Hi Marc. It's a beautiful watch. The tail as you call it, I saw, is referred to as the tongue, and in Japanese culture if the tongue was to point to the wearer it would be considered rude, so it has to point away, hence being on upside down as it were. We might have Teddy Baldassarre to thank for that information. I was only interested having just bought the Alpinist which is made in Japan and the same. I love that kind of frosted vanilla look on the dial. Truly stunning. Thank you.
I read that it's so others don't see the tongue when you are raising a glass for a toast. These are for cocktail time of course! But also, since it's on a folding deployant, it's so it operates the same as on a metal bracelet. If you put it on the reverse way it would feel... odd trying to put it on. Yes I have tried it both ways.
@@CP-fm7zy I'm fairly sure that it was Teddy who explained it, I may be wrong but it's said to be across all JDM models of Seikos sporting leather straps. I was going to change the strap to the "correct" way on my Alpinist but find that it's more comfortable and user friendly the Japanese way, such that all of my watches with deployant straps I'm contemplating changing. There will be other apocryphal explanations out there I'm sure, but you wouldn't want to insult anyone when raising a toast so you are absolutely correct! 👍
@@UNSCPILOT watched dozens of vids, then bought it in end. Ive had it for few months now and rarely leaves my wrist. I love the way the dial changes character throughout the day. For me, seeing it glimmer at golden hour light is breathtaking. For practicality, had to put a black rubber strap with gold buckle to make it a daily driver. There is something oddly charming about it, that ive not felt with any watch costing many multiples. I actually feel joy when i glance at it. This purely subjective, as no one i know seem to like the look of it. But, for me, thats usually a good sign!
For under 400$ im picking this Seiko up all day everyday. The dial is so unique that you wont see something similar in this price range. The pricing is also suprisingly fair. Seeing Marc sold it out in a few mins,im lucky over here in EU as i have one in the basket right now.
Seiko makes truly beautiful watches, works of art. Visually worth wayyyy more than the asking price. A swiss company would easily add a zero or two behind the asking price 😀
Beautiful watch this! I absolutely love the Seiko cocktail times! I don't wear dress watches often, but when I do, my Blue Moon cocktail time is the one I go for. Absolutely stunning
@@delagarzapaola cool i gave up looking for it lol just pre order the new Seiko presage SSA455 Cocktail Time Star Bar limited edition Champagne comes out on the 31 of this month in the USA its out in different countries 5000 total it's similar to this one but open heart even better 😀 ☝🏽🤙🏽
Thank you for making a video on this! Noone has covered it and really wanted to see the dial on video. Its a beautiful watch, a steal for the presage line imo.
Don't worry, 5100 isn't really limited and you'll be able to get these for MSRP for years. The old Star Bar SSA409J1 (and SSA781J1) from 2020 had similar numbers and was available in stores for nearly two years.
Love the watch but had passed it by because of the case diameter being a bit large on my small wrist (39mm is about the max I can wear and look aesthetically balanced on the wrist). I really love the dial on this one, could imagine a stainless steel case with a white of silver dial with this pattern. Currently I'm wearing the Seiko Presage Cocktail Time "Old Clock" (some call it a "Blue Manhattan") SARY 165. Navy Blue dial is one of the most beautiful dials I've seen, even better in person than in the promotional photos. I find myself looking at that gorgeous blue dial many times a day. Seiko does make dials that are far above what you'd find on watches of this price range.
Love their cocktail editions. I live in Tokyo and i have visited the Star Bar in Tokyo and the one in Kyoto! It is amazing how the watches made to represent their cocktails are just spot on with the drinks. My wife and I bought the Green Matcha and the Burnt Tea(Hou) presage watches to commemorate our visit to Kyoto since for the cocktail of these they use kyoto matcha liquor.
Do you think they’ll ever do a 36mm range? Considering these are aimed at the Japanese market you’d think they wouldn’t be “western” 40mm size diameters.
No rain and snow here in northern California for the past 3 weeks and it's forecasted to be the same the next 10 days. Checked the watch but got me interest on the SRPB77 instead.
Awesome version of the Cocktail Time. I own the one you have on wrist but without the PR. The blue leather on that is a joke right? What were they thinking?
Sold out in one day. Damn, I gotta start procrastinating more on the job so I can keep up with my RUclips subscriptions instead of doing work. Hopefully there'll be more of them soon...
The box and dial finish closely resembles hand made papyrus paper that contains tiny fragments of the wood chip that it’s made from, with a light champagne coloured dial that might be in a cocktail 👍
God damn it, Marc. I wasn't buying any watches this year, and suddenly I've got an email with an estimated shipping arrival of Friday. You owe me, Marc!
Hi Marc, could you get more of these in stock? I’m getting my bonus Wednesday, and wouldn’t mind picking this one up along with the Hamilton interatellar watch
Nice Limited Seiko Mark. That dial is amazing for sure👌💯I love the 2 on your wrist today❤🥰 We only got a dusting I'm Baltimore and Ocean City got slammed with a foot of it❄️Still lots of winter to go sure will get some👊👍
Beware the Cocktail Times with the date in the 6 o'clock position. It's a major design flaw. I have the brown dial. The tiny, teeny gold numbers against the brown dial make it unreadable, even in good light and moving it around to catch a reflection or something. I'm surprised Seiko would let something like that out the door. Also, for the price they could put on a sapphire crystal. The hardlex or whatever it's called is low end.
I know Seiko get a lot of flack for releasing too many special editions these days but it is cool when they have something a bit different, and people can feel they own something that is a little bit special.
