Are you interested in extreme macro photography?
I have a 2:1 macro and I don't like to shoot dead insects 🙁 but the 5:1 is almost impossible to use handheld. Have you checked the microscope lens adapter ? I didn't have time to really look into it but maybe it's fun to make a video about that because those lenses have a much greater depth of field 😄
Incredible review Thanks for the tutorial
Stefan your going hard on the Macro and I love it! I appreciate that your showing more photos and stuff it really never gets old to be honest. Thank You!
Nice to hear! I'll keep it coming 👊
Based on your recommendation, I ordered the WeMacro and used your code. I hope it arrives safely and works as well for me as you suggest. One very minor point. What you called 'u' in μM is actually the lower case Greek letter mu (μ) which is the metric system abbreviation for micrometer, 1 one millionth of a meter or 1/1000 of a millimeter. I rather imagine most users will not be pushing the unit to its lowest step size but offering that option allows those who do to type in smaller numbers. You asked: I am interested in macro photography but so far have only shot down to about 5:1 which was really pushing my abilities with my old manual rail. In this game, that is not all that extreme. I do not shoot dead bugs but like flower parts and fungi as well as small parts of ancient coins. Owning a WeMacro will make us search for new things to shoot this winter. More videos please.
One per step setting. Could set this to 2 signals to work with mirror up. For less camera shake.
This is an update to my comment 2 months ago. After using my WeMacro rail for a few weeks I would like to say that your video is the best of the bunch I have seen on RUclips. It is so good that I would REALLY like to see you post an update review more in depth and telling us what you have learned in the meanwhile. I am currently testing/evaluating results using various 'things' I already owned. I have several ways of achieving 3x (pluss or minus) and wonder if a lens like the Laowa you mention or even cheaper options would improve my results. So far, my best shots have used an old microscope lens on a bellows. (Both I have owned for decades but are still available.) Considering the limits imposed by diffraction, I wonder how buying the new lens would improve my results or ease of use.
I find that vibrations are easier to control if the WeMacro and the subject are firmly attached to the same board. To achieve control of subject positioning, consider combining you old, two direction manual rail with your suggested Z tilt unit to allow positioning the subject. When the subject is a fraction of the weight of the WeMacro and camera, it is easier to move the subject than the camera. I would love to see what you have done since this video was posted.
You might warn folks that macro is an addiction. I once liked shooting 1:1 but then I bought a Laowa lens giving 2:1. Then I bought NiSi auxiliaries that did 3:1 and started using the WeMacro to defeat the depth of field limitations). I have even done some 10:1 with another old microscope lens I have owned since college but it works at about 4mm with makes lighting hard. It is definitely an addiction starting with those innocent flower photos at 1:10 but it sure is fun. Lets see that update, please.
Thanks for the update. Ill put something together for you!
can you make a video on how to use wemacro using deskstop?
The shutter per step setting is required for many dslr’s to be able to use their mirror-up mode. I’m still using a Nikon D810 and on this body I can get around this issue by using live-view, choosing the mirror-up mode and front curtain shutter. Using this combination allows for the highest quality as the mirror is never used and not released until live-view is disabled. Of course, using the front curtain shutter gets rid of all shutter-slap induced vibrations and also allows me to still use the single shutter per step. If not using live-view, I must select 2 for this setting as the first “press” of the shutter and the second to expose the image. HDR is another use for the shutter per step setting.
I also agree that the Laowa 2.5-5x f/2.8 is an absolutely fabulous lens, I love it. Their cheap little led which mounts to the end of this lens is great too, but it sure gets hot, and quickly! Their 100mm 2:1 macro lenses are also really great lenses, and are available in all popular lens mounts. Being able to have 2:1 magnification on a lens which focuses to infinity, has the electric contacts so metadata is updated and is f/2.8 with excellent performance from f/4-f/8 are some VERY useful features which until they released said lenses, had never been done before, TTBOMK.
Great vid and great photos too. How are you preventing the movement of the bees when they’re covered with pollen? I’ve only ever shot such images handheld, never stacking, as the bees are still on the flowers, buzzing around. I’ve only shot stacks of inanimate objects. Did you freeze the bees to prevent them from moving during exposure?
Thank you very much for the well-made video! I recently bought the weMacro Slider and am really impressed with the quality. I really like your idea with the hard-shell case. Can you tell me the inside dimensions of the case? Or a link to where you bought it? Many thanks and best regards Martin
I think the case I picked up from Basspro. Just a cheap one maybe 10-12" across.
@@StefanMalloch thank you very much! So I can find the right one!
This is pretty neat!
Wow beautiful clicks bro
Great tutorial, thanks
What tripod do you use with the wemacro rail? I plan to be out in nature shooting mushrooms, so need something stable on uneven ground/soil
will this work with a GFX 100?
I think people would want the interval to be more than 1 if shooing HDR or exposure bracketing photos.
I wanted to buy a rail from mjkzz but it's been 5 days and no reply on my emails. This might seem like a really good one as well, are the steps small enough for 50x magnification?
Shuter per step for HDR it is why it is limited to 9 max
