if you cut without heating it then its ok as is. it's only if you get it too hot that it requires re-hardening. I kept placing the head into a water container to keep it cool. I'm no expert but have sources this info from other blacksmith/axe making channels.

Cool axe modification! The yellow rangie in you channel pic looks like one I owned for several years! I last saw it at the Pieman river heads.
