its 2023, I was just gifted this exact car from my step mom who was the only owner. It was seldom used over the years and has only 64,000 miles on it. What a gem!

Bought mine new in 2006. 6 speed sel model. A few tyranny issues. Nothing major. 1 minor electrical issue. Bigger trunk than a Crown Vic. 185,000 miles. With snow tires nothing stops it. I describe it as a salesmans car. Solid and dependable. For 2250$ its a good buy.
I would buy it if I did already have two. an awesome safe car. it does lack in the entertainment area But its one of the best cross country driver out there. My wife got into a head on collision at 45 mph and walk away without a scratch with the first one we had.
Ford didn't actually discontinue this D3 platform (shared with the Mercury Montego, Ford Freestyle, Volvo S80/V70.) They updated the styling outside, replaced the 3.0 litre "Duratech" V6 with a CVT in favor of a 3.5 liter V6 with A GM/Ford 6-speed automatic and changed the name in 2008 to "Taurus" when the last mid-size one was killed off on October 27, 2006 (this is a full-size sedan). This car was redesigned in 2010 on the D4 platform, updated in 2013, and killed off without a replacement (or much fanfare) on March 1, 2019, So there! 🐰
@FredPena-rd5cf Yes, if you were smart enough to keep them FWD and not order AWD, you got that 6-speed automatic. That poor, weak 3.0 litre Duratech V6 couldn't handle the extra weight.
The car itself is great, the only issue is the rear quarter panels will rot if you live in the midwest where they salt the roads. 99% of the 500's out there will be rusted through. Other than that, definitely a solid car.
I have the 2007 SEL with a few more options. I am the original owner and have a job as a courier now where I drive almost 1K miles a week. It has 151K on the clock now and is a great car. Only major repairs so far are a right rear brake caliper and the ac compressor switch. If you can find one for this price you shouldn’t hesitate to buy if it is an SEL model. The others have the CVT transmissions. Mine gets an easy 28 to 32 miles per gallon on hwy at 60 to 65 MPH.
Replaced the alternator 4 times in three months... fried two batteries. The alternators have an internal regulator that is feeding 18 volts back to the car and frying everything. No one knows what to do to correct. Looked up this problem and it is common in the vehicle. Do not recommend buying.
I have to Mercury Montego. Same thing. It’s great. Has 130k, rides and drives great. I’ll definitely be getting another 150k out of it I take care of her. She fits all the cargo I need and I’m a working man I have a lot of tools. I can beat her up a lil like you would a crown Vic but it still gives me a great ride. Best $3000 I’ve ever spent and I’m serious, can’t beat that kinda deal. I don’t know why these cars are sitting but hey I’m glad they are.
Bought one recently for 2800, with 86k miles. The engine sounds healthy thus far and runs smooth and man I forget what it’s like to drive a 6 cylinder car, picks up speed faster than my 04 mustang ever did.
My first Ford500 was a 06, fwd.. got it at 119k miles.. lasted to 290k miles.. only major problem I ever had was the alternator. Got a second ford500, awd, tracking control loaded, paid 4 thousand for it, only downfall to this one tranny went 3mos after I got it but tbh if u can't afford to fix ur car then maybe u shouldn't be driving n FYI I'll buy a 3rd one in a heartbeat if I have to... Legit love the Ford 500, it's a beast
I just bought one with 201k for $2500. More than I like to pay, but my explorer turned into an exploder today leaving me stranded. It runs smooth for the mileage. The used car market is a joke now.
The reason why they stop making the 500 they went to the Taurus , another reason is the CVT transmission that's they use on the model were Garbage . Now if you have the V6 inline engine . Your 500 probably still running like a champ. The CVT were horrible.
None of them had an “inline” engine. They all had a 3.0 L DuraTec v6. I own one with the aisin 6 speed transmission and it’s been a great car. They should put aisin transmissions in everything because it’s the most rock solid tranny I’ve ever seen in my life.
Buy the car if you can buy the car. Great cars. I survived a wreck that in a different car would have killed me. Totalled it but I'm okay the sucker still runs and drives after 3 rolls.
I had one 2005 SEL same color and I loved it. I always remember the day I brought the car back in 2010 and kept it for 4 years until I traded it for a 2014 corolla S
The Taurus has been killed off and there was a new Ford boss. Well, that boss didn’t last long and another boss stepped in who like the Taurus name and told the designers to come up with a new.
I never understood why they stopped making the 500 myself. Thought it was nice looking vehicle, but sales must have been too low to support making anymore. Have a great day Chad. Say hi to the family.
