After touring Igbo - Ora and speaking to parents of twins and some of the twins themselves as seen in our last two videos, Odunayo shows us how to prepare Ilasa and what ingredients are used to cook it, with the help of mama - our chef for the day.
"Once you cook and eat Ilasa, you will have twins," says one woman
According to our research, the indegenes have claimed that the multiple births could be related to the eating habits of the women and men in Igbo - Ora which is their local delicacy Ilasa (okro leaves) soup with Amala (yam flour) or Eba.
"We'll use pepper, melon, potassium, locust beans etc to cook Ilasa," says mama
Igbo Ora in Oyo state is a town where there are unusually large number of twin births in Nigeria, which have earned the town the nickname Twin Capital of the World.

but why people want twins, may I ask? Yes it's lovely to have two in one go, and if it happens it's really a cute thing. But a pregnancy with twins is harder. Bigger belly, more energy requirements from the mother, and having two in there puts them both at a slightly higher risk. Single babies are born at 40 weeks of pregnancy, but twin pregnancies at 35-36 weeks.

It is God who give children both twins and singles,it is not because of what you eat. Anyone who is born on earth is already destined with certain abilities to achieve what they have been created by God to achieve in life, but people don't understand that everything happening is God's program but instead of them to give glory to the God of heaven who is the creator of every living and non living things and the giver of children, they equate it to what they are eating,I am sure it's not every family in that community has twins, and if eating those food can give twins, why is it then that everyone there and around their community doesn't have twins? And if it is true then it means that it is food now that is giving children and not God anymore. Before you were born,God has giving you certain abilities of what you can do and what you cannot do and you can't cross that boundary, if you are not created and destined by God to give birth to twins,no matter what you eat or do you won't give birth to twins and if you force it,it may result to death or in a serious damage because the hand of God is not there and he didn't mould you for that purpose. I just wish people will understand these simple principles which will help them live a simple life without stress. You are created with certain abilities to achieve certain things, not all things because no human being can achieve everything in this life.

The mamma was right. The leaves have microbes that strengthen the immune system. Super clean is very bad for the immune system. That's why food allergies are on the rise in the West. I wonder how the mamma knew it.

Please, what is the importance of the potash, that is, the first thing she added. I feel it's not healthy, especially in that quantity. Simply, can I cook without the potash? Thanks for responding. Can I also add vegetables to it, like Ugwu or Oziza or even bitter leaf, that is when cooking it my igbo style, and not really with stew.
    Thanks again for responding.
