Glad you found me and these canvas tutorial series I created just to offer support for fellow educators and those using the platform for online teaching and content. The series is a full playlist on my channel. Hope it helps and offers support as you continue your journey with online teaching.
thank you for the feedback! I'm always working on getting better at these tutorials and learning as I go as well. Always about the progress these days!
Great video, thanks. I would like to see how you grade some of these quizzes (what it looks like on the teacher end), in particular how do you grade a quiz that has an essay along with multiple choice? Does the program wait for you to assign a grade to the essay before calculating a final score? Also, how would you grade a quiz with some multiple choice questions along with an essay/calculation that they write on their own paper and upload.
Great suggestion! I'll add it to my list of videos to create in the future. Yes, the system waits for you to go in and grade the parts you need to do by hand before it assigns the grades to the students. The best way to try this out is to do a simple 5 question practice quiz that doesn't count against their final grade. That way they get practice taking different types of question formats and you get practice of creating and grading them through the process in real time. The students really like being able to try these out before jumping into one that's graded. Win win!
Cheers and thanks for these generous tutorials. One question: Different dates to take the test can be given to different students, but can different lengths of time to complete the test be given to different students?
You're so welcome! Yes, you can do both of these. I often need to give extra time to specific students and you can do that by doing a moderation. I don't think I have a tutorial on that just yet so I'll add it to my video list. Go into the quiz and on the top right corner it will say moderate quiz. click on that and you adjust the time for certain students. Does this help? Let me know!
Thanks for replying and directing me to "Moderate This Quiz". I puttered around with it and figured out the time lengths. I had thought that button had something to do with being an active moderator during the quiz. If up to me, it would have a different label. Much appreciation!
Glad I'm able to help! 💜 In my experience no the #1 question does not need to be the students name bc Canvas will love the quiz in gradebook for their account automatically. No need to have them answer them name in a question.
Hey Ashlee. Love your name, but especially your last name ; ) Is there a way to get Canvas to stop sending notifications every time I make a minor change on canvas? For example, I've gone into a course to figure something out.... and as I'm doing so, its sending out tons of notifications for every week I make, even if in the end I decide not to keep them! Thanks!
Hi Alejandro. Excellent last name indeed 😉 You should be able to adjust your notifications in your settings tab. I did a video on this under the Canvas tutorials playlist series. Now, canvas does send out the notifications to students when you make changes or updates if you've already published your entire course for the students to view. At the bottom of every page/assignment/etc while in the edit mode, before you click save, you can tic on or off the box that says something like "notify students that this page has changed" and you can un tic that box. Hope this helps a little.
Yes! I use my mic during all of my video conferencing and 1:1 sessions. I use if for everything actually now working in a virtual setting with no problems. Yes, headphones can be used and mic at the same time in my experience using Zoom. Just make sure you choose the correct in and out put when you log onto your video conference platform. If you use zoom I did a tutorial about how to that here ruclips.net/video/gl38oNPHQ5Q/видео.html
Hi! I have been following your videos and I am really stuck as to how to us the 'fill in multiple blanks' option. Your casual reference to it did not help. I have a paragraph with multiple blanks to fill. How do I put it in Canvas?
Hi there! The multiple blanks to fill in is one that's a little confusing to set up especially in the classic quizzes options. I'll try to make about this in the future. There are directions that are a little helpful in the updates but let me see if I can work on a video for that in the future.
☕Happy teaching everyone! Hang in there. We are all in this together. One day at a time.
more coffee please ;)
I am so glad that I found this. I have been teaching online for several years but I need to update my skills.

Thank you so much Ms. Ashlee, your videos are really helpful for us here in the Philippines 😊, thank you so much
Happy to help!
Thank you very much 🙏

Your videos are saving me this year! Does question #1 have to be student's name like Classroom?

I'd like to use a visual with a question in the quiz. Can I do this?
can you teach us how to set our quiz in matching type, find it confusing to make in the matching type.

Is there a way for students to enter equations with fractions, square roots and/or exponents?
Are you able to use your microphone during video conferencing? Does your headphones work concurrently with the Mic?
Enjoy your videos!

Absolutely! So glad it was helpful. I sure appreciate you.
Hi I teach adult school do you have any recommendations for teaching older adults
Hi there. What type of recommendations would be helpful for you?

How to create a Question bank from different Quizzes you have created?
