking. Ice cold.
I noticed you have a three-sesctioned-staff in your dojo. Is that an Okinawan weapon as well? What do the Okinawans call it? The Chinese call it "San- Jie- Kun".
I am a karate practioner myself, and at 1:55, i would like to know how the kung fu sensei would use the technique against a mae-geri (frontkick) .It's a very fast & hard kick, and trying to grab it, wouldn't be a good idea. I think most karate practioners whos smart, would prefer and start kicking a mae-geri instead of the mawashi-geri.
Finally get around to watching this video and you most certainly sound like a Sensei! So how about karate vs. Capoeira? I would love to see what techniques you could use against Capoeria.

Let's see you defend yourself against a sumo wrestler.
Could you do a video about karate and taekwondo I would be happy to see that sir

I totally agree with you. I mean I don’t like the way how Kumite of karate works. The point system and all that stuff
Marital Artist :DD
@空手家 I agree wuth the different styles but nowadays kumite has been the 'karate'. That's what is saddening, it's meant to be self defence, not a competitive sport in which you give points
Truerer words have never been said, they've been applied. Men such as Bruce Lee and the evolution of mma proved that
I love cross-disciplinary videos. There's so much to learn from each other. Never take your own brand too seriously.
I would say, take it seriously, but not as the only way
It's always fun to see MA not taking themselves too seriously. Good job guys!
+Dennis Wan Thank you! 😄👍
Sensei Arson? I bet his Kung Fu technique is on fire!!!
Pun intended
The sun fire style
6:25 This Shiho-Nage, a classical Aikido-Technique! I love it, when i see that all Martial-Arts are connected somehow
"fancy karate kicks" LOL In my traditional style, we have like 3 kicks and none of them are over the waist.
Which style is your style?
"...if somehow he manages to catch my awesome karate kick - and survive!" LOL! I love your style, excellent job!!!
What a great format!!! I love the blending of instruction, friendly challenge, banter, and detailed explanations. I'm looking forward to seeing more of these from you both!
Tigerpaws9097826 Thanks for the support!
I'd like to see you defending against Muay Thai and BJJ
BJJ? You strike someone that does BJJ they have to be able to take a beating otherwise it doesn't work. Muay-Thai hover I would like to see as well.
I have a ton of respect for these martial artists but all things being equal a wise person puts their money on the Muay Thai or BJJ guy.
That's not to say that it wouldn't help, but a random guy is not gonna stand there after you grab his wrist, nor can you ask him "hey punch me with your right hand right below my chin" I believe that all martial could benefit from "real life senairio" practices.
The Gracie family already showed this by challenging martial arts masters all over Brazil.
muay thai with shane from fight tips
Liquidcadmus but shane did go pro in thailand plus he's a certified mentor
Thanks above video. Although am studying Shotokan Karate from last few decades still I do believe that every martial arts depends upon the practitioner how much depth he having in his style of martial art in practical approach.
Instead of seeing what style is better, i learned two awesome moves to practice. Both of your channels are sure making miss my karate days.

Parallel World 😂😂 Nothing could stop the Mawashigeri 🥋
@omar ben salem than you can combine them both, and it'll be deadly!
In a parallel world they would deflect the kick and do a spinning back fist to the head at the same time as deflecting the kick
I would like to see you defend against a student of Tang Soo Do. My master told my class that TSD is 20% Kung Fu from northern China.
I think all styles of martial arts has their merits and can be devastating against an attack whether it be kung fu or karate. It all depends on the person. Wonderful format, Sensei Ando!!! Cute, funny, clear as a bell!

I knew come guys that practice animal styles ,they try to apply them in open martial arts competition , now they all practice sanda
Hector Aplicano sheesh animal styles work better on the streets not in the streets
Very awesome video!! Respect to both, Karate & Kung Fu

This inspires me to learn a traditional karate kata based on white crane.
wahey! for all this time, I've been subbed to both of your channels!
and now this team up!
great fun and respectful video.
JBL Asutavario Awesome! Thanks!
BOTH SENSAI ARE A MASTERS OF THEIR OWN TECHNIQUES. GOOD JOB..

can you make a video showing karate defenses against boxing? particularly boxing combinations where it is extremely difficult to isolate one specific punch during the flow of the combination
I also believe that no one can beat you jesse. You are the best
This Kung Fu technique is on fire
Is it wrong that when I hear "Animal Style" that I think of In N Out burger?
Mr.jesse what's the name of the shakuhachi flute music in your videos ? Sounds great
could you do a defense video against wing chun techniques, for example chain punches?!
that was awesome both of you guys how about Wing Chun and Thai boxing to defend against
the claw wont be on slow mo though, and if he practiced using Wing Chun wrists, it may slip around your grip and still strike you at some point
I only practice Jeet kune do
What about you?
This is super interesting! We do the exact same movement in Hapkido here in Korea
This is one of my favorite videos yet! Would love to see this done with Muay Thai and BJJ

How would you defend against repetitive low kicks to the shin in Muay Thai? I'd love to watch a video on that!
I have trained in both Okinawan karate and Tae Kwan Do. What can you do against Tae Kwan Do?
Can you make more videos like this? Karate vs other styles

Was going to saw that tiger ckaw users are normally okay against arm joint locks, but I recognize you were first!
Well said,
At 6:45; Going more diagonally (forward-left) is even better, because you are also kinda spiral-breaking the arm sideways while he's going down.
Hey Jesse, what about the unarmed ninja combat?
Can they surpass ur techniques?
Great vid.👍🔥👍🏾🥊
kung fu is soooo immensely huge, you have to make a few hundred videos to include the entirety of kung fu.
But that was sick not gonna lie
You're so funny. Your vids are such a joy to watch.
@Jesse Enkamp, where are you from?
Speaking of Kicks Jesse san, could you do a video showing the kicking methods of old school karate?
This guy makes me wanna learn karate, one day if I visit sweden I'll definitly take a moment and visit his dojo
Really like this guy! Great channel!
Brilliant stuff from Jesse.
Sensei jesse... I really loved ur video... I want to see karate defending against muat thai & jeet kune do
Love the video! You guys are great!
Both are excellent examples of traditional arts. Thank you for mentioning the birth of karate is in kung fu😊 I recognise the similarities.
We definitely need more videos like this for the community. Love it
The "parallel universe"! Awesome comment. I have never had a well executed roundhouse kick to the ribs caught, and if it is well executed you're breaking a rib or two. Good luck then. Great demonstration of practical karate fighting applications.
awesome job sir. love traditional Karate
Awesome job Sensei, i love both of your channels =)
Jesse, what do you think about Kyokushin Karate?
I just memorized every little step to this technique and could repeat it from start to finish my god is it deadly 💀
Muay thai or boxing next?
Also I am thinking to turn my roof into a small dojo to practice karate more because my dojo is 30 minutes from where I live and I can only go weekends.

Karate Tiger. Raaaawwwwrrr how cool is this. man I love this. if like to see more defences against multiple styles and systems. Great video.
how can I compare the techniques of wing chun with karate. because I believe I'm a student in front of martial arts. and know I'm interested on wing chun. so please let me know how can I fly over the wing chun with karate.... oss

Bert 0324 Absolutely, a favorite of Steven Seagal 😎 Thanks for chiming in! 👍
Awesome video! really liked the idea, please do taekwondo!!
Väldigt fint golv. Och perfekt för karate träning, (bra, städat)
You're hella funny you said "my awesome kick" 😂
Awesome moves 👍thanks Jesse
Hey how do we defend our hand getting snapped in that way?
omg!!! you both are so awesome!!!
muay Thai next, plz😀
Arman Mehrukh Thanks very much!
Hey Jesse what KARATE style do u belong to?
I want to learn from u.
I had no idea you lived in Sweden. Your English is so good that I thought you lived in the United States and came here when you were 10. You speak a second language like a native.
Sensei ..you are really marvellous.. respect
Its better to meet you both sensei Jesse Enkamp and kung fu Ando Mierzwa face to face
great techniques can you post a video of you shadowboxing your techniques such as punches, elbows, kicks, and footwork
and when is the fight between these two awesome masters? I would love to see it, first time I watch a video of the karate man, I remember quiting karate because I thought it was not so effective, but I think the moves suit well my style, I'll start watching his videos and practice some techniques with a friend.
Loco Gio Motocroz Awesome! Train hard and have fun! 😄
The trick is to still be friends AFTER practice! :)
I’m enjoying these videos
I love your channel as well as I practice Karate. I think I love to learn more karate stuff than seen how to defende against other martial arts styles. Also love to see more videos on weapons and self defense techniques in the future. Thank you :)
What are you gonna do if a teakwondo practictioner starts attacking you with super fast deadly turning kicks that is uncatchable beacause its too strong
I'm just wondering, what style of karate do you train and teach?
No hate but in competitive mma wrist grabs into joint locks are a rare phenomenon. But other than that did you see that Lyota front kick for a VItor KO. Karate is some cold striking. Ice cold.
I noticed you have a three-sesctioned-staff in your dojo. Is that an Okinawan weapon as well? What do the Okinawans call it? The Chinese call it "San- Jie- Kun".
I am a karate practioner myself, and at 1:55, i would like to know how the kung fu sensei would use the technique against a mae-geri (frontkick)
.It's a very fast & hard kick, and trying to grab it, wouldn't be a good idea. I think most karate practioners whos smart, would prefer and start kicking a mae-geri instead of the mawashi-geri.
Howdy! Kung Fu practices a front kick, too! So, whatever works for you, works for us! :)
Finally get around to watching this video and you most certainly sound like a Sensei! So how about karate vs. Capoeira? I would love to see what techniques you could use against Capoeria.
a Boxing Upercut Combo
Me encantaria ver esto aplicado a la tecnica 5 espadas de kenpo karate :) ya que es una de las mas queridas en ese estilo
It would be very interesting to see how you would handle capoeira. Specifically the regional style
Thank you Jesse

I often struggle with envisioning an attacker when doing kata. These kinds of videos have helped . Thanks Jesse.
WOW THIS VID WAS AWSOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 I LOVE IT
I couldn't stop laughing at 8:31 dude must have thought he will loose his arm :-D
loved both of them
Sensei Jesse, what styles does traditional karate include? Does it include Shotokan, Kyokushin, Okinawan, Goju Ryu? Thanks! OSU!
goju ryu, shorin ryu and uechi ryu are traditional okinawa karate. shotokan and kyokushin are japanese karate.
