Everything is on point in this video, well done! The Audi MOC looks great! I also have to notice that sometimes 6 studs are not enough for advanced detalization, so I build 7 studs wide cars.
Tip: look at “how to draw cars” books or online tutorials. It’ll help with spacing between front and back wheels, 2 or 3 box designs and offer some inspiration for rear, front and side detail work. 👌
These tips are good tips but also things like proportions and shaping is some of the most important factors of a car. For that car to look like that car. And using more complex and different pieces can offer more detail and shaping. Adding onto this using different tires besides the city wheels for sport cars like the speed champion ones would offer a more low profile and sleek look to the model. Also using different fenders to give a car a more modern or classic look can add a lot.
I'll always prefer 6 studs wide, 8 studs are simply too big in my opinion, you can put a lot of detail yes, but the cars will be simply too big for minifigs I think, 6 studs is the best balance between scale and detail
Personally disagree on the 4 wide and preformed chassis comments, I've made some of my favorite car mocs by constricting myself to those chassis and small size, it forced me to think of other elements more creatively. The preformed chassis also allow minifigs to sit lower than what is possible with plates so that full figs can fit in without the car scraping the ground.
I will never build a car that cannot fit a whole minifigure. That is a personal limitation that I have set on myself because I am a weirdo that is more concerned with building a functional world then with details alone. Everything else in this video is really solid advice. If I may add another point, not really a technique but more so a mindset, but when looking for inspiration for building a Lego car, only rarely look at other people's cars. When looking for inspiration, look at totally unrelated builds like modern space ships or natural builds like animals or large human figures as those builds tend to have a larger focus on interesting curves and connections, then apply that knowledge to your car builds. I actually got inspired to finish a build of a Ferrari Dino 206 GT by looking at somebody's build of a pufferfish. Inspiration for individual techniques rarely come from pouring over people's interpretations of similar builds.
I have decided to take the plunge and try my hand at city building, thanks for the inspiration and information. I enjoy your channel immensely. I've just begun my city building journey, and I am struggling to justify 6-wide at the moment. The scale looks odd in context of what few roads and buildings I have. 4-wide allows me to add density of units and flow of movement at eye level without drowning out detail of surrounding scenes. I must admit, the "minimalist-cutesy" aesthetic that 4-wide lends itself to has grown on me. The lower brick count of my 4-wides is also helpful as I slowly accumulate more into my collection. At least those are my justifications.
1:25 Actually on the bottom, they have these little holes that you can stick axle pins through so they’re not stuck in there and so it’s easier to get off😊😊😊
i make speed champions sized cars (8 wide) and you can fit way more detail so i recommend sometime you try making 8 stud wide cars, also the base plate for 8 stud wide speed champions is actually good
I remember "Escape From Privet Drive" came with a six-wide car. My solution to make two people fit was to have all of their arms forward... not sure why it worked, but it did!
Unpopular opinion here, but I somehow like 5 studs wide lego car models. That means that the 2x2 plates modified, which are responsible to connect the wheels, are attached using two jumper plates each and I like to use inverted brackets in the center to add more details to the sides/to the doors. It is always a fun challenge, the models are nice to display and I do not care about minifigure compatibility. Still a great video if I consider building something suiting to a City/to minifigures.
Sometimes it is easier to put 2 minifigs together if you lean one of them slightly forwards and the other backwards. Great vehicles - I will copy TD's building technique!
I prefer 6× cars for my city, jumpers and plates make it easy enough to fit 2 ppl per car. Just finished an awesome supercar/cyberpunk stule car. No problem fitting 2 figs inside
I kinda used the trick of modifying cars before watching this video I lowered the suspension of a monster truck Made a pickup look more buff And turned a police car into a street racer car or smt
I need to build four stud wide cars because I made a four stud wide Lego train , but it's not that bad you can still put a decent amount of detail on four stud wide cars
Because you said that the cars have to be 6 studs wide. That means that when you build trucks and buses for your city. They have to be (Like the train) 8 studs wide as well. AND THE ROADS HAVE TO BE BIGGER! >:D
I don't like open stoods on anything i build, i always cover stoods with tiles, but when I can place tiles and it's better not to place them, I don't place them (yeah I know that sounds weird)
Yeah, six stud width cars are the right way. I always design all my vehicles in six stud width, except truck and bus. Welcome to check out mine on my channel.
Very well, but: I have a sentiment to old 4 studs wide cars When cars are on a road they don't take up that much space, so you should still make the roads bigger Most of your cars are unplayable for children because you kill the minifigures in order to put them on your moc. You're like a darker version of Lord Business. But it's your moc and I would never be able to be better at building than you. And lastly. If you can't get that piece out of there, why did you put it in?
This my reason why i use lego design by cars firstly i cannot have the pieces to build the chasy and second its more easy to build on the lego car chasis making it more easy and rhe mocs more cooler design
every Lego town and city is different and every Lego collection is difference as well. sometimes you simply cant afford to build one 6 stud wide car and sometimes you might want to make as many cars as possible with as few pieces as possible. in the end its up to each builder to decide what works for your own Town/city.
Love this video! That road with the incline for the cars to go down is so sick!
Yooo thanks man!
Hello TD
Hi TD
Hey TD when’s this year’s MOC contest. I made a MOC last year for it but couldn’t submit it in time so I’ve been rly excited abt this year!!
Yo spicyyyyy
Could you hide the wrong car in the City?
Yea pls?
done :D
So lets see if we can find it 🤣👍
@@Brick_Crafts how much did the whole city cost?
@@AngelHernandez-xy8pd lots

It looks like its a chinese knockoff

Im a master at drawing 3D cars😏✏️
Very entertaining video! Cars seem pretty hard even at their generally small scale. The proportions were always tricky for me to get right.

Nah I like 8 stud
8 stud allows not sports or van cars
8 studs would be good for a hummer
3:03 I love that car design!

Ahh cool! But still, until someone put some plate like 2x2 with no purpose, it will be over.
The pieces created by lego are actually quite fun to be honest
as a creator who makes LEGO cars, I made these mistakes sooooo much, so thanks for touching base on it!
Yay finally! I was waiting for this video for so long.

Thx, for the Tipps and Tricks 👍
This helps Most of the Car builders.
All very useful tips 👍🏽
I used once the minifigure head as a passenger in the backseat
i make speed champions sized cars (8 wide) and you can fit way more detail so i recommend sometime you try making 8 stud wide cars, also the base plate for 8 stud wide speed champions is actually good
Yeah
I remember "Escape From Privet Drive" came with a six-wide car. My solution to make two people fit was to have all of their arms forward... not sure why it worked, but it did!
The video was very nice, Your video style reminded me a litle bit of Tiago Cataroni
How to build lego car:
Step 1: frame
Step 2: add wheels
Step 3: profit
I created my own SUV by some of these techniques, pretty good
Great video, great tips.
Though, the thumbnail did make believe I was going to watch a video from TD Bricks.
All those poor traumatized figures, seeing a driving head
and of course g-wagen crashes first, blockin road to others, resulting in mass crash. thats just tradition of this beautyful kind of workshops cx
Die G-Klasse ist richtig top gemacht! Weiter so 👍

A car has mental breakdown in lego city. Start with new rescue tow truck. Hey!!
He shows the bad car. My thinking "That looks better than my cars".
lego city was a peaceful place, until its citizens discovered they couldnt steer their cars while driving down a hill at high speed...
Fun fact I did not know that you had a second channel lmao
everything looks so slick nice job
Brilliant VIdeo. Some excellent advice. Cheers

Excellent video!
That Blue Audi looks really nice and looks like something LEGO would do as a Speed Champions set 👍!
How can I get the kit to build those cars???

A man has been vaporized in Lego city
Yeah, six stud width cars are the right way. I always design all my vehicles in six stud width, except truck and bus. Welcome to check out mine on my channel.
Why do these Lego cars look cooler than the actual cars they were based off of?
I like lego so much
Very well, but:
I have a sentiment to old 4 studs wide cars

Thank you😁👍👍👍
2:47 jangbricks ahh car💀
Lol, funny! Great cars also 👌🏾

For me the best proportion are 4 wide for cars an 6 wide for trucks
it helped me thx
Can you give instructions on how to build your cars?
