Love when Arnett got so pissed off with Sean Hayes when he took the discussion into something completely different when Arnett and Bateman were so invested in the art of directing discussion.
Hader's become a world-class writer/director at this point. What he's doing with Season 4 of "Barry" is just incredible and I'm truly looking forward to whatever his inevitable first film turns out to be, as I have a feeling it's going to be pretty stunning.
What are your other favorites ? The Conan episode is probably my absolute favorite but I really enjoyed this one, and I wanna listen to other funny ones - if there’s any chance there’s any episodes I haven’t heard yet! I don’t mind re-listening to a great, funny episode too anyway!
Bill Hader just did a "general" Bill Hader impersonation (57:33) immediately followed by a Fred-Armisen Bill Hader impersonation (57:41)...each distinctly. A generational talent indeed.
Indeed. It is really refreshing to find out that some people actually think of others and promote other people in an overwhelmingly selfish society. Bravo, Megan!
@@hamburgerturtle2613 Yeah, that is gold. One of those impressions where probably no one on earth can really do it but it's hilarious hearing someone try.
I'm not expecting to hear it touched on here, but if anyone knows of an interview with Bill where he talks about working with Ari Aster in Beau Is Afraid I'd really appreciate the link. A very brief part though crucial to the story. You barely even see his face, just the back of him for a couple seconds during a news broadcast, and during the phone call between Joaquin Phoenix and Bill's delivery guy character it's as if they alter his voice a bit, hard to recognize as Bill Hader, but that phone exchange scene is so brilliant and such a unique turn how its written and directed . . . . Not like anything I've seen in awhile. Absolutely incredible!
Thanks guys. I purposely have been putting off listening since last summer as I listen when I go summer hiking. Now the first sunny day I find one of my favorite actors and comedians on the first episode I find.
Before I understood who the hosts of this podcast are-- I'm all excited like "ooooh Bill Hader is so brilliant and talented such an epic great performer" And then I'm like, oh DAYUMN!! This podcast has Jason Sean and Will? How did I not know this was a thing? All of you are great! I am so glad you all have work and I hope you all keep working for as much as possible (while still living good lives with loved ones) because you are all so talented! ❤❤❤
Dudes ! I binged watched “ Barry “ and I swear I can’t control it - but I start talking like bill hader- I’m a world full of muppets and parroting people comes too naturally - so I’m super excited for this - episode - due to two of my favorite real life muppets - will and bill and Jason and Sean - 😅 Much gratitude for the laughter ya all brii ok g to this life - Big love C
Hello!! This episode was LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY!! Bill Hader was a Writer for South Park with Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Also, Bill Hader was fun on Finding Your Roots with Dr. Louis Gates (when Bill learned Carol Burnett was a DNA Cousin). 🙂😊😉🤩💕
Hot Rod is the funniest shit! I also just recently showed this to my family, my daughter loved it, but my wife and son just wondered what the hell we watched - ha ha ha - I still love it
dear god I need NEED Will Arnett to do a ring tone for me saying just that ! R U READY-------------- LOLOLOL or anything really !!! Loved this episode, I adore you guys and adore BILL so what could be better!! CHEERS !
I always listen to podcasts on long distance runs and today while listening to this one I had to pull to the side repeatedly because I was laughing so hard until finally I had to just stop listening to this episode because it was ruining my lap times.
So my mom lives across the street from me and I've been so ill. I've been staying at her place. Watched the whole show on Max at once absolutely loved it and wished you had more Parts with the "boring" guests because I loved them all. Any way walking home this morning my little princess walk of shame from my mom's. all my neighbors giving me dirty looks I say without smiling "Yeah I stay at my mom's when I'm sick sashimi"
It’s 1:35am, just finished listening to the Jack Black episode - went to look for another one and bingo a brand new ep with Bill Hader. You’re all doing the lord’s work 🥲
Here's a strange thing: Two of my all-time favorite comedians are Bill Hader and Kristin Wiig. I've heard many 'life story' resume kinds of podcast interviews and: Kristen Wiig NEVER mentions 'Dr.Pat' on the Joe Shmoe show and Hader NEVER mentions being in spisodes of 'Punk'd'. Are these omissions because of some 'non-disclosure' legal something-somethings?
I would love it if Will did Weekend Update on SNL one weekend. I just have a feeling he would bring some Norm vibes and would be an absolute genius with his voice.
I would love to see an MRI, or any brain scan of Bill as you ask him to recreate an voice we all know. It's such a weird skill, and I'd like to see which part of his grey matter it comes out of.
So fMRI (functional MRI) will show where the blood flows in the brain. DTI (diffusion tensor imaging) MRI will show the white matter connections b/t regions of the brain. 🧠 Both could be interesting to see.
This skill is also why I think he's such an incredible writer and director. It requires not only the ability to perform those impressions, but next level observation of character and behaviour and body language. He notices and appreciates people.
On the appropriation topic, I remember back when I was a teenager in the 70's that Dinah Shore had a talk show. (Yeah, I know. I'm old.) She would invariably take on the accent of anyone who had one. Especially if it were a southern accent. It was like she had one naturally and lapsed into it whenever she was exposed to it.
Good grief - again on a travel day and was screaming like I was on fire. I am surprised the trucks passing by me didn’t call the police 👮 Sean you are such a sport and I just LOVE your questions. All of you complement each other with your comedy! Hysterically funny as always and I am like a crack whore waiting for my next fix. I’m a 64 year old church lady so if I’m comparing myself to a lady of the night (imagine my southern draw saying all this) then you know I’m serious about LOVING this podcast. I wish I could share this with everyone I know including my adult kids but with the potty mouths on you three they will find my taste questionable. My rebel rousing youngest adult child is the only one who I have been able to share this podcast. There is an entire demographic that needs this hysteria in their life to lift their spirits believe me. Well, for now I am enjoying all of you and your special guests!!! Keep it up guys - there is huge talent oozing from each of you!😅
Also, reverse splits on a day can mean starting a day late because you need daylight AND night stuff in the same workday. Then because of disorganization, you end up shooting night stuff and running out of dark and "gaining light".
Speaking of Henry Winkler, does anybody else remember a '70s movie called Heroes, starring Henry, Sally Field and Harrison Ford? Was that real or did I imagine it? Pretty sure that was the first time I heard Carry On Wayward Son. Man, I'm old.
Love the theme song. It sounds like an ARP 6000 or 2600 maybe? Nice some funny shit. You guys sound like you know each other. I loved Ozark Jason. It's up there with the best drama series ever. Awesome cast. Bill Haider is one of the funniest and best imitators. If you can do an Alan Alda impression like Bill, your the shit.
"Barry" is the first successful main-stream "arthouse" series ever. The only equivalent is "Horace and Pete" without the #MeToo problems. It's like Cohen Brothers meets John Wick.
I'm obsessed with everything Bill Hader is attached to. He's my hero in every capacity
me too omg
👍
He's very inspiring.
"Were you being executed?" Is the funniest line I have heard in YEARS. 😂😂
Bill Hader genuinely seems like the Nicest, sweetest, most Humble guy ever!! 😂❤
But he is an instigator of mayhem, as well.
Love when Arnett got so pissed off with Sean Hayes when he took the discussion into something completely different when Arnett and Bateman were so invested in the art of directing discussion.

It better have a character named Ike, and some pie.
@@alejandroaguilar4693Ya shit bird!
I love Bill's laugh, SO MUCH.
Will: director talk
Jason: director talk
Bill: director talk
Sean: Squirrel!
That's why Sean was nominated for Podcast Host of The Year! 😂❤
Big call, but this is possibly the best episode of Smartless... I haven't laughed so hard in forever!

I know they don't do part twos, but Bill deserves one because we never found out how high he can jump 😂
Definitely need a part 2 just because 😏 Terrific guest!
☠️👀👀😂
Yeah and we never dived fully into his many animated voice over/TV Show/Movie roles
And what's the most he's ever spent in a trip to Trader Joe's?? 🤔🤣
I need to know the end of the story
These three work brilliantly together because they have such tremendous chemistry. This is just so awesome and cool.
Bill Hader just did a "general" Bill Hader impersonation (57:33) immediately followed by a Fred-Armisen Bill Hader impersonation (57:41)...each distinctly.
A generational talent indeed.
crying laughing, the chemistry with you all is amazing.
Weird that Bill is from Tulsa. I am too and he’s the most California sounding guy ever. Great episode.
That Peter Falk/tauntaun bit is unbelievably funny
Never would have guessed that we can thank Megan for Bill Hader! I didn't think I could love her anymore!
Indeed. It is really refreshing to find out that some people actually think of others and promote other people in an overwhelmingly selfish society. Bravo, Megan!
please have Bill Hader back on! This is the funniest episode ever! Seans interrupted question about Trader Joes had me rolling!!!
Love me some Bill Hader. He seems like great guy. Super witty and always seems to bring the great one liners.
This show is so perfectly balanced. I love Will Arnett.
Bill’s laugh is unbearably infectious 😂
Yesssss!!! 😂😂😂❤
❤ Bill Hader! I've really been waiting for a Henry Winkler episode too! I think that would be a delightful episode. 😊
Yes
Yes. 🎉
I love how off the rails this interview went so fast. "Bill, what is your current temperature?"
I've listened to this twice and still can't stop laughing!
I have been waiting for Bill Hader to show up on Smartless!!!!! And this episode did not disappoint!!! Love you all!!!
Finally! The one we've been waiting for...Bill Hader! I am Barry-obsessed.
46:56 He literally became Martin Short.
Sean is hilarious I mean the way he goes make a wish question off topic kills me everytime
Bill Hader doing Bob Odenkirk is maybe the funniest thing I've ever heard.
Time?
