My uncle was on Rodney when it took on the Bismark he was 19 years of age a big task for any person on the ship after it sank the hood , Rodney ended up in Boston for a refit after the action .
At 2:00 in we see Hood in the background and by 2:01 you can just make out the crane and aircraft catapult on her stern, confirming the film's date stamp of 1931. Interesting coincidence - another instance of Hood shown under the guns of Rodney, as in the well known photo taken 9 years or so later (August 1940) at Scapa, with Renown and Repulse in the background.
It might be the sea defence installation tower on the breakwater in Portland harbour. It does look like a battleship from a distance. Actually, there is a Victorian HMS Hood sunk in the harbour to act as a defence against U boat attack.
@@Intrusive_Thought176 Huh? The pursuit of the Bismarck is well known. I don't think HMS Rodney was the best battleship ever BUT without its 16 inch guns (KGV had 14 inch) I think sinking the Bismarck would have taken much longer.
That was typical for battleships until the 1930s. The Queen Elizabeth class were only at 25 knots. Only battlecruisers were faster (but with critical defensive weaknesses).
Bismarck even more so. Wartime exaggerations. However, the fact remains that old, slow, tired out Rodney went in close and battered new, fast Bismarck to death
Explain. HMS Rodney was designed under the Washington Treaty of 1922. It intelligently maximized protection and armament plus its layout of guns forward. Yes it had to sacrifice a few knots of speed. It performed quite well against Bismarck. Doesn't seem "overrated"
A greatl ship. the beauty of rationality. Great video: I've almost been to my homeland...

I'm named after this ship.
Me too but why is the video titled HMS Rodney aka HMS Rodney?
A extra tot of rum for the winning team?
I loving❤ is beautiful😊
Wouldn't the title HMS Rodney (1931) save the aka duplication ?
I feel like Im watching Drachinifel from 1931
A powerful ship with 9 16 inch guns. Both Rodney and Nelson were too slow.
It said about 23 knots , not too bad for 1930's

Ich bin grade dran das Schwesterschiff zu bauen, die HMS Nelson in 1/200

Most overrated battleship of WW2.
