For me, the world has not yet scratched the surface of the Filipino musicality. For us Pinoys, music is laughter, tears, inspiration and everything in between. It doesn't matter if we can carry a tune or not, we are music lovers. My theory why Pinoys are very good singers even without formal training is that we are very good mimics. We mimic sounds (and acts) that we like and practice it to perfection. When Pinoys are born, we don't cry. We sing!😁😂
make a review of RYSSI AVILA
Absolutely! I totally agree
Yes please
Well my Father told that when I got out from my mom's tummy I didn't cry instead I sneezed 🤧🤧
Agree
Her name is Ryssi Avila. She's a finalist at Idol Philippines
Rainbow is an original song of South Border. In SB19's LA leg of the WYAT tour, Jay Durias (original South Border) played the piano for SB19 when they sang MAPA. He sometimes coaches (vocal) for SB.
Correction: Jay played at the Homecoming concert, Simon Servida did it in LA. Thanks to our fellow A’tin for reminding this lola
Jay played during their homecoming kaps the one who played in LA was Simon Servida
@@nelle7279 thanks for the correction Kaps. Mahirap na memory ng lola:-)
Morissette sang Never Enough for David Foster 6 days in a row and The Bodyguard Medly day2 to day 6 and kept wowing David Foster! Facts: Originally she has to sing for 3 days only, but it ended singing 6 whole nights because of her exceptional performance! Impeccable! Sky is the limit for Morissette! Please check these out! Thank you soo much!
Idol Philippines? I thought I saw her on TNT😭
Girl's name is Ryssi and South Border is a 90s band. Rainbow is one of their original songs.
it’s fabulous❤rainbow
I love the alto.
Let's not forget the falsetto singer. His name is Ralph Padiernos. Sadly he doesn't have a huge playlist but he should be mentioned. Khem Alia is the BG voice on the guitar. He collaborates a lot with Khel and Bugoy Drilon (the BU in Budakhel)
❤
His falsetto is 🤌
The vocalists are individual singers put up together just for this performance, and South Border is the original group who sang Rainbow during the 90s.
I remember listening to this when I was in college. I think this was originally sung by South Border. A timeless song.
oh well .. Pinoys do all types of music..
hamilton, le mez and the famous ms saigon plays got Filipinos too 😊😊😊
when it comes to music, you see Filipinos 🇵🇭 all over it!
it’s our happy pill to every emotions we have.. 😉😉😉 we just love to sing out our feelings..☺️☺️
my theory on why old music is still good music and still listened and sung in the Philippines?
it’s because the parents never lose their love fir music and listen to the songs they grew up with at home, in the car, at the office… everywhere. the kids hear it and absorb it and the songs engrave itself. that’s how music became the soul of filipinos. it’s passed on generation to generation.
i guess the american equivalent is star wars and comicbook superheroes.
for Filipinos, it’s music
and it becomes more than that… music becomes the thing that binds you to people. you remember your parents through music. you remember the friendships you made through music. you remember lost loves, lost friendships, lost times through music. you bind yourself with your partner forever through music.
it isn’t a stretch to say that in each filipino’s mind there is a movie about their life and that they know what songs are included in the soundtrack.
𝚆𝚎𝚕𝚕 𝚜𝚊𝚒𝚍!
Jaya and KZ cover of Feeling Good
Jaya, JR and Jason Dy cover of Officially Missing You.
Top tier vocals & harmonies.😊
MASTERCLASS!
The Philippines is a hub of all music genre...regardless of genre or era, we treasure it all, for us its timeless and respect all...regardles of what generation we came or is born to because this is how we are brought up, this is our culture. For the same reason, Filipinos for most especially who grew in our home country we embody that recilliancy in everything from music, work and in eveything we do in our God given life. They say we are a 3rd world country, maybe that is why we, treasure and cherish whatever we have regardless of stature and time. In a way thanks to being 3rd world, we can survive, our feet always on the ground and morales in tack.
Josh/Lucas -- Any musical journey that takes you to unsuspecting places with new delights is a worthy undertaking. Look at me, an old jazz snob. But I can't get enough of PPOP. Don't tell my bandstand buddies.
Same here. Geez. I thought it'll be all jazz for me till the day I die , but look at me now... i guess age has nothing to do with growing up... and old. Cheers !!!
Yeah you're right, Josh, it's hard to break that kind of cycle of Pop Culture Music in the Philippines that's why when SB19 introduced it to the PPop industry , they were accused of copying KPop..One good example of OPM is SB19 is Hanggang Sa Huli and TILALUHA .that kind of music where we are used to..See , there's a lot of difference when Pop Music was 1st introduced to the Philippines, it became a BIG DEAL.🤔👌👏👍😘💕💖
These Filipino artists will continue to blow you away, especially on the Wishbus. I am a fan of them. Fantastic performances all the time there! Even their jam sessions are awesome! Thank for reacting to them. They deserve international recognition! You two are great reactors ❤️
You haven't seen Repertory Philippines yet? Because we do have theater people here who sing Broadway type of songs. Leah Salonga, the original Ms Saigon is from the Philippines. She is also the voice of Mulan and Princess Jasmine.
Yes! 👍😍
Yes, please do r/vs on Lea Salonga.
Speaking of Hamilton, there are numbers of Filipino artist been a part of the production. Rachelle Anne Go is one of them.
Very common in the Philippines where a friend will bring a guitar then everybody sing together. That's how we jam in the 80's High School days. They are not a band but rather friends just wanted to enjoy. ❤
i miss this very much!
And also during the 90's high school days!😍
in every high school days.
O someone still brings guitar in class till this day and still continue to jam every class break, sometimes even the whole class sings together. It's tradition at this point XD
Agree!!! Just like PAROKYA NI EDGAR🥰❤️
Yes, Lucas! Tons of talents for Hamilton. If you remember when Miss Saigon auditioned for talents in the Philippines, they did not only pick the lead role and her understudy, they went back to London with more than half of the (singing) cast.
And won the Tony.
@@renalex99 Before the Tony, the Lawrence Olivier first.🙂
That's Original Pilipino Music (OPM). Thank you for the RV. I love this song. Beautiful message!
The guy singing in falsetto is Ralph Padiernos. He also has such a beautiful voice when not singing in falsetto. Very good control and timbre.
❤
Hope to meet you at one of our gigs. Thank you
Thanks for really appreciating Filipino talents.. and you will feel the soul and the love of music in our lives
The girl is Ryssi and was a contestent in the very recent Philippine Idol and finished as a Top 3 Grand Finalist.
I want you both also discover the Original Miss Saigon, LEA SALONGA, our first performer on International Musical Theater, and made voices of some Disney Movies, Thanks and God bless.
"Rainbow" was a song by the Band South Border. Jay Durias, their Keyboardist/Vocalist composed the music. He also co-produced SB19's hit song "Mapa."
If you like broadwat like Hamilton, try Lea Salonga's Ms. SAIGON please.
Up
I hope you can react to "Uhaw" sung by Dilaw on the Wish Bus.
yeah... we're kinda stuck in that era (70's to the 90's) not because that's what we hear all the time on the radio. it's just we really don't dig that synthetic sound in modern music.
Ryssi and Felip will both be performing at the Aquatic Beats Musical Concert today.
FINALLY!!! my most favorite wishbus performance...😊
You love John Legend? Listen to Daryl Ong’s cover of Ordinary People! ❤❤❤❤❤ Daryl respects the melody and adds the most delightful, tasteful runs! True ear candy!
To date, the ballads are much loved by Filipinos..The irony of it, we don't go to music schools and learn to sing ..It comes naturally..from the lullabies of an expectant mother to her unborn child, and to hyms a mother sing just to make her child go to school...it starts there moving forward....
The composer of this song is Jay Durias of South Border.
Jay Durias is also one of the producers for Sb19's What.
Isn’t it Mapa?
I liked this song since the 90's from the original band South Border but this group of friends jamming together created a gold from silver... Very beautiful performance from Khel and friends. ❤
Do a reaction to south boarders song kahit kailan
Thank you so much for this much-awaied RV! MP is my fave and he has covered Perfect, Lay Me Down, One Last Cry, etc. His Wish Bus performance of Bakit Ba Ikaw makes him the male title holder of Wish Bus perfs. Hope you'd do more RVs on him. Please make an RV also of BGYO performances on the Wish Bus USA and Wish Bus PH. Thanks a lot for every RV you make on our Filipino talents.
React to MICHAEL'S COVER OF LAY ME DOWN 😊
Just for your information, when Filipino babies born most of them don't cry, they sing!😂😅
Michael pangilinan lay me down and perfect please
When you get back here, i hope you get to watch one of the musicals live. Most of the cast are vocal beasts.
Thanls for featuring this artists and the song. You're the best of all . Please listen to NADARANG ryssi and michael pangilinans version you will be blown away how good they are! HOT! HOT! HOT!!!!
Try listening to daryl ong and bobby velasco's take on john legend's ordinary people. Production is very good.
Fun and very excited always waiting for your RV... THANKS guyz
Maybe half of the things you guys say should be in a podcast regarding music over the generations as they go off the tangent when it comes to “reacting” to the videos you watch, just a thought. It’s super informative but it’s probably going off tangent a bit.
I lalalove seeing Khel on your channel! 🫶 He’s been my fave ever since, before I became a fan of SB19 there’s Khel. You should also check out his covers of 90s R&B songs in his channel. Please also check out SB19’s cover of Khel’s Bakit Ba Ikaw. Those damn harmonies and Ken’s deep voice 🥰 as always, awesome reaction from both of you! Thank you 😊
When Filipinos sing, they sing with their whole soul, with feelings, not just bringing out the words.
and other people don't?
@@lolitahaze02 Sorry I do not mean any disrespect, just stating how they are trained from the start to show drama and emotions when they sing. 👍✌️
u got it right ! i was just mumbling it to myself .til i read your comment.
The thing here in the Philippines is that every sunday morning to afternoon, fm radio playing 50's 60's 70's 80's 90's hits. So thats why artist here still influence by oldies music. Our parents and uncles and grandparents always reminds us the oldies music. We respect the older generation music. For me maybe thats the reason Filipinos artist are great..
If you like riffs and runs then you should react to Daryl Ong and Kyla's cover of Weak by SWV. Thanks
The girl (Ryssi) can rap. Check her collaboration (duet) with Khel Pangilinan (again): Shanti Dope - Nadarang (Khel Pangilinan x Ryssi ) ruclips.net/video/avjrJffxqu0/видео.html
You should react to Moira Dela Torre. She is arguably the top artist now in terms of hit songs
This 🙏
I think one of our own local Rachel Ann Go ( also from Miss Saigon) was part of Hamilton she played the wife I think. Saw it in YT singing the part holding a lamp.
Watch Souhtboarder songs..(kahit kailan & love of my life)..myx live...thanks...😎😎😎
First of all, thank you for visiting the 🇵🇭! I am one of the OG’s, because i grew up with Regine, Lani Misalucha, and this band, South Border. Im nearing 50 and hearing this song brought back a sense of nostalgia. I thought the original version was great but this collaboration with individual artists was phenomenal! So much talent indeed.
I am a fan of Michael Pangilinan n Ryssa, but the original band southborder sounds more relaxing. You guys need to listen also to this original song.
This is my comfort song from South boarder and Eraserhead's "with a smile" both that I can play over and over again.
there are still a lot of music artist from ph you need to discover.try MOIRA DELA TORRE"PAUBAYA"😂
One of my faves on the Wish Bus. More Michael please, his LAY ME DOWN (Sam Smith). Also Gigi De Lana's ALL I ASK (Adele), the one where she is wearing a brown top (3+ million views). You know all the boys in Gigi Vibes sing. Check out Oyus singing ONE LAST CRY (Brian McKnight), he's amazing (it's on the Gigi Vibes channel).
You talked about PPOP and how it fits in in the Filipino music industry. Personally, I can't get into it. Yes there is some controversy going on. Some amazing legendary Filipino songwriters who wrote OPM during the 80s and 90s (the golden years) were asked recently about PPOP, and they were not too thrilled with it.
I didn't know that Hamilton was going to go to the Philippines. A Filipino singer, Rachel Ann Go, who was quite popular in the Philippines in the 90s, actually played one of the main characters on Broadway, as well as in the original West End production in the UK.
Next plssss cover by budakhel "im your angel and thank god i found you"
Glad to see you two were as taken by Ryssi as I was. For musicianship, I still believe Gigi's "Fly Me to the Moon" is right up your alley.
Hi Josh! Nice seeing you up and about!I love this song!
Up until now, Philippines is huge on radio and 80% of the time, American 70-80s songs are played (we're obsessed with classic rock and R&B). Thus the bluesy/groovy melody suck with our music (we call it OPM, Original Pilipino Music).
Filipinos loved classic music from the 80's , the younger artist also knows how to sing it..Maybe because older ones from the family prefer singing this kind of classics especially when it's on a Karaoke playlist.. That's how Filipinos are, sentimental and romantic, we love it! 🥰👍👏👌🤗💖💕💖
You wanna hear an alternative music
From the philippines?.. try the music video of "Baliisong" from Rivermaya.. you'll be surprise..
Nice reaction. Since you both love John Legend, you should check out Daryl Ong singing Ordinary People.
Try to react michael pangilinans cover of one last cry by Brian McKnight on wish bus.
Ryssi Avila (the lady in the video) and Michael Pangilinan did another collab on his channel - a cover of "Nadarang" - you might want to check it out?
Harmony heaven is Jaya, Jay R, and Jason Dy's cover of "Official Missing You" [Artist Lab]. Must watch!!!
That girl's Ryzzi, she's also a singer. She joined some singing competitions before too like TNT where Gigi also joined.
please do a reaction of iv of spades and zack tabudlo! :)
Now that is a band our reactors will be blown away. Except for Mundo, the rest of their songs are really good.
you should also react to the song's og singer the southborder
Omg.. I love South Border T.T brings back memories. I really like the band's leader (so talented arranging melodies) even though he's too strict that his vocalists kept on quitting.
Hope you get to be exposed of OPM in English... I am actually baffled since I was a kid why our English songs can't get through internationally :(
Try listening to Khel and Rhyssi singing Nadarang. They are great.
This is a cover and the original song was composed by Jay Oliver Durias. He (born August 26, 1975) is a Filipino singer, songwriter, arranger, and record producer known for his collaborations with South Border. Jay Durias is the frontman of South Border, a (Filipino) pop and R&B band that traces its roots to the southern city of Davao. South Border came into national prominence in 1996 He composed "Rainbow" for the film "Crying Ladies"; a 2003 Filipino comedy-drama film.
Jay Durias is the heart and soul of South Border.
Having braces is also in some way a form of showing financial status as it’s not always affordable for everyone. Growing up we’ve view classmates with braces as well-off
As a 90s kid growing up in San Francisco Bay Area, R&B like this was what listened to. On the radio. On MTV. On C&C Music Factory. At church showcases throughout the Bay. One reason why I’m so into music and artists of the Philippines is because they’ve kept the era of music I grew up with. Sadly, even as a Filipino, I never gave artists from the Philippines much attention growing up. But I appreciate all of them now.
The only Filipino artists I ever knew was Lea Salonga, Jocelyn Enriquez & Stevie B. 😂
you can never gauge filipinas' vocal talent by their stature. some of philippines' vocal beasts are petite women, like kyla, charice (now jake cyruz), yeng constantino, sheryn regis, dessa, nina, and jona.
Ryssi Avila, I love her cover of The Best Part there's a lyric video on RUclips
ruclips.net/video/7Y0i5y4xS1A/видео.html
Thanks again for reacting to our local artists! Appreciate the tech talk you include in your comments. Hope you hit 100k subs, by that time in a couple of weeks hope you understand we are a laid back people and love our gentle island music specific to our country in any genre. Try to listen to Gigi de Lana's Kenny Logins heart to heart cover, powerful but gentle...no need to react. 👍❤️🇵🇭
😊
looking forward for the stream... like to hear your insights about ppop. hey road to 100k subs
Omg, you guys should check her song cover titled "NADARANG." She sang it with Michael Pangilinan as well. It was dope.
Please check another collaboration of Michael and Ryssi Avila of their cover NADARANG (different genre)
I'd like to watch your reactions to one of my favorite performances on youtube, the cover of "Feeling Good" sung by Jaya and KZ Tandingan. You won't be disappointed. More power on your yt channel! 👍
Pls react Bugoy Drilon and Daryl Ong Kong maibabalik kong lang on wish bus❤
In addition to what has been said about braces, they are damn expensive in the PH. Some people get them to signify status.
Please react to The Juans and Janine Tenoso (Bakit to nangyari sa atin) at Wish Bus.thank you😊
There's a whole library of Filipino ENGLISH songs that just blows people away and the world needs to consume. All the way back from the 90's to now!
Yay, finally! Been waiting for this..
Please react next to "Say You'll Never Go" by Eric Santos with Jay R, Jason Day, and Daryl Ong (of Budakhel). I'm sure you'll love this too!
Thank you, love you guys!
This song is phenomenal in the Philippines and Michael Pangilinan and this entire crew sang it to perfection including the nuances and adlibs! ❤ I was a young girl when this song was released by South Border and the lyrics have always given me the lift the I need whenever I am going thru something difficult. Please listen to the lyrics.. And Michael is just being his fun awesome self. He is a talented artist and although he sticks to the original singer's ways, he always gives it his own flavor and character so it still ends up different in a way. He is awesome! 👌👌👌
So funny, when baby got out from Mom's tummy, the babies cry but in tune with do re mi fa so la and so on notes, Filipinos talent incomparable, Thanks and God bless
Hi Josh and Lucas....
Plz check out to
South Border's "Kahit Kailan" or "Love of MyLife"
Can you please also feature/review Sam Mangubat, California King Bed. Highly recommended. Sam Mangubat has his own channel with his name on it. Thank you so much.
This channel is simply about music and artist appreciation! You can see how they love discovering new music. Keep up the good work! 🎉
Very interesting take on the 80-esque genre... I think our musical tradition from the 1600s has been rooted in European Moorish Romantic influences. The 80s music represented the last and best musicality of pop music. I guess we're stuck there until a better tradition emerges... 🤔
Pls react to GAYUMA by ALAMAT in wish bus
They just set her chair lower than the guys next to her so the guy with the guitar at her back won't be blocked for the camera at a full frame angle/set shot.
Filipino music is so diverse you only checked around 40-50% of it you missed the half. You didn't checked the underground, indie scene yet which you can watch or listen live only on special music events that you don't usually hear on Filipino radio channels or even on RUclips or other music streaming sites.
She is RYSSI AVILA. SHE joined some singing competition but she never makes it to the top. But she is popular with her singing capabilities
Nostalgia probably plays a great role but the original of rainbow is the best for me and I sometimes get sad that this is the one that’s famous atleast amongst reactors. And I love Jay Durias especially his solo song Reward. Just a random comment.
Another one La Divas, although they are not together anymore, I missed the blending they do on their songs, it’s so good.
The last piano part is the trickling of raindrops
South Border and SB19 Felip speaks the same language BISAYA
LAY ME DOWN
MICHAEL P. COVER LIVE ON WISH BUS.
PLS PLS PLS PLS DO REACT SIR.
100% YOU GONNA LOVE IT.
THANK YOU SO SOOOOOO MUCH .
Been waiting for you to react to this! Love Michael's (and his band's) version of Rainbow! This is an original OPM song by South Border which came out in 2004. One of the composers of this song is Jay Durias who is a founding member of South Border, aside from being a singer, he is a songwriter, arranger & record producer. Jay Durias is one of the producers for SB19's What? & MAPA.
Please react to OFFICIALLY MISSING YOU by JAYA, JASON DY AND JAY-R 😊
