    I got these after swapping from snowboarding this season. They’re so fun and have allowed me to progress from wedge turns on day 1 to now getting that addicting g force feel on turns - very quickly! I got marker griffon bindings and some Rossi speed 90 boots after going to a boot fitter. This video helped me immensely. I was wondering if I’d regret not getting the 89ti but when you mentioned “a lot of skiers on the 89ti should actually be on the 85” I took that and ran with it knowing I’d be doing a lot of learning this year. So far I haven’t found it’s limits but can’t wait to start working on side hits and getting a bit more freeride-y to see what I can get away with! Thanks y’all!
    Btw my gf got the Atomic Maven because of your reviews too lol.

      Hey Jacob! Psyched you found this useful! Kudos to you for getting appropriate gear and not overspending on something that's not worth it for your personal skiing!

    For a level 2 intermediate primarily skiing east coast groomed terrain, would you recommend these or the Solomon stance 84?

      Tough call! I'm personally a bigger fan of the Stance, but mostly because it's offered in my size while the K2 tops out at 177.

    What binding would you suggest? My previous skies had system bindings, so I didn’t have to choose.

      We pair them with these, and they work great!

    Can’t decide between these and the black crows mirus. What are your thoughts? Thanks

    • @SkiEssentials

      The K2 is a bit more all-mountain oriented. If you're unsure of what to get, the K2 is the safer bet while the Mirus Cor is kind of a reach. The Mirus Cor makes very round carves and skis very centrally--it's kind of something you have to seek out versus the K2 that will do everything more naturally. the K2 is also about half the price, if that makes any difference.

    Awesome video! I’m a beginner/intermediate skier (just started hitting black diamonds) in the East Coast. I’m 6’ and 250 lb. I ski mostly groomers but want to start venturing off-piste. I don’t own any other skis. Would you recommend these or the Rossignol Sender Pro 90s? Thanks!

      I'd say the Rossignol offers more chance of happiness here. Great for progression and adventure with a slightly more playful shape than the K2.

    Völkl Deacon 84 was the ski of my choice, now before buying those I came across your video about the Mindbender etc. I'm an intermediate skier mostly on groomers but going off-piste from time to time. 180cm tall, so either a Mindbender 170cm or a Deacon 172? Which one is the most versatile one in your opinion and fitted to progress as a skier?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  Год назад +2

      Hi Sam! There's a lot more technology in the Deacon 84, so if you're really looking to progress, especially in regards to carving on groomers, the Deacon will be more supportive as you improve. That said, there's something to be said about how easy the Mindbender 85 is to ski, and its affordability and value. Definitely a little easier to take off trail, and perfectly suited to help you progress as a skier, it's just that you'll hit a performance ceiling more quickly. So, Mindbender you might progress faster, but would outgrow it sooner. Deacon 84 might be slower progression, but would continue to work for you for years and years and years. Both those lengths are good choices, 170 or 172 in each respective ski. Hope that helps!

      @@SkiEssentials thanks for the quick reply. That's the feedback I hoped for, thanks for making it easier for me to choose now. Just one question, if we add K2 Mindbender 90 and Völkl Deacon 80, how do these pair of ski differ from the Deacon 84 and Mindbender 85? I find it a bit confusing I must say?!

      If money isn't an issue and If your stuck on those 2 skis get the Deacon's. Sincerely someone who rides the Mindbender 85 with griffons(LowRide XL). Now you have me wondering if they make a flat version of the deacon 84🤔

    • @samnord2137

      @@SpecializedP2Ler OK good to know. So my last question, because I can't find a proper answer to that - what's the difference between the Deacon 80 and 84? Do you even notice a difference? Guess the materials are better in the 84. Read something about it some time ago.

    • @SpecializedP2Ler
      @SpecializedP2Ler Год назад

      @samnord2137 as far as I know it's pretty well the materials and the width. If I remember correctly the 80 has a layer or steel in it where the 84 has a layer of titanium in it. The other difference is the base. The 84 uses a better P-tex. Pretty much the 84 is stiffer. I can't remember If the 80 has a full sandwich sidewall. I remember it being a 3/4 length sandwich where the 84 is a full length sandwich side wall.

    Hey ! :)
    I’m 190cm 83kg, beginner + level, parallel turns okay but not carving, you think those one in 177 cm are okay ? (I really hesitate with stance 84 in 185 but I’m affraid it’s too long for my skills… I always had shorter rent skis…)

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  6 месяцев назад

      I'd go 177. Normally if you're a progressing beginner and have length hesitancy, it's best to size down.

    i’m trying to decide between these and the atomic bent 85 what would you recommend?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  5 месяцев назад

      The Bent's twin tip is a lot more amenable to creativity and playfulness while the K2's tail is more directional and locked into a turn style. If you are at all looking for a twin tip that helps you progress in creative skiing, I'd go Bent 85. If you mainly stick to directional skiing, the K2 will have more to offer.

  • @sleuth2077

    How would you compare these to the Ranger 84's?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 месяца назад

      The Ranger has more freeride and freestyle influence to it while the K2 falls more into the directional and traditional side of the spectrum. If creativity and playfulness are part of what you're looking to do, the Ranger will have more to offer, but if you're looking for a simple yet energetic ski for on-trail turning and some adventure, the K2 is a wonderful ski at a great value.
