the biggest problem is racism with second is religion conflicts that is linked to the first. third is political which also linked to the first and second. It will never change in 50 years unless the existing adult generations are phased out.
It will fail even before it takes off. For the past 60 years both countries cant even come to any agreement to have the fast rail, water agreement or any agreement with the most corrupted country in SEA. Furthermore the education system between both countries is vastly great. the judiciary system in malaysia is also in a disgraceful shape. all government instrumentalies in malaysia is corrupted and managed by mostly uneducated personnels. The level of development between the two countries is too manifestly great. In short Malaysia is lagging far behind Singapore in all levels from education to even basic management, so how can any one say safely that bot can manage this economic zone. Simply say this projct will fail from the start and a waste of money and resourses.
As a Malaysian, I would strongly advise Singapore against putting too much hope on the enthusiasm, commitment, and political will on Malaysia's side to see these projects through. Malaysia has a dismal track record of successfully implementing major projects that require long-term and consistent commitments, much less with another country.
This Malaysian PM could not even fulfill his election reforms. Next GE there might be a change of PM. If under PN this mega project would be washed away again..😅

Malaysia never fails to supply water to Singapore since Singapore independence day even though the tariff is so little , also when Malaysia is experiencing changing of governments . This shows Malaysia strong commitment honouring an agreement. Malaysian management skills proved in managing National oil company Petronas and other companies such as Maybank , Air Asia , Sime Darby , IHH Healthcare and many more .
Get the crossing points btw the 2 countries running smoothly is key. Without the so called economic zones, prosperity will naturally come about btw the 2 places if crossings are smooth and fast. But as it is now, the poor work attitude of the immigration officers at the Johor side is a sad reflection of the Malay bureaucracy. Stamping passports at odd places or utterly rude to non Malays, and arbitrarily detaining people for days to show their power and arrogance will not invite investors. The slow clearing at the SG side presently with not all booths open seems to indicate SG wish to discourage crossings. This is a sign of talk not real intention..
This thing will work if its run by Singapore. The Malaysian government needs to let go n just support this project in order to bring the country out of its middle income trap n constant dependence on commodities which have a very short n thin value chain. They would if they are smart enough

SEZ is competing with the region to produce cheaper cost products, which is very limited. Are they value adding to establish factories here in SEZ? The competitve advantages need to be obvious to attracting investors. What are there?
Hahaha....our deal with India and China previously also not that good either. Am certain that ALL countries want the best for themselves, so at times you get some and lose more. Gamble wrongly you can say, but that's business on country-to-country level. Remember, the small fly only has so much muscle.
It was said that Singapore approach Johor many years ago but then administration don't put this project in priorities. Only when Anwar become PM and Johor Sultan become Ah Gong. The project was quickly signed and confirmed.

In Asean itself, all sorts competition brewing up.. Better work towards a Common Market in Asean.. Bcos we face China India, even Inesia whose aspirations are gigantic compared..
Sg has its hands tied with rdgs to this project bcos rejwcting it wld seem unfriendly and selfish, esp if put in a difficult position like "The Agong wldnlike to see this project succeed..." That surely Sg wld not turn down the previous Johor sultan whom Sg has an excellent relationship with. While the Johor Sultan/current Agong is indeed an entrepreneur and fwd thinking person, he cant possibly oversee everything. Msia does not need to bother with the long term success of the joint venture. All it needs is to frustrate foreign investors after a few years and like what China did wif foreign companies who left China, take over the free technological knowhow left behind by departing companies. The investment climate may be good now but you may like to know that behind d scene a lot of people are trying to bring Anwar's administration down bcos amongst many reasons, one is that their gravy train has run dry and they are too used to the easy money of the past. Even the Agong knows this and he tries his best to throw his support behind Anwar by having frequent meals and meetings wif him. In other words Anwar is untouchable where the Agong is concerned.

Perpetual political infighting, corruption, nepotism, the lazy bumis who are bred to sit on their bums since birth simply do not have the drive in them. If Johor's demographics is that of Penang, then we can talk. Chinese makes the world move = fact.
its true actually, I believe its going to fail like cyberjaya, the reason is racial-based equity from NEP still active today; non-native bumi must sell 30% equity to bumi if they want to enter Bursa. They don't want to sell coz it might affect their dividen income + company go into bursa coz they wanna expand. Because of this policy, many non-native company that have a very competitive and bright future remained SME, making our country stagnant & falling behind compared to our neighboring country
