  • Singapore is one of the great development success stories of our times, having risen from poverty to prosperity in just a couple of generations. It achieved such progress by embracing high levels of economic freedom. But its political system is authoritarian and it limits civil liberties. How sustainable is the so-called Singapore model? Today, it is coming under scrutiny in Singapore itself, with defenders of the status quo on one side and advocates of progressive social democracy on the other. In his new book, Liberalism Unveiled: Forging a New Third Way in Singapore, coauthor Bryan Cheang advocates a classical liberal alternative that embraces freedom in all its dimensions. He is joined here by professor Razeen Sally of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore to discuss a policy agenda for Singapore and the prospects for classical liberal policies in Asia.

    Omg 🤦
Look at the west look at even neighboring countries
Still want to question on singapore political system ?
Everyone in the world has been only proving singapore right
How dangerous freedoms and civil liberties are.
When freedom goes unaccountable in the west particularly the US it can only mean disaster.
For large countries if you want to be like that then that is your problem.
For a small vulnerable island city state who is 90 percent dependant on FDI and tourism we need political stability to give investors confidence about settling in singapore.
We don't want to become another HK.
Very poor understanding and paranoid thinking by the west.
It's so sunk deep on ideology 🤦.
    The singapore of africa
    The singapore model
Even the UK wants to be the singapore of europe
Yet people here are questioning our methods
Grass is always greener on the other side 🤦
